I have the 19' Ram 1500 quad cab 5.7L with 3.21 gears. 7,500 miles. No admins or aftermarket parts. Had first oil change at 5200 miles. This morning I went out to move the truck and it came on but immediately started sputtering and idling terribly. The rpm would go up to a normal startup rpm and then go way down to almost dying, then fluctuated greatly up and down for about 10 seconds. It finally leveled out. I turned the truck off and then turned it back on and it was fine. Never had this happen before. no check engine lights are on or came on. I am not sure if I can take it in and have it looked at without a check engine light. This day in age, dealers and mechanics generally can't find jack without a check engine code telling them where to look. what do y'all think ?

Hmm could be so many different things. Unfortunately I think you will just have to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. Hopefully it reset and won’t reappear. Unless it through a code as you point out, I doubt dealer will be of any help.

I find it a crazy coincidence that you experienced this for the first time this morning...I DID TOO! Exact same issue as you outlined above. I’ll be keeping an eye on it to see if it continues.

Thats wild! Yeah I think I read a few people post about it a little further back in the forums. Ive never owned anything but a Chevy before this so this is all uncharted territory for me. I have noticed many people that experience any issue with the engine on these trucks just say, "that's just a hemi". To which I find that answer a pretty terrible reason. I really don't think the shape of a combustion chamber affects any and all issues related to the 5.7L. GM never says, "psshh, that's just a 5.3" idk, I'm not mad but I will be watching the situation closely.

Hello bneutzler,

I understand why this is concerning. If you end up going into the dealer for an inspection, let us know. We can be contacted in a private message and will forward a case so you'll have an additional layer of assistance while in service.

My 3rd gen did that, when i had a poor negative battery connection. There was also a recall for a loose ground wire a while back i think?

I too have a 2019 5.7 Bighorn and the exact same thing has happened to me twice in the last week. I have 3200 miles on it. There is another thread on this forum that started back in Sept of 18 addressing the same issue. Lots of guys experiencing it. Someone on there did say that there is a TSB from Dodge addressing this very issue but I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

Here’s the link to the other thread. Might be worth checking in on that one as well to see if anyone has resolved this issue we’re having.

Hi Jamminjerry,
We understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

It’s because, since it’s warmer the stumble is when the A/C compressor turns on after starting. The load of the compressor causes the idle to come down and overshoot after then back down, causing the problem you describe. Mine does it I noticed it last year only when warmer when the A/C is needed. If you listen after it starts when cold you can hear the click of the compressor turning on followed by the up and down stumble.

same issue with my 2019 Ram rebel. the dealer i bought it from is making me wait 10 days to get it in to be seen, no offer of a loaner vehicle. when i asked for a loaner they sounded exasperated that I wanted to bring it in before my repair date so I could at least have a vehicle to drive. said it was prolly bad gas and i would most likely end up paying for the loaner. still waiting for my truck to be seen later this week. week and half without a vehicle working vehicle when i purchased new one a year ago sucks.

While there may not have been a Check Engine Lamp (CEL) it doesn't mean there isn't a code set in memory. Mine for some reason has a B2577 stored but never got a CEL.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie and having the same issue. Has about 30k on it and having the same issue. In particular if it sits for 2 days plus it gets much worse. I just bought it off the lease early as I love the truck but I think I’ll have to bring it in for service ASAP. Seems like RamCares actually might care. I will say my Ram died completely in my driveway with 12 miles the day after I bought it and while my dealer was awful Ram helped me get that taken care of. Wish me well though and I’ll follow up after the appointment.

I was using 93 but apparently wife threw in regular. Shouldn’t make that much difference but maybe the back and forth played tricks on it? Anyway dealer found an update … flashed it… all good now. Anyone else I’d call the dealer 1st to see if they have the software patch. I don’t trust my place but allegedly it a fix for 3-5 issues and cold start struggle is one of the fixes

A quick and easy thing you can do is use some gas treatment. Sometimes there's more water accumulation in the gas tank than you may think and it can cause the rough running/idling issues you have and in the cold its worse. If the trucks have sat a while on dealer lots its even more prevalent because the gas tanks are never full so the condensation can build up while they sit.

I have the same issue and it only happens when I remotely start the car and the A/C on. It will go away about 10 seconds.
