Adding Passive Entry: How-to

just curious if anyone on here has attempted to buy the new passive entry handles and used a Dremel to cut out the square and then swapped the hardware into the textured black handles. Also has anyone had any issues with the dealership revoking their warranty bc of this?

Since I had to get my box of parts down for something else, I figured I’d check out the handles. Provided the textured black ones are two piece like the painted versions, there is one small torx screw (T-8) which you should see if you pull out on your factory handles. Take that out and the cover pops off pretty easily.

The PE handles appear to use the same screw, without pulling it out of the door I can’t confirm the other end doesn’t have anything different.

You would need to cut 2 holes in your original covers. One for the button, and one for the pickup for the magnet in the cap.

If you have the time and patience to make 2 square holes, you might be able to make it work with your original handles.

As for the caps, if you take them apart and they have the little slot like in the photo below, you should be able to move the magnet from a set of caps that has them into your existing caps.

I don’t know that cutting and trying to swap parts is doable, but with enough determination, who knows. What color is your truck? I’ve got the original non-pe handles off my truck I traded, I’d be willing to sacrifice one to see if they are even able to be disassembled without ruining them.

As for the warranty, if you just add the harnesses from Jimmy07, you’re not really doing much to any of the original wiring, and it would have to be proven that whatever you did was the specific cause of failure. It’s not going to void your whole warranty, I imagine it would fall under the same lines of adding exhaust or air intakes which don’t void warranty coverage unless they specifically caused a problem.
My truck is billet silver and yes the handles are two pieces just like the ones you posted. Thank you so much for the pictures as it seems that with a little modifications, cutting the two holes, I might be able to get it to work. Either that or I’ll have to spray paint them flat black or take them to a body shop to have them painted bc I really like the way they look on the truck bc everything else is blacked out with no chrome anywhere.

@Jimmy07 I’m interested in doing this to my HD. I think I’ve got all of the part numbers figured out for the door handles and the rear antenna. Am I missing anything else? I came across part numbers 68402181AB and 68402182AA, labeled as left and right passive entry, door jumper wiring. Do you have any idea what these wiring jumpers are for? Thanks

On an HD truck factory equipped with passive entry, you have the main door harness, and a jumper harness that plugs into a connector on the main door harness to complete the route to the door handle. The main door harness on a non-passive entry HD does not contain the connector that the jumper harness plugs into. You would have to buy both the main door harnesses and jumper harnesses. The add-on door handle harnesses that I build eliminate the need to replace any wiring, but instead just pin right into the two missing wire locations on the main door to body connector.

Could you pm me a price for the door harnesses you make?

Finally received the handles and antenna for my 2020 2500 in olive green pearl coat. The handles in that color w/passive entry were not showing up online so I had to reach out to a local dealership to track down the part numbers. It wasn't showing up in their system either so they had to reach out to Chrysler to get the correct part number. Something about a catalog error.
If the weather cooperates I hope to do the install on Tuesday and will report back.

I just ordered everything last week. I paid $311 (included tax and shipping) for all parts - 2 handles, 2 handle caps, rear antenna, and the 3 harnesses that Jimmy07 makes. I already owned alfaobd, bypass , and obdlink mx to do the programming.
Where did you get your parts? I have the same color truck and looking to start the process.

Got the drivers side done on my Ram 2500 yesterday. Success! No more fishing around in my pocket for the key fob. Thanks to everyone that got this project going. Thanks Jimmy07 for the harnesses and helping me out with the wiring.
Some of the removal steps are a little different from the 1500's so it took some time to figure a few things out, but its done now. The passenger side should go much faster. I'll take more (better) pics when I do the other door in case anyone needs them. (y)

You better take some pictures because this is next on my list. I already have the wiring from Jimmy. Need to purchase the rest of the parts and I'm ready to go. Hopefully this will fix my remote start unlocking

Definitely, anybody doing these HD Ram installs, please get some pics at least to @MayhemMOORE so he can insert them into one of the reserved writeup posts at the beginning of the thread.

I'll download some off my phone and send them over. I'll get some better ones of a few things tomorrow, some of them arent very clear.

USPS is killing me. Dealership I ordered all my parts from is only 4 1/2 hours from me in the same state. They assured me that they dropped off my parts to USPS office near them 6 days ago (15th). USPS tracking is still stuck on " Shipping label created". I have the harnesses from Jimmy already and my vacation starts Wednesday so I will have free time to install it. USPS better get moving haha!

I went through bestmopar.com . They are an authorized RAM dealership in NYS (White Plains Ram) . I do not know if I would go through them again though. Purchased everything on the 9th. Got shipping slip created on the 14th. They say they dropped it off to USPS on the 15th. 6 days to ship is slow in my eyes. Plus USPS still has the info as "shipping label created" so I am giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt that it is USPS that is really screwed up at this point.

Usps is all screwed up right now, it's not just you it's everybodies stuff unfortunately

Yeah I do get it...not even their fault. They got thrown to the wolves by FedEx and ups because they both capped the number of deliveries taken from retailers which left usps to handle all the surplus. Just stinks waiting !

Passenger handle installed. Works. Locks work. Mirror works. Power window on passenger side does not work. Trying to control from driver switch does not work it either. Any ideas?

Double check all the connectors. Could have one not seated all the way, or you could have somehow had a terminal pop loose on one of the connectors. I believe another member had a similar issue that was resolved by going back through all the connections.

I didn't find any obvious loose, disconnected, etc wires.
The white plug on the door module has power at the red and black wires coming from the door. The black plug with wires going to the window motor has no power. If I push the window button they get power for a brief moment but then back to zero voltage. Checked the module to switch and module to window motor wires for continuity. Did I mess up the door module somehow?

If you're sure everything is plugged in, including the switches in both doors, try disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a bit, then reconnecting and see if the issue persists. I'm not that familiar with the HD's so other than the obvious stuff I don't know where to point you.

Tried that earlier but didn't time it, so not sure how long I left it unplugged. I'm going to pull out the door plug tomorrow and go over it again. 🤷‍♂️
