Air conditioning Hack

After procrastinating for 2 1/2 years I finally did the hack and never looked back. A month ago I got an oil change at the dealer, the service advisor said " you had a small leak from one of the hose clamps on your valve we tightened it " he never asked me what is was for !

I have not had it formally checked yet since the dealer wanted to charge me 128.00 for a diagnosis, then keep the Ram for up to 9 days since they are so backed up, and my service package only covers 3 days of rentals, so didnt want to pay out of pocket.

They also sell these, but I wouldn’t do it on a new truck.

Repairs would be covered under warrenty, but the dealer wanted to charge for diagnosis and keep the truck for 9 days minimum in order to perform the diagnosis. The Mopar plan only gives me three days of covered rental expense, but for me to foot the bill on 6 more diagnosis days, and however much time they need to fix the AC say a week or more, will add up to more expense on my part.

I'm going to push on the AC issue with them, hopefully they can be good about a quicker diagnosis.

Alright, so after reading through all 67 pages and 3 days later… lol

I first picked up the parts to do the hack, then came across the TSBs on here.

Just spoke with my dealer, truck is at 41k miles and I do not have an extended warranty.

Dealer says TSBs are not covered outside of warranty. Where do I stand with this?

I can only imagine the cost of this, going to be stupid! I plan to keep this truck though, so it seems like if I want to continue to be happy with it, it needs to get done.

Something not right if DEALER wants to charge you for a Diagnosis of a Covered Issue. May be time for another dealer, cause they should not be charging you for a diagnosis on an item covered under warranty, IMHO...

From what I've heard, you have to pay for the TSB if outside of 3/36 warranty, even though it's FCA's screw up. If that's the case, just use the hack.

On the other hand, they will open a case for a one time courtesy. @RamCares can you help get the charges waived as this is a manufacturer defect, and not a failure?

Im adding my experience owning both a 2021 and now a 2022 Ram 1500. The AC has not blown cold in both. Before I traded in my 2021 it was never cold unless I had on max cool, even then never really cold, and I spoke to the dealer about it and they said it’s too hot outside in San Antonio, TX for them to test and to come back when it’s cooler outside, and even said to get my windows tinted, but even that didn’t help. Fast forward a year and I traded in for a 2022 hoping for fixes, but the issue with the AC is still there, does not blow cold, it’s luke warm at best and when I turn the temp dial to 12’o clock it’s literally like the heater is on, not anywhere where I’d expect for a ‘mid’ setting. I must always use max AC to get anywhere close to the AC on my older chevy. These two rams are almost identicle except I got wireless car play on my 8.4 Uconnect (don’t get me started on the Box error message pop ups and lack of wifi SMH). So I don’t know what’s different in these years vs the 2020 except that problems are still present on AC and Uconnect for my 2022. The hack Im a little worried about but I’m tempted to try. @RamCares where is a TSB to cover 2021-2022 models which all have the same issues?

not dry, just not flowing (as much). chevy trucks, vw/audi, motorhomes, several vehicles use this function to control heating by means a cable actuated or electric operated valve to stop flow of hot coolant into the core.

I have had the hack installed for 3 years now, no issues. Open it in winter, close it 90% during the summer. Never have to worry about the stealership messing with my truck.

Welp, I had been doing the hack and my AC system went out - luckily it happened about 2 weeks before the factory warranty expired so it was fully repaired (of course I removed the clamp before bringing it in). They had to keep it over a week as there was a delay on getting parts. I haven't done the clamp since then - not an extreme need to me as I'm in NJ so there's only really 2 months it might be of help - but I'm ok with how it is cooling in 90+ temps as it is and don't want to chance it again. Maybe it had nothing to do with it or was a coincidence..who knows?

If that is meant for my "went out" ...I turned it on one day and it was blowing totally warm air (this on a 90 degree day) and never got cooler in any way. The fan blew on all speeds/settings but it was like being in front of a hair dryer. It was a while back but they replaced the condenser, evaporator, and said the refrigerant fouled the trans cooler...don't remember if it was cleaned or replaced with new (I think it was replaced...have to check receipt).

Maybe I missed it, but I went through all 67 pages....
Does anyone have a picture of where the valve would go on the 3.6L V6 engine? Can't see anything obvious when looking in, and the only other post I could find about the V6 was someone using the clamp up by the firewall.
