Yup I'm with ya! No way I'm dropping that much on a CAI regardless of the cool factor. Hell, for not much more you can have a true ram air hood with an intake tied into it.
Thanks! Seems like a lot of people like the S&B from what I've read. I'm planning on running a mishimoto catch can. I think it mounts to the front off the back side of the radiator, so I thought that should clear.
About the pull the trigger on a CAI. I'm stuck between S&B and Volant. I know many of you have S&B's. Not sure anyone has a Volant yet? Help me decide fellas!
Been looking for someone with it on a 5th gen with no luck. Based on all the videos I've seen on the 4th gen version and comparing that to my experience with the R (with and without Resonators) I personally think the TR without Resonators would sound perfect on these trucks. I'm considering...
I just bought the R muffler by itself and tips separate. Imo tips are definitely worth the money. Does change the sound for the better vs stock tips and they look far better too. Had my muffler shop put the muffler on, I put the tips on myself. It's the same exact thing as cut and clamp for less...
Without resonators it's as loud as it gets on cold starts imo. You could easily hear it from anywhere inside my house with all the doors and windows closed including from the basement. With resonators on it's not bad at all.
Wondering if anyone has tried the TR series without resonators? I guess the TR is suppose to be a little toned down from the R. Maybe a middle ground so to speak. I don't totally hate the sound with resonators but it definitely doesn't sound as pure imo. For $99 I may give it a try...
Hmmmm man idk that's weird. I don't get any popping sounds at all. Did you check from the headers all the way back and the seal? There's really nothing to the Carven R muffler itself, almost a straight pass through. If nothing else you could remove the resonators and see what you get.
Could just be break in too! I've noticed the sound has changed a little bit (more refined not so poppy now). Maybe from sealing the weep holes? I didn't seal mine.
I did a custom version of this (Carven R muffler and tips). I deleted the resonators when I installed and it sounded badass. Unfortunately my wife hated riding in it at that point (was very loud in the cab) so I put the resonators back on. I don't think it sounds weird at all and I've got a ton...
Better ball joint angle and articulation. My understanding is that it's not critical unless you're doing a lot of off roading. If you want them you can also go with Ready Lift, Tuff Country or Rough Country UCA's which are a little cheaper.
I'd bet money if the majority on here were to hold out we'd see that price drop to the 6-7 range. Throw in a nice coupon and boom we're in the 5ish range lol
No doubt! Don't get me wrong, I spend lol wouldn't be driving this truck if I didn't. I guess I'm just the type that's always weighing cost > value in everything I do. I was planning on getting the S&B but I really do like the Ram Air. So I'm just gonna spend money on the other stuff I want for...
I gotta say! Ya'll who've bought this already sure are dedicated lol. No way I couldn't justify that cost without seeing actual dyno results. But to each their own. This is the one mod I'm gonna hold out on for now. Sure looks awesome though!
Thought Id share for anyone looking to do it. Just had a Carven R muffler installed and resonators deleted. Haven't added the tips yet, might do that next week. I really couldn't justify spending $700 plus for a cat back or even $300 for a cut and clamp when I could just pick up the same muffler...
