Thinking about trading in my 2019 RAM Loaded Limited for a loaded 2021 with HUD and all the bells and whistles. The F150's start to show up in early December and they look super nice too. Anyone have any thoughts on the topic?

Not enough changes to draw me in. Maybe if new powertrains and UConnect 5 were available, but even then...I’m much more curious to see what happens with electrification over the next 3-5 years.

Edit: If I were thinking of going bigger, an F-250 Platinum or King Ranch with the big gasser could be an option.

F-150 Platinum came in a VERY CLOSE SECOND. I think Platinum has some more interesting options than the Limited (including the diesel, which I honestly thought was a gasser when I test drove one).

For me - Multi-Function Tailgate & 12" Display.

Looking at the new model - they're pretty much a dead heat.

But unless they changed the interior significantly - I found the Ram to feel roomier, I like the center console a lot better and the interior just seems a little more luxurious.

Like I said - very very close second. When I was shopping - the Ram was the first truck I test drove (having never actually driven a full size pickup objectively) - so everything else I drove was a comparison to the Ram (which still come out on top).

Thanks RS...however, the 2021 F150 is nothing like the 2020. I think it's going to be a VERY close call.

I too am intrigued by the 2021 F-150s, but it would be tough to give up the MFT and the Ramboxes. The MFT was something I didn’t know if I’d like when I got my ‘20 limited but it’s so convenient. I hardly open my tailgate traditionally these days because barn door style makes life so much easier. If Ford comes out with something similar for the F-150 I’d be more inclined to consider a swap.

Not enough changes from a 19-21. Sure HUD is cool enough but IMO not worth trading in and probably losing money on the deal. I would keep what you have unless your going with something else.

Looking to go from white to a Midnight Black package. HUD's just a bonus but not the sole reason.

I specifically look for RAM's without ram boxes. They warp and look like crap. Until RAM fixes that and changes vendors, no ram boxes for me. The MFT is interesting, but not an option I would go out of my way to find on my next truck.

I felt the same way till I got a truck that has the MFT.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t buy a truck that didn’t have it in the future, but if everything else is more or less equal and the main difference came down to a truck with the MFT or one without, I would get the truck with the MFT 10 times outta 10.

You don't know what you're missing if you've never had the rambox option. In which case I could understand why you feel this way. Having used them before, I can live with the misalignment due to the versatility and usefulness of them. It's not just the bed side boxes, it's also the bed divider/extender. I can live with how they look. After all, for me at least, it's a truck not a show car.

^^Copy that. At first I thought Ram just came out with the MFT to compete with GMC. But having a truck with it I won't buy another truck without it as long as they keep offering it. Or unless someone comes up with something better. The MFT/rambox combination is ideal for us.

I am an anal engineer and the misalignment of the ram box doors would drive me crazy...especially when you are spending $60-$70K on a loaded truck! If they would go back to making them out of aluminum versus composite, the issue would go away.

Theres gotta be a 3rd party market here, some aluminum replacements for the plastic trim or carbon fiber?

If I was swapping trucks right now, I'd be owning an F150. I've been going back and forth for about 12 years, maybe more. I wouldn't buy another Ram. Not because I'm unhappy with it because it is virtually the same as what I have. I like the new F150 interior and I'm fine with the exterior. But now fully retired and now having to rely on the stock market and Social Security for income I'm trying to hold on to my trucks a little longer. Plus, I'm not bored with the Ram yet.

I hear ya and fully understand. I've had an F150, 2 GMC Sierra Denali's and now the RAM. I am not unhappy, I just get rid of vehicles every 2 years or so and upgrade. I bounce back and forth between truck and sports cars. It's a disease that my doctor said was incurable. I like to have the latest and greatest technology and get bored very quickly. I do like what Ford has done to the F150 interior. The only thing that was keeping me from getting another Ford was the interior. Now, for 2021, I think Ford one-upped the RAM with it's interior and its capabilities. I am very interested in seeing one live and taking it out for a drive in early December when they start arriving.

My recommendation would be to give them a test drive and feel them out for yourself.

When I bought my Ram, I bought it for the ride and all of the interior creature comforts. Ford definitely has the numbers, but I liked that the Ram had a very proven powertrain (no direct injection, no finnicky cam phasers, etc.), and would definitely be the most comfortable day to day and on long trips. Air suspension won me over in the test drive, but I've appreciated it even more after owning it a while

If you're looking for the top payload, top towing numbers, F150 wins hands down. If you're looking for something comfortable day to day but can still haul toys/ supplies/ whatever on the weekend, the decision is more complicated.

For this next generation Ford, IMO it'll really come down to how much they've stepped up the interior over the outgoing generation, and how much technology you're willing to take on with a first year model. I really like the PowerBoost hybrid, but in general there's always something that the engineers didn't quite get right the first time. For the Ram it might be poor AC, but with a 3.6kW generator you never know if that bug happens to be an affinity for lighting your garage on fire. That's obviously unlikely since safety is always the top priority, but my point is that more technology generally means more pesky bugs.

At this point for me, the infotainment is the biggest differentiator. I keep seeing issues with the Ram 12“ screen, but the F150’s will be brand new so I’m sure it’ll have its share of issues.
right now I’m trying to see what I can reasonable expect to get fiscounted on the 2021‘s of both trucks... or wait till next sep to let the F150 shake out the issues first.

Great note my friend. I don't tow at all...my trucks are just BIG TOYS!

You are correct in that the F150 will debut the new SYNC 4. I can certainly wait another year...I only have 9950 miles on my RAM and it's MINT CONDITION. I'm just not sure what I want to do yet.

He's obviously not concerned with payload if he's got (and planning on another) a fully loaded Limited. Just from his sig I'd say his payload is below 1200 pounds.

To OP: Test drive them. I was fully set on buying another Titan until I sat in a new Rebel. Didn't want to pay the extra $5000 to have FORD written across the front of my truck, and GM/Chevy/Tundra the interiors were terrible. Still test drove the Titan, but they did not fix the 3 or 4 complaints I had, and the Ram checked all the boxes.

You never know - there are plenty of "well, I don't tow right now, but I want to tow ___ some day so I went ahead and bought a dually" people out there. :ROFLMAO:

Realistically, even a 1200 pound payload truck *can* haul much more than that... just not comfortably. I brought that up in the event that he (or someone else in the same boat) is on the fence hasn't realized that the F150 isn't just a little more payload, it's more like double. Obviously that's not really a factor for the OP based on his responses; just wanted to clarify.
