A/C Performance

Have you considered buying a Ram Classic like your old truck? They still make the old version you have and sell them brand new, and they still have great AC units, and all the bugs are worked out of them of course...DO NOT settle for that faulty New Ram AC,
if the dealer will refund your money and give you your old truck back or perhaps you buy a new 2019 RAM classic and get the difference refunded might be the way to go. Although you shouldn't have an issue with the 2019 Ram classic I would still test the AC with a thermometer just in case Chrysler is using different parts now that could affect the Ram Classic 2019 as well as the brand new Ram truck models. Good luck and please follow up for us with your outcome! Thanks friend. :giggle:
To my knowledge, they do not offer the 2500 in a classic package like they do with the 1500. If they do offer it, I have never seen a 2019 2500 classic.

Took mine in on the 21st to address poor shift points in my transmission and the weak air conditioning. Trans was corrected with an update, thankfully.

The A/C issue resulted in the following:

PERFORMED A/C PERFORMANCE TEST. A/C TEMP IS WITHIN SPECS FOR CURRENT TEMP AS PER CHRYSLER.
FOR 80 DEGREES SPECS ARE 45 DEGREES AND FOR 90 DEGREES SPEC IS 55 DEGREES.

They admitted they too believe this is rubbish and that older trucks and almost every other vehicle on the road performs better and all they could do was apologize. Stating they can't do anything unless it comes down from FCA and that all we can do is live with it.

Told them about the closing off of the heater hose and they just shrugged in acknowledgment. Didn't say yay / nah....just a shrug. Akin to a wink wink I suppose.

At least they didn't lie or try to blow smoke up my rump. I appreciated the honesty.

Has anyone else noticed that the vents warm significantly when making left turns? I watched my thermometer as I made a few turns, and it raises from its steady 6c (bought in the UK before I moved here!) to over 11c and then comes back down rapidly. It’s very strange.

I noticed this in Winter, when I would make a tight turn the Heat would go cold for a couple seconds. I thought I was imagining it but after you said this I am wondering if there is a design flaw that is making this happen.

The FCA field rep is scheduled to come out tomorrow (Tuesday) to look at it (day 11 of ownership, day 9 of it being at the dealership) so we will see what happens after this. Everyone seems to agree there is an issue. Just a matter if they can determine what causes it and can fix it.

My truck has been at the dealership under the eye of FCA for 3 weeks now. They are reflashing and recharging the system, but honestly I feel they are trying to brush this under the rug, and not addressing the major engineering snafu they have on their hands. I am thinking a class action suit will be coming soon, as I am seeing a ground swell of very upset Ram owners, perhaps someone is going to get the ball rolling soon on this so FCA will get off their tush and fix the obvious engineering disaster they have here.

Depending on your state's lemon law guidelines, you should be in or near being able to file for lemon law protection (as long as you bought it new).

With more and more dealerships/service departments admitting to the issue and agreeing with our complaints, something has to happen eventually.

I'd be pretty disappointed if it were just us forum dwellers complaining, considering every other person who chimes in on the issue gives their scientific opinion of just how ice cold their's is. Pressed on it, they come up with some stupid excuse as to not have to prove anything to anyone...which makes me question why in the f they even come on here to spout off about their ice cold a/c to begin with. I just figure folks are similar to my wife and I. She thinks it's cold when I'm sweating. She'd never complain about my A/C since she always prefers warmer temps. Anyway, probably not important.

I'm just happy that I've now gotten firm confirmation from a reputable dealer that they agree with me that my truck, and their personal trucks, and the shop manager's truck and all the other trucks have sub standard performing A/C.

Doesn't solve the problem, but makes me feel slightly better.

Who knows, maybe one of our very trucks will be the one that FCA finds the underlying issue and gets a true fix for it!

Yes, I am completely in lemon law status, it just sucks because I special ordered this truck and waited almost 4 months to get it.. Dunno, might be forced into this, and buy a new GMC...

Hey RBRK,

We don't want you to think we haven't made the appropriate teams aware of this. We've seen conversation and have asked customers to send us their VIN to get this formally documented. You can definitely send us a direct message as well. Very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and hope to hear from you soon

Ram Social Care Specialist

Unbelievable that this post was almost a year ago RAM Cares, and twenty something pages later and Ram is still sticking to their scapegoat little spec sheet of 55-60 deg AC is normal!

Actually this is a GOOD sign when the stores are acknowledging the problem and even giving tacit approval with the wink and nod to folks using the AC hack valve for decent vent temps from the AC system. It could mean that FCA is finally going to announce a actual fix for this problem, which I believe is a mechanical/design defect (HVAC blend box) and or software issues.

Sure it will cost the company money, but they need to keep consumers confidence since trucks is what FCA relies on for their big money makers. They have no choice if they really drop the ball I believe it could be curtains for FCA.

FAT CHANCE.... My feeling is that they will ignore, and sweep under the rug, there is SOOOO much evidence, that should be looked at, but it's a financial decision for them, they simply do not want to lose money, it's simple econimics.. It's all volume, if enough people simply don't know the problem exists, and buys the truck, the money made outweighs the issue being fixed.

So here's a thought. The 2020 Rams will be out soon and if the AC blows substantially colder than the '19, then we may have some hope. It will be easier to pin FCA down to the differences in AC systems when the 18's and 20's are 'normal' and blow sub 50 from the drivers side while the 19's blow 5 to 10 degrees warmer. Of course then we would need a lawyer or State AG to show interest.

If that were to be the case then I'd buy and fit 2020 parts and hope that a flash isn't needed or could be applied.

Ford, Chevy should launch commercial featuring "happy" sweating RAM owners. This will awaken FCA!
When I saw the latest ads with ford and chevy owners selling their trucks for a ram I really wished this would be the response. One quick forum visit here they would have all the ammo they needed. Love the happy sweaty ram owner idea haha..

FCA specifically wrote a spec sheet around lousy AC results, what is there to own up to? They already know full well 55+F air blows out of the vent. I hope for an official fix, but realistically doubt we will see one.

Ha, my plan is to take my 2500 in when its 60°F outside. Then, turn the A/C on full blast and watch their faces when my truck STILL BLOWS 64°F!

Interesting you say this, I can brake hard and watch my AC temp drop 5 degrees. Its as if I'm causing Freon to move and circulate better....

Wow that's crazy, although it isn't impossible that the pressure in the system increases slightly causing the temp to drop.

Anyone else care to offer an explanation as to why that might occur?
