Hey. I just installed the bakflip mx4 cover on my ram 1500 with rambox and mft. It looks good but there are two large gaps that will certainly allow water in. Attached are pics showing the gaps. Is this just a design flaw or am I missing something? I guess I could install weather stripping or something else but does anyone have any advice? Is there some product that is ideal for fixing this and sealing the gap that looks decent? Is this a flaw with the cover? What do guys think?

I have the same setup, ended up going this route “link below” and I’d say it is 95% water tight now, but not 100.

ESI Ultimate Tailgate Seal with Taper Seal Compatible with RAM 1500 with RamBox https://a.co/d/aO9WHs5

Thanks for the advice a little frustrating that you spend $1k on a cover and then have to spend another $30 to jerry rig a solution so it functions as intended. They should either fix this in design or provide the necessary products in package to solve the problem.

did you guys have to install different brackets for the mft? i was being told the only way this cover will work and not damage the mft is by changing them out. just curious what you have found

If you have the ram boxes, there is no need to change the brackets with mft, works perfect.

This. There are no brackets when you have RamBoxes (whether you have have a MFT or not). Brackets are only to shore up non-RamBox beds.
thanks for the clarification everyone

Call it a design flaw if you want. I don't think the design ever intended to try and make the bed waterproof. Water will come in all around the sides. The silver bed rails don't do anything to seal up and keep water from coming down the sides, either.

I just pack my bed accordingly. And I use a commercial door mat that is grooved as a bed mat. That holds stuff up off the bed floor just a bit. So, water that comes in around the sides can run down into the bed grooves under the bed mat (and out the bed drains) and also into the grooves in the bed mat itself. Thus, sort of holding my cargo up a little bit where it's not sitting in the water that does get in the bed.

I had one of these in my truck for the last 3 years. From Home Depot. I just got a new one for my new truck. They are up to $40 now. The old one was still fully intact, so I put it in, too, with the new one on top, for extra cushioning of stuff in the back. It works REALLY well for keeping stuff in the back from sliding around.

To fit in a 5' 7" bed with RamBoxes, it just takes cutting one end off about 5". Easy to do with a box cutter or utility knife with a fresh blade. I cut mine off, then turn it around, so my not-totally-perfect cut is up against the front wall of the bed and what you see when you open the tailgate looks nice. The width of it is perfect for a bed with RamBoxes.

These mats are not super tough. If you drag something across it that catches, it can rip it without too much difficulty. But, at $40, I don't really care. And, in 3 years, I only ripped mine once. It didn't tear a chunk out, either. Just made a triangular rip that was still attached on one side, so it still layed in place and you can't even see it unless you pick the mat up.

top notch. thank you sir.

maybe a stupid question but do you think you need a piece on the left side of the tailgate in that small gap?

I thought about that when first coming up with a plan for installing, but ultimately did not see a need as the water comes down, hits the seal, and just runs down out the bottom of the bed.
