Air conditioning performance

Mine was built February 19 and it does not apply still have very poor AC.
Mine was built on 9/23/18, just outside the TSB cutoff of 9/20/18. But my AC is nonetheless a poor performer. I sent Alex a private message and he responded that the TSB doesn’t apply but to let him know if I decide to go to the dealer. I’m not going to the dealer just yet because, even if they perform the TSB, I don’t think that will make a difference because the problem seems to be with the blend doors. I’ll wait to see if the FCA engineers can come up with a real fix. Right now, I’ve got a clamp on the out hose and it’s blowing about 44 degrees out of the driver’s side front vent. Not great, but acceptable. We’re coming up on 100 degree days here in Central Texas, and that will be real challenge for the poor performing Ram ACs.

Looks like you and I share the exact same experience. Mine was build in 2/19, way outside the TSB range.

And hows your AC? Mine was built 2/19 as well and its no good.

My dealer ordered some o ring that was leaking.

If this does indeed solve your AC issues, can you post the work order info for the diagnosis and the fix? We need to guide our dealers through this process. Too many dealers are responding that either this is normal, or that it requires a TSB, which after performed, does not seem to solve the issue.

So took one for the team and had 94 degree air blowing in my face. The thermometer was reading 86 degrees outside, as well, and the numbers were confirmed with a second analog thermometer. A/C is off, recirculate is off, temperature is turned all the way to low. Clearly there is hot are leaking into the system.

If the outside air is 86 doesn't it have to enter through the engine bay so would that explain the higher temp? We are really trying to figure this out for RAM and they are sitting back thinking "it meets our specs" no problem found. Don't get me wrong, I think the A/C is not great but I just don't see what this will do unless they are actively looking for a solution and we have seen nothing saying they are.

Yeah, I thought about that, and to mitigate it, I tried to take the picture as soon as I came to a stop. I was watching the analog while doing about 60mph on the highway, and it was clearly above 90 degrees, as well, but I couldn't see exactly what it was reading.

I'm not sure exactly where outside air enters. But we do know that cutting off the heat causes the temps to drop.

I guess maybe a better test would be with recirculate turned on... Anybody know where the return is?

Appreciate you doing it. This is all speculation but what if RAM knew this all along and determined it meet specs and was considered acceptable?

Add another to the list of poor AC performace. With an August build date, I fall within the range of the TSB. Going to schedule with my dealer and see where I end up but after reading this thread and the others I don't really have high hopes...

Let us know how your appointment goes, revolutionz. Also, please send us a private message with your VIN and mileage so we can have this properly documented in our system.

you will get no where!! I just "finished" with my case manager. FCA told the dealer to not try any other remedies because the truck's A/C is working as "designed".......so that means that even though probably every other vehicle on the market will blow air to 40degress, even though a 2018 ram 1500 will blow ice cold air.......the 2019 ram 1500 is it's own design...and it is made to only blow to 50degrees if you are lucky....wonder how long it will take for FCA to own up to this pile of you know what!!

Sorry for your experiences, but can you please tell us what model truck you have, what trim level, that is do you have the Level 1 or Level 2 package ? 12" or 8" screen? Thank you.

If this is their attitude, I can't see them continuing to sell a high volume of trucks in the Gulf south. 50deg air is not going to cut it on a 100 deg 80% humidity day.....
This is my 6th Ram, but it will be my last if they don't own up to this. It's starting to get HOT down here, and one uncomfortable summer will be it for me...........

i have the laramie trim, and I think it is the level 1 pkg....8.4" screen, I haven't noticed some of the issues people are talking about...I do notice the brakes squeak, but the a/c performance is far and away my biggest issue....it's a deal breaker for me. If I can't find a way to get FCA to deal with it...I will get rid of the truck! and that is sad because this is the 1st vehicle I have ever bought in my life where I did not pay attention to price but got all of the features that I wanted. this ram is a great truck so far...except for the deal breaking a/c issue

I probably wont, yet. I didn't buy the truck from the two ram dealers I've got in town, so I'd like to wait until a known issue is happening. Like the popping noise coming from the right front, if I can consistently replicate that, I'd take it in. But asking them to do some exploratory search for why my AC isn't as cold as id like it to be seems like a **** move on my part (if that makes any sense). I did try to buy the truck through them two times this spring but each salesman I texted either wasn't working there the following week, or just never texted me back so that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The other dealer in town was searching for the truck but didn't get me a good deal on my trade so long story short...not sure if they're interested in doing me any favors. The service department is probably not savvy to any of that tho
They are replacing a sway bar and end links on my truck for a bumping noise in the front end!

Seems like it's about hot enough that dealers are going to be complaining of lost sales after folks take test drives and can't cool off. A drop in new vehicle sales should get everyone's attention far better than a forum ever will.
