I have a 2021 Ram Rebel That I purchased in September 2020, it currently has a around 10,800 miles and it is making similar sound to the video but not nearly as bad. Maybe mine will get this bad with time? I was wondering if there is a for sure fix for this issue before I take it to the dealer, I don't really want to have to make multiple trips since it is a pretty long drive. From the post above it seems like the replacement column is working so I may go ahead and contact them. Mainly wanting to know if there is any reason I should wait or if the consensus is it get fixed easily the first time.

I showed the dealer the TSB when I took mine in, service tech ignored it. Truck sat in their service lot for 2.5 days before being looked at. Technician said, yup, TSB documented the issue. Now I am waiting on a steering column, ~6 days for shipping.

Thanks for the reply. This creaking is very annoying in a new truck. I bought a new truck to have something reliable and not need to be worked on. Got tired of working on 10+ year old vehicles all the time. If I take mine in it will need to be replaced same day, can’t go days without my truck.

I had a F150 with a noise in the steering wheel, turned out it was the clock spring.

Exact same reason I bought a new truck as well! I worked on x2 10+ year old cars. Hard to do with a little kid running around now.

Still haven't heard back from the dealer on whether they have received the steering column. I am going to call and check on it tomorrow.

Hey guys,
I've read alot of threads on steering wheel rattles or abnormal noises from the steering wheel. personally I've been chasing a rattle on the driver side to the point that I've taken the driver side dash apart after the dealer failed to identify / fix the issue (in there defense they did replace the clock spring but that didn't eliminate the issue). So far I've taped up, zip tied and greased up anything loose but still the rattle hasn't gone away. The rattle sounds like a loose plastic washer.

The noise I get while driving is this:

what I've noticed is that I have the following sound emanating from the steering wheel when in ACC mode or EPS not running (I just lightly wiggle the steering wheel):
The sound while driving appears to be a higher frequency version of the above sound.

My question is, does everyone's ram (DT) do the same when the EPS is powered off?

Attached is a copy of the repair order my dealership completed to resolve the clunking and popping sound I was experiencing. Short story: They replaced the sway bar links. So far, no recurrence.

Has the problem returned? I am looking at buying a used 2019 5.7 Bighorn at a dealership in East Dundee and I noticed it made the sound. I could have sworn it was coming from the left end link but I couldn’t verify it in the 3 minutes I was under the truck.

Thank you for responding to my post.

I showed them the TSB some of the people here had posted but they said they would look at the truck since there were no open recalls they could find in the system.

After inspection they thought the clock spring was making the noise and they replaced it but its still making the noise.

They have now ordered something else since they found the noise to be coming from the lower steering shaft area by the firewall that they believe will fix it. My appointment is in a couple weeks from now. We will see if this fixes it or not.

Thanks,
Kyle

Sorry for the late reply. 4,000 miles under a variety of conditions and loads and the problem has not returned.

I have an update form my appointment yesterday. I called the dealer 2 days before the appointment to confirm my appointment and they said if I could get it there first thing they would start on it. So I drop the truck off the day before so they could have it first thing like they asked. So I come to pick it up the next day at the end of day and they inform me they haven't started on it yet. Why make an appointment if you aren't going to fix it? They said bring it back next week and we should have more time. I've now waited 8 weeks and wasted 3 trips (70 mile round trips) to the dealer to still have the same issue I started with.

These dealers nowadays are the absolute worse. I dropped mine off on Wednesday morning this week at 815 for a 9 o’clock appointment only for them to tell me it would take 2-3 business days to look at my truck. Needed to have my FCW and ACC recalibrated after having my windshield replaced and get them to look at the clicking steering wheel that has come back after they replaced my clock spring earlier this year. As of today they had just hooked it up to the machine for calibration and said it would take a few hours at least. So now my truck will be there through next week.

I agree it’s ridiculous that the service is this bad. The dealership just expects me to drive it to them for an appointment and then not work on it? That is ridiculous, it was a pain to not have a vehicle for one day let alone multiple days. Lucky my wife had a day she was able to work from home and I drove her jeep. Best part of the story is after I got the truck he said I could bring it back next week and they would get to it if they have time, when I explained the earliest I could be there was 2pm after work he rolled his eyes and was mad and said that’s not enough time. I can’t just not go to work, and my wife can’t just change her work schedule for their convenience either so I’m not sure what to do now.

Hey guys,
I've posted on the issue of a rattle coming from what seems to be behind the steering wheel - I just wanted to post an update on here detailing all steps taken to resolve this issue (or atleast almost resolve).

If you've:
1. checked all the TSB's
2. Replaced the horn pad
3. Replaced the steering shaft
4. checked all loose cables / modules
and still have the rattle well atleast in my case it was the steering intermediate shaft - although the dealer is still waiting on parts they tightened up the Intermediate shaft and the rattle was almost gone not only that even the grinding while turning had almost disappeared as well.

Also the TSB for grinding was applied to my truck prior to working on the Intermediate shaft but the grinding still remained and only went away after they worked on the Intermediate shaft.

Got my steering column replaced yesterday at a different dealer than I was working with before and so far all the noise is gone, hopefully never to return.

I have a brand new 2021 RAM Rebel truck with 400 miles on it and the steering wheel is driving me crazy.
When I turn it there is a clicking sound. I have seen people have post things about this but I have not seen a answer to fix the problem.
I did take it to a dealer a the said they greased it up and it would better in a few days, needless to say that didnt work at all.

Your help would greatly appreciated. This is very frustrating on a brand new truck
Had this same thing. Had my 2021 ram 1500 limited less than 3 years now and they are replacing the steering column for the second time.
