Nope youre fine, the torque converter just dissipated the energy since the wheels didn’t turn. It would be nice if the truck gave a warning when putting it into drive with the parking brake still on, I’ve done that a couple times

It didn't damage anything, but it should have released automatically if you shifted into drive or reverse and your seatbelt was fastened.

I think you can set it that way or have it so it must be manually released.

No damage, I've done it many times, like 3 this week and it's only Tuesday. The engine doesn't strain at all, feels as if the transmission stays in "neutral"

Yep seatbelt is the key. No seat belt, no auto release.

No manual release setting. Auto set is an option to set the parking brake manually or automatically, but it automatically releases IF the seat belt is connected, no option for a manual release.

I actually do not like this feature and put my seat belt on last. I drive several vehicles and do not want to carry over or develop a habit where I do not release the parking brake manually.
