It was a joke, but I definitely understand what you're saying.

Oh I know you were joking. It was for those not wanting to spend the extra $6-9 a tank.

If you do any data logging or sensor watching and understand pulling timing is never a good thing.

Plain and simple..

Now the real question. Who runs 89 ethanol free?

I run 90 “recreation” (ethanol free) fuel once a month or when I know I’m going to be towing heavy. There is a difference in performance, mild but it’s there.

Some would probably say I’m wasting money on 93, but I see differences that I like on that octane, so I’ll throw them here for you guys. I fill up at Costco and they only have 93 or 87 here ( The 93 is also cheaper at Costco than 87 is at the closest station to me by about $.35 right now Yay Costco! ) I live in South Florida so no real winter results but here’s the facts: 5.7 eTorque, 3.92 4x4, 26,500 miles over a year and 3 months. I ran the truck almost 5,000 miles before I realized 89 was recommended and so I switch to that. Going from 87 to 89 I noticed ( by feel ) a slight improvement in performance, nothing special, but I have a OBDII reader that shows timing and boy did that change, I didn’t realize how much it was pulling timing on 87, and the biggest place you notice that is in the MDS mode, which advances the timing as much as possible for efficiency. On 87 the MDS kicked off at 55, that’s the highest it would ever get. On 89 the MDS would stay on until about 68-74 depending on winds and temps. That was the big change for me. I do mostly highway so my overall fuel economy improved about 1-2 mpg. I was on 89 for about 8,000 miles before going to the Costco 93 and it did improve a slight bit more, the fact that it did at all surprised me and convinced me to stay with the higher octane. I got my best fuel economy ever on 93 ( 19.8 avg over 400 miles mostly highway ), best 0-60 ( 5.87 *based on my OBDII ) and highest MDS sustained of 79 MPH. There’s plenty or arguments against the higher octanes and lots of people run 87 just fine with no issues ever but for me the numbers and feel make it worth it to me.

Quick road trip from last weekend ... 87 octane gas. Full disclosure ... this is me trying my hardest not to go over 65mph using cruise control and staying on the right lane.

Damn, a 600+ mile range must be nice, the 3.92 gears and the 26 gallon give me 450 tops. idk about your truck but my fuel computer is always between 1-2 gallons high on mpg readout (it'll say 19 and ill actualy get 17ish ). I use Fuelly to see the real results.

https://www.pure-gas.org/ shows where to get it. One is right down the street from my house, and sometimes the price is exactly the same. I stick to TopTier fuels, and Ethanol free as available (harder when traveling). >50k miles so far.

I've been using 89 octane for one year now. Price is now close to $5 p/g. Am thinking about using 87 instead. Have any of you used 87 from new to current. Everything else I own is on 87 including 454 Chevy motorhome. Thanks

I'm using 89 Octane, at 2.95 a gallon, i have used 87 but didn't really notice much of a difference really.
i guess its just a matter of preference as what you use.
try tossing in a Lucas Oil Brand gas additive once in a while, see how your gas mileage is then while using 87 octane.

Got one right behind my neighborhood, but the price is more than 93. I'll do it every couple tanks.

I have started using E15 88 octane.

I ran 7 tanks in it so far...just put the 8th in last night.

Many road trips and towed the camper last weekend.

My thoughts...it will be the button i push from now on.

It is exactly what it says...right in the middle.

Better performance than 87 and similar performance to 89.

And at 20 cents cheaper than 87 and 50 cents cheaper than 89 I am truly saving about 13 bucks a fill up...so I will take that...

And...it is better for the environment...or farmers...i forget which...lol
