I have a brand new 2021 RAM Rebel truck with 400 miles on it and the steering wheel is driving me crazy.
When I turn it there is a clicking sound. I have seen people have post things about this but I have not seen a answer to fix the problem.
I did take it to a dealer a the said they greased it up and it would better in a few days, needless to say that didnt work at all.

Your help would greatly appreciated. This is very frustrating on a brand new truck

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you are not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you decide to address this further with your Ram dealer, please be sure to follow up with us via private message. We would be more than willing to escalate your situation to a specialist who can work alongside you and your dealer while your truck is in service.

I have the exact same issue. 2021 Laramie. It drives me insane. It’s a click/creak that even the slightest movement of the wheel produces. Started about 1 month after purchase / 2k mi. It’s driving me insane.

Just had a chance to respond to your message, @Dcg1215!
Same here. Only happens when I turn the wheel to the right.
Sorry to hear this, @Green Streak. Please know that we are a private message away and more than willing to get you connected with a specialist for further support as you work with your dealer on this.

If it’s a creaking sound, could be the bearing/bushing. If it’s a clicking sound, likely the clockspring (could also be the turn signal return). Had the clicking on a previous pickup, turned out to be the clockspring.

I have the same problem 2020 1500 with 3k miles. I was told it is a bad bearing, and it is known problem. So far I had my steering column replaced, fixed the problem. Noise came back and getting the replacement steering column replaced. See how it goes after this.

I have this same issue- slight clicking sound / feel when turning off center. It's worse to the left than the right, but happens both directions. Started as one click, now it's multiple clicks. Truck has 1,500 miles on it / 2 months old.

Spoke to the service department at Uptown Ram here in Dallas and they said it's a "known issue with the auto steer with no fix yet" but this doesn't match up with the multiple posts here saying it's the clock spring.

@RamCares - Can you shed any light on this? Is it a known issue without a fix or more likely the clock spring? I have an appointment 12/15 to have it inspected.

Update: I just got my truck back..... they swapped the part but didnt seem to fix the problem. Dealer is having to get a hold of Chrysler engineering so I am going to have to wait until after the new year. At least I have the truck back for the holidays.

That’s disappointing to,hear. Just had my new Limited diagnosed with a bad clock spring, they are back ordered for at least 45 days.

Search the forums for creaking and you will find another thread on this.

How does a clock spring go bad?

Mine went in yesterday for a repair on this issue. The noise is gone. (y)

Per the work order, they replaced:

68254102AB "Column-Steering" - appears to be the bulk of the interior portion of the steering column (1 in diagram)
68275003AD "Bearing-Steering" - possibly the bearing that rests in the firewall (6 in diagram)

Work took a few hours, in and out same day at Uptown Ram in Dallas. The column was in-stock, the bearing took a few days to arrive once they ordered it.

My guess is that the steering column assembly also contains the clock spring, but I can't tell from the diagram.

Hope this is helpful for those that are waiting on parts / repairs.
