Key fob programming

Vlinker is a PITA with iPhone. I could never see the device in Bluetooth settings.
For iPhone, you only need to make sure Bluetooth in on. It’s not intended to show up in the list. Then, in JScan app, you select auto connect to Bluetooth low energy.

Not yet. It can do the 2019+ HD Rams, but apparently the technical process is slightly different for the DT RF Hub, so he’s still working on it
How do you find the 5 digit pin for a 3500? Alfa obd says its a rolling pin? Can i get the pin without going to the dealer? Oh and I really appreciate all the help you gave me on my digital cluster upgrade everything went smooth!!!

JScan. AFAIK, AlfaOBD isnt yet able to pull PIN so therefore use JScan to program a FOB.

FOB programming is the only thing you need that PIN for.

PIN reading failed on my 1500 '23 with Veepeak OBD no matter what I tried. I ordered Vgate iCar Pro 2S which arrives tomorrow and will give it another shot. Anyone had luck with this adapter by chance? Trying to avoid shelling out $140 for MX+.

Current best price/feature reader recommended is vGata vLinker MC+@$59. Did my keys with one.

Not sure that cheaper (older) adapter is supported.

Pro 2S looks to be a beefier version of Vgate Pro recommended by JScan. I will report back if that one is a success.

MC+ worked like a charm - read PIN from the first try (just turned hazards on) and programmed 6-key FOBIK (no need to depress unlock). Thanks everyone!

Did you try the Pro 2S or just cancel/return?

Thanks to this thread I was able to program a second FOB for my 2023 Longhorn I just picked up. Took me a few tries until I realized I needed to push the top of the FOB to the Start button while following the programming procedure. Thanks again!

I need help. I have a 22 2500 tradesman, and I am trying to program a 3rd key fob. I purchased a 2500 remote from eBay (one recommended in one of the threads)and using J scan along with a bypass cable program it. I was able to get my PIN, but have not been able to get it to program my fob. The instructions state I need to have the truck off and keep the key near the center console, and press the unlock button every other second. I have tried every combo and no luck. I have tried holding it near the start button, pressing the truck's unlock button, and every other variation I could think of. When I try and program it, after about 30 seconds, I get "programming of ignition FOBIK fail or timed out. Restart the routine and try again." Can anyone give me the secret sauce to get this right?

Running a bypass cable and Veepeak OBDcheck Bluetooth OBD II scanner

I used this vendor for the key fob. Pardon Our Interruption...

Also I left the bypass cable connected and have a CEL that won't clear. I assume I need to unplug it once I am done.
I about went crazy before I re-interpreted the JScan instructions to say I have to actually touch the key fob to the start button in the truck during the process, and once I did that the app continued the programming flow.

I tried that with no luck. Did you press any buttons while touching it to the start button? Did you use the fob to press the start button? I feel like I have tried all the ways you can do it lol

With the top end of the FOB touching/pressing into the trucks’s start button I also pressed the button on the FOB.

I'm out of luck, I guess. I have tried everything and keep getting the time out error. I might need to order another fob and see if its just the fob.

You could also go to hdrams.com and try to get help there. This is a 5rh Gen RAM 1500 forum. The 2500 is not a 5th gen, so procedure is different .

You're good on the FOB, those are the ones I used.

Are you pressing unlock every other second, or every second? Thanks @Jimmy07 for reminding me it's a single press. I've slept since.

I don't know if anyone's used that reader for a FOB program...

I don't think hdrams threads are going to help, most are (long) about adding remote start to poverty trims with some FOB programming tossed in here and there. It's all documented here in this thread.

Did you look at post 109? (as in don't turn on the truck)

My only thought on the reader was that it would allow me to access the pin, so it would make sense that it should allow it to program. Might need to try a different reader, I guess.

The truck was off as it wouldn't allow it to move forward with the truck in the ACC or run position.

Do the hazards need to be on when programming the key fobs? I saw that for the pin, but nowhere about it in the key programming.
Thanks for the help.

I’m not too sure about that vepeek, but a couple things to make sure for the HD Rams:
- Try making sure there is no other valid fob near the truck, only the one being programmed.
- Don’t press the start button with the fob, and don’t repeatedly hit the unlock button. Just press the unlock button once after you start the process when it prompts you.
- Leave the hazards off for the fob programming

Thanks for the tips and I feel like I have done all of that many times. I have ordered a different Vlinker MC+ so we will see if that helps.
