Air conditioning Hack

Wasn’t one of the negative impacts of the TSB is that the temperature range for pre-cooling the cabin when remote-start is used is not as good as original? Living in Houston, I use my remote start all the time and certainly would not want to negatively impact that function. I plan to keep this truck long term, so the chance that something starts rattling deep in the dash years down the road, or that the pre-cooling function is negatively impacted has me choosing “hack” over TSB.
YES. I had the TSB done, did cool down a lil more, but the remote function was affected, IMHO at least 50%. There are times my Remote Function will not even engage the AC. But I can say, below 40 degrees, the heating remote function works, you just have to remember these trucks are too smart and will not blow much heat on remote till the engine gets to operating temp. So U get the Good and the Bad on this TSB. I still have my lil clamp in the truck in case have to put on outlet water hose to heater core if it gets too hot.

ADDED: I am currently waiting on a new "E FAN". Mine is not operating properly and has been ordered since 1 Feb 2022. SO whenever it comes in, and I am gonna have a BIG Argument with my SA< and see if I can convince them to reflash all the HVAC controls, to see if I can get my remote system working the way it did before I had the TSB done. Will report on whether or not happens, and if it does, the results.
 
Thank you!!! I have an appointment tomorrow and initially I wanted just fix my air condition vents which don't flow air correctly but today I found this discussion and hopefully I will do both now. Btw, I measured temperature today from my vents and it stays around 50F when I idle and air-condition is on - but hopefully all will go smooth 🤞 and temperature drops :)
U will still find a temp difference between 3-5 degrees from drivers side to Pax side, at least on MY 19. After TSB, my vent temps have dropped to 48 degrees, and if running hard, center may get down to 45/46 degrees. Make sure you want the TSB done and have at a reputable dealer, because they have to PULL the entire dash and all the blower assembly, motors, etc,., and you sure want a decent mechanic that can put all back together.
 
Yes. It's august. Did you hear of any tsb's for this? Or we just on our own?
Not that I know of. However yours is right on the cut off date, so it may have gotten the old style housing by accident. Not sure how to tell besides vent temps tho

I went today and I kind of chickened out to give my car to them after talking. They said you probably meed freon flashed which will not be covered by warranty. Also, I was worried that they will not assemble it as it right now and I will get more issues than now. I measured temp today when was driving and temps were 48-50 on blower speed 2 and circulation inside cabin. You think those temps are ok or can be approved or this is pure much on normal side what ppl get after tbs done?

Looks like Im out of tbs thing because my manufacture date is 08/2020. I was thinking to do xpel on windsheid to help with temps. If that will be not sufficient then probably I will try vent thing(for long run) or clamps for temporary solution to see if I will get any difference
 
I bought myself the 7$ test kit and I believe that I have the same issue, manufacturing date is 8-18. I just moved to the St. Louis area, so I have no idea what dealers to trust and what dealer not to trust. The dealership where I bought the car does not really give me the good vibes, although they have a good score on Google.

Anyone here from the St Louis area, or anyone who has tips how to know if a dealer is trustworthy? It does sound like an invasive job.

If you do the hack and the temps are still not cooler, then the TSB won't help. In this case you may need some refrigerant or something else is wrong with the system. I got a pex ball valve from lowes that fit the 5/8 heater hose, and bought a short piece of hose and 2 clamps from autozone to make mine.

Don't get the one at the parts store listed as "heater control valve". It will start leaking in about a week.
I understand that I need to clamp a hose to avoid leakage before disassembling it, but when you pull off hose will it leak from another side(I mean from that pipe from where you are pulling off)? I read many ppl said it was glued and they needed to cut it off
Did you buy regular antifreeze or from Mopar?
 
I bought those clamps. did a hack and fully tighten the hose. My temp went down to 46 only from 50. Not much improvents for sure.
P.S. I have model 08/2020 which is not coverde by TSB.

Did you buy regular antifreeze or from Mopar?
Use mopar 50/50. I clamped the hose off by wrapping it with a rag and using a needle nose vice grip
 
I have two thermometers and they read around 1.5 degrees between the two.

When you adjust for the disparity between the thermometers my A/C is the same for the driver’s side left vent and the center vent.

I haven’t checked either of the passenger side vents.

I have a 2022 Limited and they both read around 48 - 49 degrees on the hottest of Texas days.

Does anyone know if this will void your extended warranty?
 
I doubt it. Just take it off before bringing the truck in to the dealer for anything.

I've had mine in and out of the dealership for 3 years, for all oil changes, mirror replacement, and active air dam. Also have the pedal Commander hooked up, but I do have that hidden away for my preference. Active air dam was a after market warranty thing. Never a problem here.

Good to hear. I have to get this done this week. The ac is weak as all get out. Glade to hear it worked. wouldn’t trust the ac hack. I know someone that did the valve hack and out of no where he went to floor the gas’s and pressure popped it off leaking all his coolant and stranding them.

We’ll, he definitely didn’t do it right
 
So I'm able to measure both heater hoses going through the firewall and to the heater core with my thermal image camera and you can see the coolant going into the heater core is about 6 degrees hotter than whats coming out. I dont know if this is negligible or not?

Nice info. Not sure if this matters since the heater core doesn’t have a valve to shut it off from factory. It’s always got heated water flowing through it. The part that the TSB fixes is that some of the hot air was passing through, heating the cooled air from the AC. This is mitigated with the AC hack
