Air conditioning confirmed from tech that it sucks and there’s no work around.

I always feel guilty saying this but the A/C in my 2021 is literally like a different system than my 2019. It is drastically colder to the point we often need to turn off "Auto" because it's just too cold.
If you have to turn off auto because it's too close you just need to adjust the "auto" temp setting. I keep mine at 72.

I felt like my 19 was this way before the TSB. All good now

Hey all,

I know its been talked about throughout various forums and threads. But who else has been having issues with their 5th Gen’s AC?? I’ve taken mine in twice now (2020 Ram Rebel) first time was the system not cool enough on max settings during the hotter months here in Sacramento. Second time today I brought it in due to the cabin feeling muggy once auto stop/start was active. I read somewhere, can’t remember if its from another thread or hearsay, that the eTorque system was suppose to help with this issue. Can someone confirm or educate me on this??

Crazy to think that 3 of my service vehicles that are older and have over 100k (2015 Ford F-150) have the same stop/start tech and does not suffer from this. According to the service advisor who owns the same year Ram, he too shares the same issue and have not heard of any TSBs on fixing this.

My 2015 Challenger R/T also suffers from this issue and also doesn’t have any fix. I’m starting to think all newer model FCA vehicles will be like this.
I have a 2020 Longhorn and my a/c sucks (unless it's on Max). I took it back to the dealer and had them check it - they said it's working as it should, which is ********.

Did you show them the TSB? Pretty sure it applies to 2020 models

Thought so. Print the TSB and bring it with you.

2019 Bighorn, mid 2019 production… no complaints. A/C works great even on the hottest days here in N Va. I must have gotten lucky, based on the amount of complaints I‘ve read about 2019s

Thanks for bringing this to our attention @theblet.

I started to notice last night driving home that my 2021 ram 1500 with 950 miles doesn't cool all that great. With that ac turned down all the way and the blower set on 1, vehicle starts to get really muggy. the air coming out of vents at the lowest blower speed doesn't seem cold at all. Have to turn the blower up to 4 or 5 to start getting cool again. I have a 2008 Mercedes ML350, I can leave the blower on 1 with the ac set to the lowest temp setting and I will start freezing. Going to take a manual temp gauge with me next time I go to see the temp out of the vents.

Is it possible the evaporator is icing up with the low airflow and blocking that air?

(Obviously, a correctly functioning AC system won't get down to freezing (35F is the target), but if you have a slight leak, the lack of refrigerant would allow the colder temps.)

Hard to compare today’s system to a pre-2015 unit because of the difference in refrigerant.

Manufacturers are now required to use R-1234y vs the old R-134a in your 2008

I’m pretty convinced that this ac either has a problem or it’s just real crappy. Yesterday morning was around 60° outside and when I had the AC at 73 in the truck I started to get extremely warm. Even when I turned it down to 68 I was still warm. turning it down all the way to the lowest setting I started to get cool again. Put my manual temperature gauge in the vents and I noticed when the AC is at 67 or 68 the temp gauge goes almost to 80. When it’s at 65 the gauge starts to register in the 60s. Seemed only when I turned it to 66° would it maintain that temperature but anything higher will start to go back up to 80.

I have a 15'. Started having issue with my AC a year into ownership. Eventually the compressor seized up and blew the belt. Everything repaired under warranty. I operate this truck the same as every vehicle before. I live in Iowa so it's either extremely cold or extremely humid and hot in the middle of the winter and summer seasons. During those months I usually operate it as low as it can go, or as hot as it can go with fan on high until I get comfortable and then I lower the blower down but leave the temp as the same. During the mild spring and fall months I will run it in the comfortable temps of high 60s or 70 lows and then change fan speed. I change fan speed more than the actual temp. seems to work just fine.
