2021 RAM LIMITED or 2021 F150 PLATINUM or LIMITED?

Thinking about trading in my 2019 RAM Loaded Limited for a loaded 2021 with HUD and all the bells and whistles. The F150's start to show up in early December and they look super nice too. Anyone have any thoughts on the topic?

Totally missed that you were thinking of going from a 19 to a 21. Thought you were just thinking of jumping ship to an F-150.

Since you already have a loaded Limited - I really don't think there's enough differences in the Ram 21, to justify the dump (even with the fact that used Rams seem to be going for almost as much as what people paid out the door for theirs lately - more of a COVID supply related thing than anything else likely).

Then again - if the 21 F-150 REALLY GRABS YOUR NADS that much - it's something to consider (all things being equal). I usually upgrade every 4 years - typically based on running up 100K in 4 - and my previous vehicles extended warranties only running to 120K (plus trade-in values go down over 100K). Those 4 years, usually gets a "mid-generation upgrade" in a model. The Honda Pilot I was driving at the time - upgraded NOTHING - so it was time to look elsewhere.

I've never owned a Ford ANYTHING. In fact - this last time around was the first time I had ever actually BEEN IN A FORD DEALERSHIP (kinda creepy for me, being a chevy guy).

I would have considered a Durango this time around - but it was even more cramped than the Pilot I was coming out of (being an SUV kinda guy). The "rumored" Grand Wagoneer for 22 catches my eye - but with a price tag approaching $100K for a model equipped similar to my Limited - not sure I'm going to get there either...

He's obviously not concerned with payload if he's got (and planning on another) a fully loaded Limited. Just from his sig I'd say his payload is below 1200 pounds.

To OP: Test drive them. I was fully set on buying another Titan until I sat in a new Rebel. Didn't want to pay the extra $5000 to have FORD written across the front of my truck, and GM/Chevy/Tundra the interiors were terrible. Still test drove the Titan, but they did not fix the 3 or 4 complaints I had, and the Ram checked all the boxes.

Funny - the Titan was the ONLY TRUCK I didn't even bother test driving. I found to to be SO UNIMPRESSIVE, I just didn't bother. I was interested in the XD - but again. I looked at it, sat in it - and FELT NOTHING.

Mine was driven by the fact that my 2008, with a few upgrades, had comparable HP/torque numbers to current gen competitors (400-ish), ran amazingly for a 12 year old truck with 155k, and I was familiar with Nissan mechanicals. Did not trust Ram's transmission until I saw it had the 8 speed in it. But yeah, I sat in it and was just completely unimpressed. The "tech" they provide limits you more than anything else they claim it does.

I'm not as familiar with Ford's Sync, but I was not insanely impressed with my uncle's 2018 F-150. Plus V6... meh.

I was really excited by the idea of a Nissan "5/8 Ton truck" - Cummins V8, beefy frame, etc. without the crazy bulk of modern 3/4 tons ...but when it came out and only had an 11-12.7k towing capacity, yeah I'll stick with the proven powertrain in the Ram, not to mention the literally award winning interior next to a the Titan's "meh" from the top down. Really glad I did since the Cummins got kicked pretty quick

Y'all got me thinking about it a little more. There is one thing Ram has that I would miss. The air suspension. Since moving from Florida to Michigan last fall, I have realized the smoother ride in the Ram. In Florida, the roads are smooth for the most part and up here in Michigan, just the opposite. I just bought a 2011 GT500 recently with the SVT performance package.... stiff.... It's jarring to drive around. But anyway, I'd miss the suspension for sure.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I have had 2-Ford's, a Chevy, and a GMC. All purchased new, and no major issues with any of them. This is my first Ram, and unless I have real problems down the road, it would take a lot to get me into anythings else. I absolutely love this tuck! But again, I think they are all pretty much equal in terms of dependability. So to me, it simply boils down to personal preference based on looks and the features you want.

Good luck on your search.

The new F 150 is still not independent suspension nor air suspension so it is highly going to lack in the ride quality department, and interior wise still think Ram is ahead of everyone. F150 with have almost no incentives on price and think they are overpriced to begin with. I’d stick with your current 2019 Ram and wait until a mid cycle refresh.

Same here. Perfect truck for me would be a 2017+ 3.5 Ecoboost engine transplanted into a Ram with an aluminum body. 500 lb*ft of grunt low down in the RPM range, no added emissions widgets for Diesel, pulling a much lighter truck would be amazing.... but I don't think I could give up the incredible ride quality of this truck for my day to day use. There are sections of road here in central TX that I used to avoid because they were so jarring to my old Ram's leafspring suspension. With air suspension I just bump up to normal and glide right over it. Not to mention for towing I can load up just about anything I can think of and the truck just goes "brrr" and levels itself out rather than pointing to the sky... absolutely a game changer.

That's really the beauty of having the Big 3 compete so hard every year - consumers win regardless of which route they take

I've always liked the F150 seats more than any other brand. But the only real difference besides that in the interior is the console shifter in the Ford. Tough call.

The 2021 has many more interior features besides just the console shifter which have caught my attention.

Regardless of your decision, I think you should post a comparison on here (I know I would really appreciate it).

I'm really curious how the infotainment systems compare - Sync seems to have a nicer UI, but I really like how I can have two things up at the same time with Ram.

I'm guessing the Ram has way more console space since the shifter only folds in park?

The previous Ford interior felt very "utilitarian" while I really liked the material quality in the Ram... curious to see if Ford has improved their material game.

Anything "weird" about driving the powerboost hybrid?

I'll be happy to share my thoughts as soon as I can see one and take it for a ride. The local dealers said they'll ping me as soon as they begin showing up on their lots. I told them I only want to see a Platinum or a Limited. All that I am looking at now are videos and articles that make the F150 look super nice and back in RAM territory.

Does the F150 have an Air Suspension or Pano Roof option? That would be a deal breaker for me to consider the F150.

You can go to Ford's website and build one. I do not believe they have an air suspension and not sure about a pano roof. I NEVER use my roof so I don't care much about that component.

Panoramic roof yes, air suspension no. That's the biggest differentiator that Ram has (IMO) - F150 is made of aluminum and has loads of torque, so it has incredible towing/ payload numbers... but it's sitting on leaf springs from Ben Hur's chariot.

I came so close to buying a 2020 F150 STX FX4 for $44k....until I found my '19 Ram CPO for $28k lol. So really for me it came down to value vs cost.

I drove the 2021 F150s weekend before last. Two Platinums. Std 3.5 TT EB and a Hybrid.

Very, very nice. The hybrid 3.5 EB was insanely fast (well, the std EB was insanely fast as well compared to the Hemi...).
Very refined interior and ride. Very impressed with what they've done. The new infotainment has been nicely implemented and I really love the landscape screen. Love that they kept the standard HVAC & seat heat/cooling buttons.

I am seriously considering them and will test drive them again when it's time I go shopping.

How was the ride vs the Ram?
