Oddly enough, I can't make mine show any signs of drivetrain slack by forcing the truck into 2nd gear and speeding up/slowing down aggressively and abruptly. If there was slack, I'd feel a bump. Nothing. Smooth as butter.

But when I'm slowing down to a stop light and the truck is downshifting and holding maybe 1200 to 1400 rpm and the light changes, as soon as I apply power I get a bump.

I think the issue is programming related.

Hello everyone first time on this site and first ever owned Ram 1500. Only has 400 miles and already 3 times it would no move when shifted into drive from park position, was not the ebrake. Happens when hot or cold. I just moved it and I actually heard something clicking/engaging from underneath before it went into drive and it wasn’t smooth as most times it is, door was closed. Hoping someone can chime in, I heard maybe a flash will fix but not sure. Thanks and happy holidays
I just bought a Ram with that same issue. The truck had 200 miles on it when it first occurred. its at the dealer at this very moment. They called me friday and told me they are going to put a new transmission in it. I am not a happy customer at this moment. I don't want the truck. I think they need to give me a different truck. One that wasn't built on a Friday afternoon...

Same exact issue with mine...New tranny is going in this week.... Make sure you create a case with the FCA in order to receive some type of compensation.

Hi Dave peterson,
We regret to hear about your experience. Has a case been opened on the customer care side to add additional assistance? If not, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to begin this process!

Hi , my new 19 bighorn started doing it with 500 miles same thing as yours , a few times now still has under 1000 miles ! I took it in to dealer and got treated like an idiot! No it’s fine there’s no lights on or codes stored ! Oh and the best part is they never heard of it ! Yeh right ! When that thing slams into drive something bad is happening in transmission but they don’t care ! They just make us feel like we aren’t smart enough to put it in gear properly ! What a stupid knob thing anyways! What was wrong with a lever that was tried and true ! Good luck with yours hopefully that fixes it , I wouldn’t even want a brand new truck that a bunch of shop guys changed tranny in , it’ll never be the same as brand new again !

My truck is fixed now with ZERO issues. The lever and the knob still accomplish the same task...either way its an electronic shifter although I do miss the shifter on the column in my 3rd gen.

Just got my 2019 BigHorn 8 days ago. And on test drive it wouldn't go, then BAM!! Slammed into gear. Figured it was a stuck brake. But it has happened 5 times in 8 days. Dealer seems be ignoring my issue. Already mentioned I will bring it back for a different one, again felt ignored. Can't be without a truck for my job, and can't understand why the dealer just didn't say will give you a different one on the second day owning when I mentioned issue again. This is my 3rd RAM started with a 2014. Don't fail me now.

Create a case with the FCA ASAP...Go above the dealer

Update: Truck in 5/10-11 they couldn't duplicate issue, told to pick up truck. 5/12 happened again. 5/13 back at dealer, this time got rental. 5/20 dealership calls and asks if I can come in and try to get it to happen. Came in to dealership, service tech brought truck to me and tried to get it to happen, and of course it did, but he's not at shop. UGH!! My time wasted again. So today I get call from case manager that they are going to replace transmission, But it's back-ordered FML. So another week or so in a rental that you can't do Sh!t with, due to contract. Anyways, rental will be paid by FCA and at least 1 truck payment reimbursed(hopefully more). Trying to get dealer to compensate something as well(spray in liner etc) or lose a long time customer. Said to dealer, keep the truck and I will keep the rental(2019 1500 Bighorn Classic) Didn't go over well. New trans better fix or I will lose my patience.

The dealer is not gonna do anything for you....what you need to do is push the FCA for any kind of compensation you’re looking for. One suggestion like they did for me was they gave me a seven year 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty which makes me feel a lot better because I had to get the new transmission as well. Now I can sleep better and I was suggest you get more compensation than just one month truck payment.

I'm getting a new transmission as well....Mine didn't do it every time but I took a video and showed the service manager at my dealer.
Hi, I just got my new ram last Saturday. We had the same start-jump issue when we test the truck but we thought it might be our driving problem, at least that was what the sales guy told us so. Today first day to work, it was fine in the morning but out of lunch it happened again, now I am pretty sure there is something wrong for my new truck. Then I found this thread, kinda too late since I paid off the truck already. Well this happens only randomly, I don't want to take it to my dealership and they kick me out because they can not repeat the problem over there. You said you took a video and showed them, can you tell me more detail how to take that video to prove the problem does exist? Also do you think it is a better idea to open a case with RAM before I go to my dealership for a repair?

Take a video the next time it happens to show the service manager and also open a case with the FCA via Ram Chat
