My PPE transmission pan: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I’ve got about 10k miles on the fluid change and PPE swap. I didn’t use the spacers (figured it was there mostly to prevent cracking or distortion of the plastic pan). I used a Felpro gasket and it looked like the spacers wouldn’t allow the gasket to be compressed fully. No leaks and no other issues so far.

I thought it was shifting into reverse and drive little slower initially but it was probably just me being overly interested since I just serviced it.

Finally got a big tow in with hot temps. On flat land loaded at highway speed it runs about 3° cooler.

I know this is an old thread, but just purchased the +2qt PPE pan, two gaskets (straight from Mopar), and 7 quarts of ZF Lifeguard Fluid 8 and planning to do the pan swap one of the upcoming weekends. I chose the best price I could find for most of the parts including finding a deal straight from Mopar instead of going through KLM Performance. I wanted to buy through KLM who list having a military discount in their "About" section, but I sent them an email a few days ago to inquire and they haven't replied.

PPE Order - $337.04 after 10% Military Discount (GovX):
- 1x Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan - Deep (Raw) - $319.99
- 1x 8HP70 PPE Transmission Pan Filter - $29.99 (spare for later)

USP Motorsports order - $113.47:
- ZF Lifeguard Fluid 8 - $15.15/qt

Mopar.com order - $65.86:
- 2x Oil Pan Gasket - 68172556AA - $22.95 (one spare for later)

TOTAL: $516.37 with tax and shipping.

I'm also using this as an excuse to go buy myself a new jack and jack stands since I need to level the truck and lift the transmission a bit for clearance. I've gotten away with not needing a jack/stands for oil changes and other basic maintenance but no getting around this one without them.

Use a bottle jack on top of some spare 4x4 wood pieces to lift the trans enough to remove the mount. Use the jack on the rear differential to get the rear up enough to have the truck leveled and rear wheels off the ground. Use jack stands on the sides of the diff. You may need to lift the front as well or use wood pieces underneath the front wheels.

Thanks! I have some leftover 4x4's from another project so adding a cheap bottle jack should do the trick. My driveway slope is noticeable but nothing crazy, so I think just lifting the rear a couple inches should make it level enough to properly fill.

Amazon has the best price for the PPE pan. I can't find it on GovX, just the cheaper knock off pan.

Lift from under the rear differential to get tires off the ground, needed for proper full procedure. If you haven't leveled the front suspension, as mentioned, you may need to lift the front up some as well. Some people love them, But I've never been a fan of bottle jacks. Not a large enough footprint to be stable, IMO. Especially when lifting a higher sitting truck. I have one of the Harbor Freight 3-ton Daytona jacks that works awesome, and some larger 6-ton Jack stands. need the bigger Jack stands for these trucks. My smaller 3-ton ones wouldn't go high enough. Ordered off Amazon.

Yeah I would still use an actual jack to lift the truck.. cheap bottle jack just to lift the trans.

PPE not charge sales tax?

I use Amazon a lot. Free same day to 2-day shipping cant be beat, and their prices on most items are cheaper. Catch sales or discounts for even more savings or shop the warehouse deals on returned items.
$26.99 for the spare filter, $288 for the pan, and $22.05 for tax with free shipping.

Ordered Sunday and should deliver on Friday.

SO a few bucks cheaper than Amazon. Not everyone gets the GovX discount though. I probably would have ordered direct from PPE had I know they had that when I got mine.
