Try the clamp, it's a <$10 fix and it won't hurt anything. If you have the blend door defect, there is nothing you can do with the controls to get around it.

It's good for stop lights too. Hold the brake for 2 seconds then release and the truck stays put. The dash brake light will blink until you press the gas pedal. Pretty smooth. You can also kill the horn honk you get when you leave the truck running and exit with the keys.
