How'd you mount your Uniden R7? More specifically anyone have the tech package in the 2021 - and mount it?
Wondering if mirror mount would work.

I have the same question, I have the R3
When using the top 12v outlet since my truck is etorque, the radar stays on all the time. Is there a way to have this outlet turn off when the truck turns off?

Fuse F54 can be switched to off or on when the car is turned off. There is more info on the forum with pictures. It is also in the owner's manual page 128 of the 2019 edition.

I run an R3 with just the normal window mount. That 12v plug on top turns off eventually...or the R3 does it itself. I have accidentally left it plugged in on many an evening when I get home from work and I'm the morning it is turned off.

I just did a video on YouTube where I installed a dashcam and a radar detector in my 2021. Video is currently process but should be viewable in 10 minutes..

Both turn off when I shut the truck down.

I used a mirror mount, hardwire kit for both and tapped into a fuse (can't remember off top of my head). I installed this before Christmas for a cross country drive. Hope it helps... please disregard my older Tesla videos :) Both have been traded for the 2021 Rebel and a 2020 Alfa.

Yep...I have an R7 with the Tech Package. Used the Blendmount and bought a hardwire kit for $10 on Amazon and fuse tapped it right into the fuse panel. Install will take about 20-30 minutes tops. Happy to help if you want to PM me and share cell numbers. I have been installing electronics in cars and trucks for over 30 years.

You should think about installing it with a professional, factory installed look. No wires hanging down to plug in.

If interested, I can offer a few pieces of advice to clean up your install and have it be totally professional. You can easily pop off the black housing behind the mirror to completely hide the wire and only two bolts to remove the A-pillar.

Thank you. I may revisit but I did remove the dash cam for a few days while the tint was being done. That allowed me to push the wiring up in the headliner a little better.

Unfortunately not useful for how I use it, as I regularly move it from car to car.

Most folks install a mount and hardwire it. You can then easily detach and unplug it from the mount and move it around easily. Just an option since placing anything on your windshield that is suction cup based and having wires hanging down is never a good idea.

Hey SecurityGuy! Brand new to the forum but I would appreciate the any tips. I did buy a blend mount for my R7 and and the mirror tap. I think I'd prefer to go the hardwired option though. Anything that I should be on the lookout for? What fuse did you wire too? I watched the other youtube video from this thread and he hasn't specific to where it needs to go. Also, you mentioned pulluing the mirror housing... Get the willies just thinking about it but I'm willing to give it a go. I have never pulled wires through my vehicles but I am mechanically inclined. Where do I start?
Thanks in advance!

PM me my friend and we'll share cell numbers and jump on a call. Easier to talk through it that way. Happy to help...I've done this hundreds of times!

This forum was helpful in getting my set up done on my 2021 with the tech package.

I jumped into the mirror power for the radar detector and used the f66 fuse under the kick plate for the dash camera. Getting to the mirror is very easy and made the install look clean.

Not the R7 but similar install.

Not bad, but that suction cup mount for the Escort has got to go!

I know I know. I had a blendmount ordered but I wasn't sure I wanted the detector hanging so low in my vision. Still on the fence about getting one.

I have an R3 that I mounted up high on the windshield. I used a BlendMount in my last car, but I felt like in the Ram it would be just hanging out in space.

I tucked the cable under the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse panel.

The mount was about $10 off eBay and is just a piece of aluminum with some 3M VHB tape. Works perfectly for me.

It actually doesn't hang low unless you want it to. The mount is fully adjustable and you can have the top of the detector real close to the bottom of the mirror or lower. Mine is perfect and it certainly does not interfere with my field of view.
