Air conditioning performance

That sucks for sure, but I think we all knew that was going to happen, as there is no official FCA fix at this time. We all agree with you. Some day a dealer will step up to the plate, and work with FCA about this. I also completely believe FCA knows about this, but does not know how to rectify the situation, (as per the old TSB they put out for the early builds).
I started a new thread. Please pass it on.

The drivers side center vent tends to be 8-10 degrees warmer than the passengers center vent. Many members seeing 58-60 degrees for driver and like 46-48 out of passenger center vent. As outside ambient temp rises the vent temps will rise some. If you shut off the heater core coolant supply, both vents will blow like 36-40 degree air approximately. So really, the AC is working. The chilled air is being heated back up because of internal heat diluting the cold air. There is internal blend door issues that is allowing heat to blend with chilled air from evaporator. Ram dealers should offer to add a heater core manual valve to act as a temporary fix for the summer as they determine a permanent proper long term resolution. Five minute fix with $15 in parts. ******* Alex from RamCares.....Please share this with engineers and management at Ram*******

I called my local RAM dealer today concerning the A/C TSB. The build date of the truck I am looking at is Aug 2018, within the time frame of the TSB. I asked them to run the VIN and let me know if it was flagged for the A/C TSB. They told me there was not TSBs for that VIN, but it did have a safety recall for the brake pedal. When I test drove the truck I noticed that the A/C was not cooling like t should and the outside temps here in FL were high 80s. So I wonder exactly what this TSB accomplishes to address this A/C issue and will they service it, even if it is not listed. makes you go hmmmmmm..
I doesn’t do or change anything. I have it done on Tuesday.

lol....Not that I am aware of. He did say in a private message he would pass our findings on to Ram engineers after I asked him to. Hopefully, they are waking up to the fact that the consumers on "Fifth Gen Ram" now know reason that AC vent temps are too warm. They can evacuate and recharge freon 1000 times and its not going to fix it. Fix blend door (or control coolant flow to heater core) and ......Bazinga.......all good and cold vent temps! Its a miracle!

There are at least 5 threads about AC running now. Here is a list...
1) Air conditioning Hack
2) RAM AC poor performance TWITTER/FACEBOOK
3) A/C Performance
4) Air conditioning performance
5) Update on A/C issues

Not sure if there is a way to combine threads.

Hi everyone,
There was an issue with the TSB (24-001-19) where all of the VINs were not included. This has been corrected and the dealer system has been updated to reflect this change. I have reposted the TSB below. Please check to see if your build date falls within this TSB. If it does, please send us a private message to ensure this is handled appropriately and we can get you in contact with someone who will work with your dealer towards a resolution. If you do not fall within the build dates and are experiencing this, please send our team a private message as we would like to make sure we have this properly documented to pass on to the appropriate parties. We do apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience.

My truck was built in April, and it also has this problem.

This is good news that my vehicle now shows it needs this update (I called to verify). The bad news is I have to bring it into the service station again after I was already there for two recalls last week when they said the A/C was working fine and there was no TSB that applied. I appreciate my time and this will waste more of it due to a system error. The fact that there has to be a TSB and/or a recall is already a known manufacturer error, so further administrative errors about repairing the errors are especially aggravating.

Mine was built February 19 and it does not apply still have very poor AC.

I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I had the TSB performed on mine last week. I cannot notice any appreciable difference. It is still very slow to cool, doesn't blow cold, and is warmer on the drivers side vs the passenger side.

Thoroughly documented the visits and findings relevant to the poor performance of the A/C. Sent in to RAM Cares(?) have Case # - Did not get a written response but was told again via phone call, that the A/C is operating as designed. This is the biggest bunch of crap. I submitted the technical service diagnostic bulletin which clearly shows the unit should produce 45F air on the drivers center vent on an 80F day. Best dealer could get was 48F - I have not been able to replicate that reading since I got it back. Best I get is 52F, have no idea how they got 48F.
Also showed them where the diagnostic bulletin shows the High Side Pressure should be between 200 and 300 psi and the dealer clearly noted my High Side Pressure was 118PSI. It is beyond me how you can look at these numbers and tell someone that the unit is "operating as designed". FCA is just trying to weasel out of a problem. From the responses I get, they have no plans to fix this issue.

This is what I was afraid of....even though they have vin numbers issue corrected on recall , the problem with uneven and excessively high vent temps for cooling is not being resolved as it is a blend door problem. My truck was built 07/08/18 so it is in range. Until I see others getting real resolution from dealer involvement , perhaps I will add a 2 valve coolant bypass (diagram added below) for now and take it to dealer when a true fix has been developed that other members have good results from. Do not cut your factory hoses so you can return truck to perfectly stock. If you choose to do this, it is at your own risk.

You are making me want to forego my trip the dealer and not waste my time. I feel like it won't be worth the effort. It was worth the effort when I already had it in there for two recalls, but, as I said, last week my vehicle didn't qualify for the TSB and now it does. Can't make this stuff up.

Ram Care, I sent the VIN # through a private message yesterday. Did you get it?

I went to my dealer last week for my service and all the recalls. I asked to the AC TSB applies but they said since it is operating as intended the TSB cannot be applied. “Operating as Normal”. Even though I am in the build range. Not worth my time to take it back and argue with it. Will try again on next service....

For now my solution is to manually control my “Automatic” climate control. I ignore the temp setting of the climate control system and just keep pressing temp down until I get cold air. Press back up again when I get comfortable.

Add another to the list of poor AC performace. With an August build date, I fall within the range of the TSB. Going to schedule with my dealer and see where I end up but after reading this thread and the others I don't really have high hopes...
