We’ve done a few long trips with our camper. Longest was 2-1/2 months to the desert Southwest. We average 3-4 nights per stop.
On travel days we like to leave by 9 am and travel no more than 300 miles. We generally stay as long as we want. Once we’ve arrived we’ve always been able to extend...
The 3.21 will be fine for towing your boat. More than adequate for 6000lbs, it’s rated for over 8000. I’d have no concerns for the towing you described.
There should be a sticker on the bottom of the rear axle showing the gear ratio. Also you can just look at your rpm’s as you’re driving down...
I raise/lower the air suspension often when hitching/unhitching my trailer with no issues. 840 tongue weight + 80 hitch + whatever is in the bed (usually less than 150).
A lot will depend on your comfort factor, how long the trailer is and how fast you want to tow.
Longer trailers are more susceptible to sway at highway speeds. Try to stay under 30’ overall trailer length for best results with a half ton.
The faster you tow the more likely you are to...
Doing some Florida camping near Orlando. We’re in Wekiwa Springs state park. Full hookups and $24/night . Visiting with our son and his expecting wife. Waiting for the birth of our first grandchild any day now.
It’s 250 miles from home. Still impressed how well this combination tows. Got only 9...
I would have taken the heavier hitch if your trailer has a dry tongue weight of 750-800#. Loaded up for camping you could easily be at or over 1000# plus the weight of the hitch itself and any stuff in the bed. That’s a lot of weight for these lightly sprung trucks. I think the 14k hitch would...
I think there are a few of us waiting for some honest reviews. I’d be interested to hear some in-depth impressions on:
- sound differences, maybe with sound clips
- throttle response
- 0-60 times before/after
- mpg
- intake air temperature difference
Does the lid completely seal the unit from engine bay air? From your photos I can see a seal between the main filter base and the lid. But at the back of the base, on the drivers side, it looks like the seal ends and that there’s an opening? Maybe just the way the picture is taken.
Not saying that your hitch is to blame but the pro pride and Hensley hitches eliminate sway. Also they won’t affect ride/handling when not towing.
If the truck suspension/tires were the issue then most Ram 1500 owners that tow would have a sway problem. I am not experiencing sway at interstate...
I don’t have any sway issues with our 26’ camper With a Blue Ox Swaypro hitch. If I had the sway issues you described I would bite the bullet and just buy a Pro Pride or Hensley hitch and be done. Sway solved.
I have my front windows 70% and the windshield 90% tinted with 3M Crystalline. Definitely slows how fast the interior heats up when parked and speeds cooling when running.
One interesting thing with this tint, my wife has prescription eyeglasses with Transitions lenses that automatically...
