Air conditioning performance

There are several threads on here regarding the AC not working like it should. Ram won’t do anything about it til enough people raise hell. I don’t know how you guys in S Texas are dealing with this on a brand new truck!

I'm really hoping that someone from Chrysler will comment on whether or not the BCM/HVAC module has a parameter which supplies an algorithm depending on which typical climate the vehicle is primarily used in such as the scenario I mentioned in my post regarding the VW Arteon with a facility in the BCM module for "hot country" or "cold country". The customer concerns seem VERY similar to what we are seeing regarding the RAM Pickups.

Hot day in TX and I just noticed the "winter behavior" for the first time in the heat. Truck was hot and just would not even blow what it's capable of in terms of cold air for 10-12 minutes and then it woke up and noticeably dropped in temp output. I was driving 55-60 the whole time so it was not an airflow difference or just took a while to cool off. It just all of a sudden started blowing noticeably colder air like it does on longer trips.

Didn't have any thermometers to document actual temps but this is exactly the same behavior I and others have noticed in the winter where it would blow cold air for ~10 min and then start warming up when on the Auto setting. I've not previously noticed this since colder winter weather but it seems to be doing the same thing. It's almost like there is a programmed delay timer on the interior temp sense so that you have to be driving for 10 minutes before it takes the interior temp and gets to work.
This, more than anything, seems like a programming error. It’s hot and annoying now, but it can actually make people sick in winter weather!

Just finished an 800 mile round trip, from Houston to MS and back, in 95 + degree weather. By and large the temp in the drivers side vent never got below 60 deg, but we were ok, as long as the seat fans were on.
Coming back however I noticed a strange trait. I have the AC set to auto, and 70 degrees. All of a sudden the vents start to blow warm air, and I have to turn the temp setting down to 65 to get it to blow cold again................. back up to 70............ok for a while.................warm air again......................rinse and repeat !
This truck is really starting to make me wonder about the AC function..................Ram had better hurry up and sort this out........I won't take too many summers of this nonesense

It just started getting really warm in northern Ohio... in the 90s, and the AC definitely struggles! The passenger side is noticeably cooler, too. I want it to be equal. If anything, I want my side cooler than the passenger side given that I am the only one in the truck 95% of the time!

I live in Texas and this week noticed that my new 2019 Rebel has a terribly inefficient AC system. Has anyone had any real luck with getting this fixed? I need to get something done here because it is crazy hot in the truck at the moment.

I have just managed to get something unrelated fixed by the dealer and learned that knowing exactly what the "actual fix" is helps a lot when booking it in. It also avoids multiple trips to the dealer.

Have you guys seen this thread about the charge label being wrong on the trucks? That easily leads to techs stating you have the correct amount when you actually don't.

Well I can confirm that my label is potentially wrong as well, and I have the same issues with poor A/C performance. Mine was built 12/18. 30396

November 5th 2018 build here and same wrong label.

Please if we can get something to reference for the dealer, that would be awesome.

I contacted RamCares about this, provided them my sticker and VIN. The response was: "Unfortunately we do not have the resources to look into this on our end, so a formal diagnosis by your dealer is required. However, we are more than happy to document this inquiry within your case so that your Case Specialist can address this with your dealer when the time comes. If you have any additional questions at this point, please do not hesitate to reach back out. "

I find it hard to believe we can't just get clarification on what the correct factory level/label should be. Right now, the only thing we have saying it is not supposed to be 510g is one dealer's service order referencing a STAR case. (I was also told a STAR case doesn't exist for an incorrect label.)

So one of two things is going on in my opinion.

1. The dealer misinterpreted/mistyped what they actually did, and it's totally unrelated to the people who are having problems. (Very possible. Especially since their documentation says 515 on wrong sticker/567 on correct sticker, instead of 510 like mine and the only 2 pictures I have seen show).

2. Such thing exists, RAM knows it and is trying to track down build dates/VINs to get an accurate TSB out. Not sure what the harm is in confirming whether my factory sticker is correct or incorrect.

My AC actually works well; I just have the weird squealing noise. I'm inclined to think option one is actually the truth. If anybody can find a label on their truck with a different fill amount than 510g (under hood, above passenger headlight) take a picture and provide it here, I think we can then look towards option 2 being the reality.

My build was 3/29, so we now have three stickers spanning dates 11/5 - 3/29 that all consistently state 510g.

There were a few posts that tech authority had the DT service manual available (without wiring diagrams). I have never used them, so for anyone that has, are the HVAC service details included where we can at least confirm if it states 510g or 515g there?

Or 567g.

Just saw this thread. Are some of you guys not following the AC Hack thread? All of us there who installed the valve or the lesser fix (IMHO) of a clamp are enjoying cold A/C. RAM is telling us 55F outlet is within spec so I don't believe we're going to see any further action on their part. It's BS we have to do this to a brand new truck but it's one of those things you do and then forget about and go about enjoying your truck. Just remember to take the valve out (2 minute job) before service work and open it fully in fall / winter.

Different issue.

Thanks @Tom488 . So the dealer description on the service post was wrong and our stickers were right. As I expected. (Unless there's an even bigger conspiracy, lol) Either way, this is why Im hesitant to take the squeal to the dealer since my AC is working well. The original poster said that the dealer's "fix" actually resulted in an inoperable ac condenser that is backordered.

that's because your truck is sensing it's hit the 70 in the cab and switches to just fan circulation without a/c. you asked for 70..you got 70 and then you're mad it turned off? It works the same way in a house...

So the dealer description on the service post was wrong and our stickers were right.
Yeah - I'm very skeptical of that work order... .0515 vs .0567? What's he measuring in? Deca-kilograms? 510g is .51Kg, not .051.

However, the difference between .515g and .567g is .125lbs, or the difference between 1.125lbs. and 1.25lbs. So, is a 2oz. undercharge (0.125lbs = 2 oz.), or 10%, enough to make such a difference? I'm not sure... but I doubt it.

Yay math! Exactly the question I posed in the other thread. I don't really know; I'm sure there is someone with enough AC expertise around who does though.
