Another Mystery Leak Post

I've had my 2019 RAM Laramie for all of 2 months. It has leaked since I got it. Headliner is stained and carpet in the rear stays wet when it rains.
Things I have done:

• Replaced seal on third brake light
• Replaced entire third brake light assembly x2
• Siliconed shark fin antenna

Still leaks. The area it leaks inside is to the left of the rear sliding window about 2 1/2" toward the passenger side shown in this photo.


Can anyone tell me what this is in the photo below? It seems to be raised up. Is that normal?



I do have a warranty, but I believe my deductible is $100, so I wanted to avoid that if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

If you’ve sealed the brake light and fin I’m thinking the entire rear window needs to be replaced because of a bad seal.

I’ve heard of both third brake light and shark fin leaking on some also the rear window in around the same spot the picture shows yours leaking but you don’t seem to have the crack that has been associated with it . You have more than 36,000 miles ?

It’s leaking through that spot you drew the arrow too. That’s suppose to be sealed.

Since you have addressed the third brake light and shark fin already, I would clean along the top of the rear window assembly, let it dry a few days, the apply "flowable" silicone along the top (between the glass and cab); also, concentrate on the area in your pictures. It's got to be either the spot you pointed out, or, an area between the slider assembly and opening lip.

Since you have addressed the third brake light and shark fin already, I would clean along the top of the rear window assembly, let it dry a few days, the apply "flowable" silicone along the top (between the glass and cab); also, concentrate on the area in your pictures. It's got to be either the spot you pointed out, or, an area between the slider assembly and opening lip.

I'm not sure if I trust myself enough to do that. I'd probably get it everywhere and it would look ghetto AF.

Did you silicone the area in the cargo light recess that you photographed? I would use a garden hose with a slow flow of water, and start on one side, moving slowly across between the glass and cab. It would help if the truck was leaning slightly to the right (park on a slight incline) then start from Right to Left. In doing it this way, you can control the flow of water running along the top and when it starts to drip inside, you will know exactly where the void is. In order to do a professional sealing job along the top of the window, you would need to use a small extension tip (small enough to get between the glass and cab opening. I've had to squeeze tips with pliers to "flatten" them in order to gain access in situations such as this), then move along slowly while the flowable silicone makes it way into all the crevices. It has to be flowabel silicone.

Yes I put silicone on the part from my photo and let it dry for 24 hrs then did a leak test and it leaked from the same spot. I may try what you suggested as far as the leak test you suggested since the quarantine is going on and there isn't much else to do.

Yes, definitely do the leak test as I explained earlier. Make sure the truck is leaning to the Right, and with the water running very slow, work your way to the Left along the top edge of the glass. It could be a hidden crack in the plastic frame, or it could be an area void of urethane sealer. Either way, it's not structural, and once sealed with silicone, it will be solid; way better than having the dealer replace the window and ending up damaging things in the process.

Then I tried around the sxm fin but it still leaks. I’m interested in trying the “flowable silicone” between the glass / truck until I can get to the dealer, whenever that’s possible.

I could be a crack in the rear glass frame. I know it's a pain and a worry about the removal and replacement and other things the dealer could damage along the way, but it should be a permanent fix and under warranty is costs you zero. The cost after warranty is very high and they could blame you if you try to fix it yourself.

Did you fill that hole that you posted completely with silicone? If so, another coat on top of what you’ve already done won’t hurt.
