A/C Performance

I test drove a 2019 limited the other day in 90+ degree heat. Kept thinking the AC wasn't cooling the inside down adequately. Thought maybe it was because I didn't give it enough time. Came here and saw this thread. Super concerning since I live in Houston, and this will definitely factor in my decision on whether to purchase a RAM or not. Any idea if there are changes to the 2020 model's AC?

What part of Houston? What dealer were dealing with? What did the sales person/staff say? Did you mention your concerns? Did you ask them these questions? Inquiring minds would like to know?
 
103 degrees in Dallas today and my interior is so so. I've debated whether or not to clamp off the heater hose, put a valve in it, or just tint the windshield since that seems to be the main culprit of the heat. I have had the best window tint put on all the windows except the windshield and that has saved it from being unbearable. If it is 90 or so the interior is comfortable, but let it get around 95 and up and it's so so. My air blows cold in the mornings, only when the temp gets to cookin does it flake out a bit. Decisions, decisions.....

Clamp it. Cheap, reversible, works very well!

I wanted to know how you're A/C is working. I feel mine does not get completely cold all the time. My old 14 blew very cold air.

The only thing I’ve noticed is that from 1-3 the blower level seem too low. 4+ and that baby is ice cold in seconds.

Don’t waste your money tinting the windshield , spend the $15 for a valve or even less for a clamp and enjoy what your AC should be!
 
Here are my observations: both cooling and heating the cabin, BOTH are VERY flawed, and we should not be forced into doing "hacks" ourselves, this vehicle should perform properly with factory parts/engineering.

HEATING
Conditions. (cold start or full operating temp)

Example 50+- degrees exterior ambient temp.

78 degrees set interior temp on the screen

Ice cold air will blow through the vents until raising temp to FULL HI HEAT, no other setting below HI HEAT will shut off the ice cold vent air. Upon pushing the temp button to HI HEAT, if the vehicle is up to operating temp, the vents will shut off and no cold air will blow, and heat will blow from the foot-well, however if you attempt to lower the temp by even as minor as 1-2 degrees, the system will revert back to ice cold air being blown through the vents, you will need to continue to toggle back and forth to eventually get the system to adjust and get the temp comfortable in the cabin, it really should not be this hard to get a comfortable temp.


COOLING
Conditions (cold start or full operating temp)

Example 90+ degrees exterior ambient temp

70 degrees set interior temp set on the screen

The system will NOT get very cold, almost lukewarm in my opinion, the only way to get appreciable cold air is to go the complete opposite as above, and place the system in MAX A/C, the system will put the blower on very high and will produce a reasonable colder temp, but not real cold like any other system in any other vehicle (past RAM1500, my BMW’s, Mazda, Range Rover, Cadillac), which will all freeze you out of your mind at any setting under 70 degrees, where this truck barely makes a dent in the coolness of cabin temp, all the while having the blower blowing full speed which is really annoying when trying to hold a conversation, or speak to a client on the phone, ALL THE WHILE SWEATING PROFUSELY UNTIL THE CABIN GET A "LITTLE COOLER". NO other vehicle I have ever owned or rented for that matter has ever had a HVAC that acted this way. I fear that next week when I take my daughter to Arizona to start school, the system will not keep up in the Arizona desert. My old Ram 1500, or any other vehicle for that matter would have turned me into an icicle in the desert sun if the A/C was set too low. The bottom line, is this new system does NOT get cold.

Coupled with this, is the fact that the app is so limited in function, it also does not allow you to set a cabin temp (hot or cold) like all other vehicle mfgs, in my opinion, this app is completely useless.
 
Well....my a/c place has ordered a valve and will install in the morning in the heater hose. I am sure hoping this makes a big difference, but a bit nervsous!!! Will report back to you guys....

Should lower the temp out of your center vents to at least 46 to 47 degrees F. That’s tolerable.
 
Well...here we go!!! I got my truck back and it was roughly 6:30ish. It was still 100 degrees outside although the sun was no directly overhead. I need to test it during the heat of the day more, but it appears that the air is blowing CONSIDERABLY colder than before. In fact, it was downright cold. I will have a better idea after my road trip to East Texas tomorrow!!! At this point, I am a very happy man!!!
 
I was in OK this weekend and it was 100+ outside. We had the ac on and it was so chilly I had a hoodie on. (I love it cold). I feel like I am pretty picky when it comes to ac systems and I have seen 0 issues with mine. I have had the truck 2 months In the thick of the summer and it has done a fantastic job.

How about taking some vent temps? Thanks friend.
Turn AC on, recirculate on, and use a medium fan speed. Use a digital thermometer with a corded sensor place into vent
measure drivers side center vent and passengers side center vent. Then provide ambient temp and humidity. :)

New to the group, but not to Ram trucks. I just traded my 2015 Ram 2500 (5.7L) for a 2019 2500 (6.4L) last Friday. I noticed the next day that the A/C was blowing cool, but not nearly as cold as the previous truck (or our Wrangler).

I called the sales manager Saturday and he made me an appointment for Monday morning. My wife dropped it off at 9am. Service called me about lunch time (they gave my wife a loaner vehicle) saying that right after they opened the ticket with the A/C code, Chrysler called them and told them not to touch it until they heard from STAR (the tech assistance line).

They had them go through a laundry list of tests on the lower end of the unit (whatever that means) and didn't want them doing anything to the upper portion. Here I am at a week of ownership and the dealer has now had it 5 days of that.

The tech line has exhausted all options and tests and can not figure out the issue. They are supposed to send over the region's service rep that is based in Nashville (I am in the Knoxville area) maybe next week to look at it. The service manager said unofficially that he simply thinks Chrysler knows there is an issue but doesn't know how to fix it. The dealer said it is blowing about 18 degrees warmer than it should.

In the meantime, the sales manager (and service manager) are pushing Chrysler to just swap me out of this truck all together. I have Chrysler Corp person involved in this too (not some from Chrysler care) and they are doing some investigating on this as well.

I am not sure if I push for a replacement or just ask for my old truck back at this point. It is frustrating. The dealership has been great at getting back to me and keeping my posted, but Chrysler seems to be slow going on this. $50k truck that I can't even drive at this point and I had been trying to be patient, but that is wearing thin.
 
Has anyone else noticed that the vents warm significantly when making left turns? I watched my thermometer as I made a few turns, and it raises from its steady 6c (bought in the UK before I moved here!) to over 11c and then comes back down rapidly. It’s very strange.

Have you considered buying a Ram Classic like your old truck? They still make the old version you have and sell them brand new, and they still have great AC units, and all the bugs are worked out of them of course...DO NOT settle for that faulty New Ram AC,
if the dealer will refund your money and give you your old truck back or perhaps you buy a new 2019 RAM classic and get the difference refunded might be the way to go. Although you shouldn't have an issue with the 2019 Ram classic I would still test the AC with a thermometer just in case Chrysler is using different parts now that could affect the Ram Classic 2019 as well as the brand new Ram truck models. I have taken my truck in to the dealer for this same issue of not cooling the air very cold when the temp outside is above 90 degrees fahrenheit plus I have had the whole blower and system turn off on me a couple time which through a couple codes when they scanned it for overtemp blower and over current blower or something like that and the dealer told me that fca is working on a software flash to fix the ac issue. Sounds to like maybe just a simple flash is not going to take care of this. That was around a month ago they told me this, had the truck in on something else last week and the update was still not available. Would be nice to hear something on on this from @RamCares if they are working on something or is this my dealer just feeding me a line just to get me out the door.
