One BIG bump (like a rough railroad crossing), and you may decide you really like it!

But if I hook up the camper and load the truck up for vacation with the family and it tells me it's not going to air up because we're a bit over payload I'm going to start looking for ways to lighten the truck, which will be frustrating.

@MrHankbot any trips planned soon or a dry run. Very anxious to know what you come up with. Since we have similar thoughts about the 1500 2500 debate

We'll pull it out for a weekend soon, but my big fear is once we add a 100lb generator to the mix and really load up for a summer vacation. Kinda crazy that we lose over 100lbs of payload with the 1500 vs our 2017 Pilot. I'm on the search now for lightweight hitches to help cut weight where I can.

I'll be honest, if I was doing it over I might have gotten the Longhorn with coils and Timbrens or bags so I didn't have to worry about the suspension just deciding not to work. If I never have an issue with payload I'll be happy as is, but........

Well, I would say you could loadthe truck up with the 100lbs you lost over the pilot and the truck will perform better.

I don't know if you seen my other post, but when searching for an answer to another members question, I came across info that the air suspension was rated for 2000lbs...no confirmation though.

So since we haven't seen a Ram with over 1800ish...I an thinking your setup might fall right into the parameters.

I saw that too, my fear is that it's like the 1840lbs of payload* where it's on a bare bones truck, and so we've lost a big chunk of that 2000lbs with all the extra gear on our optioned out Limiteds and Longhorns.

As long as I never get the overweight message if I'm just 100-150lbs over my 1300lb payload, then all is well. Obviously I'll be working to avoid that situation, but it's a truck, it was bought to work hard when we need it to.

I've been looking for the image, but there's one floating around of a guy with a 4th Gen ram with air suspension, and I want to say he has like 2000lbs+ in the bed. It's a bunch of 70lb boxes, enough to make you think, "Hey man Idk if I would do that if I were you." It's a dark blue Ram, Laramie I think.

It will load with more than it says it will, but I personally would stay within the GAWR parameters.

Big Horn, 5,7 no E-tork, 392 diff with e-locker, air suspension, level 2 , tow package, no spray in bed liner, no front bucket seats, no sun roof , no skid plates ,

For comparison, this 2019 F150 Limited has under 1100lbs payload and a very high price tag.



A good friend's Gen4 ram rebel's doorsticker is 825lbs.
And the air suspension will level with more than that alone in the back.
I have seen a doorsticker for a Gen4 ram sport on 22in wheels with one that says 727lbs, IIRC.

Supposedly there are ford raptors floating around with 660-720lbs payload.
I wish I had the link, but I believe it was one of the major truck reviewers actually weighed the thing vs the GVWR and tried to gloss over it in the review.

Here is what happens:
-GVWR is set
-you have your basepickup
-as you add options the truck gets heavier
-the remainder is your payload
-certain options are heavy. Pano sunroof, ramboxes, skidplates, even the air suspension adds weight
-some tire/wheel options IIRC take down the GVWR a little, I think this was the case in gen4
