Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and was searching around as I have been having similar AC issues. I just purchased my new ram 1500 bighorn/lonestar on Tuesday. I love the truck but have noticed that my AC is not blowing anywhere near as cold as it should. In fact the air feels warm. I just traded in a 2010 charger and that car would blow much colder air right away. I live in Texas and while this is not huge issue right now due to the cooler weather we are having it is going to be a MAJOR issue in the summer when it is 100+ degrees daily. I’m very disappointed in the performance of the AC as it is a necessity in these parts. I’m taking it in this week when I get back to San Antonio to have it looked at. Has anyone had the TSB performed or any other service that has corrected these issues? I’m going to measure the temperature when I get back home to have an accurate reading before I go to the dealership.

We've pretty much gotten through our "winter" and have had a number of high 80° days over the last couple of weeks. I still have the auto-temp set at 74°. It's been a set it and forget it since new (last July). I have had to shut off the driver vents a few times in the evenings because it's uncomfortably cool for me. I've got close to 7,500 miles on the truck now. Truck is operating as designed as far as I'm concerned.

There is no question that SOME 2019 Ram 1500s (new, 5th-generation "DT" trucks, not the Classic models) have sub-par air-conditioning performance. Some owners are satisfied, some are definitely not satisfied. Of roughly eight 2019 DT Ram 1500s I personally tried out at my dealership last summer and fall in SoCal, only one of them had what I consider normal, acceptable air-conditioning performance. So stick to your guns and try to get your dealer to get your truck right, if you genuinely have issues with the AC performance.

The post from Ram Cares on the previous page of this thread (post # 178 on Feb. 15, 2019), indicating that a TSB has been issued on AC system reprogramming, is a welcome sign, although disappointingly late. It will be interesting to see if those owners who so far have been unhappy with their truck's AC performance feel that the new TSB makes them whole, AC-wise.

Fingers crossed!

Anyone have the update done yet and notice any difference?

I had the update done in February but it’s just now starting to warm up here enough for the hvac to switch to a/c. I’ll post back as soon as I can truly test and see how the update works for me.(y)

Awesome, probably taking mine in this week for some work so I'm going to have them do the update on mine also. Mine was not nearly as cold as it should have been last summer/fall so we'll see. Even yesterday when it was 70, it was still not blowing as cold as I think it should.

Is it safe to assume that all new factory builds (mine is a March build in transit now) will have this AC TSB issue addressed and corrected during the build as all recalls are? Are TSB handled the same as in trucks cannot be put into service with outstanding recalls it TSB's.

I brought mine in for 2/15 TSB but they said there isn’t an update available for my VIN. Weird part is it was built in the timeframe specified and I have substandard cooling on hotter days. Should blow way colder. Also, it blows cold air in winter until engine is warm enough to blow warm air.

I have been watching and I have heard no one getting the AC TSB done and reporting any results... other than "It doesn't apply to your VIN" even though the build date is well within inside what is listed in the TSB.

I would love to here something other than "doesn't apply" results.

Hi c_attle,
We understand why this may be concerning. I am happy to look into this further for you to see if there's anything we can do on our end to help. Please send us a private message with your VIN and current mileage.

Mine was built the first of October. I work at a dodge dealership and mine just gets cool. Nothing that will freeze me. I also hooked my truck up to one of the “witech pods” that Chrysler uses to update all fca cars. Mine came back as no tsb or anything. I did however have a transmission update. But this air issue really does suck. We’ve just now gotten low 70’s and my black ram with pano roof gets warm quick and the AC sucks. Ram send out a update for this.

My truck is at the dealer and they say the TSB doesn’t apply to my vin even though the build date fits in the timeframe. Service Manager doesn’t know why. Can anyone enlighten me or can a Ram Care Rep weigh in here please?

Mine went in last week for the ground cable and brake pedal recall. Did the A/C TSB with no issues.

Hey did you happen to check the refrigerant charge,I thought I read earlier some getting theirs increased and it helped. My conspiracy theory is FCA tuned these to work this way to help with the MPG test rating ,if the compressor is not working as hard /slightly better number but I may be full of c**p..

I haven't needed to use my AC mostly due to getting my truck on Oct 1st in MN, however we drove it to AZ for spring break. It was 88 degrees outside and my AC was blowing warm/hot air. I brought it to the dealer in AZ. The said the refrigerant was low. They checked the system for leaks and found none. Speculation was that it came low from the factory. Will def be keeping an eye on it when it begins to get warmer out in MN. Not sure if others having this experience - but figured I'd report my situation here as well in case it helps someone.

Did they add refrigerant? If so did that fix the problem?

I keep a small, round thermometer stuck in one of the vents. The coldest the AC will blow out the vent is about 48 degrees, which probably isn’t too bad. But my 2015 Mustang GT blows right at 42 degrees out the vent, even in our hot, Texas summers.

Have any of you guys tested to see how cold your AC is blowing out the vents?

Thanks.

Starting to think this has something to do with 12.1 Radio

An A/C issue has something to do with the 12.1" radio screen??? You smoking weed my friend?

I have the 12.1 and my build date was 11/28. I live in FL and today it is in the mid-80's. The A/C is blowing SUPER COLD air so not issues here.
