Anyone attempt the squeaky rear brakes themselves?

Dealer looked, and said it's normal. And quite frankly, it drives me nuts, and its inconvenient and a pain in my *** to go back and forth and leave my truck there for 3 days while they do nothing.

So far, I'm aware there are 1) revised rear pads 2) shims and 3) some half-*** bracket kit with a hose clamp. Is this suppose to be the official fix?

I'm curious, has anyone bought like an off-the-self aftermarket brake pad, and has that helped with the noise?
I don't know if anyone has racked up enough mileage to need a rear brake pad replacement yet, but I'm curious if I just buy a set of aftermarket pads if that would help at all.

I've been researching this for nearly a year now, and there doesn't seem to be a definitive "this fixes this".

I have not and I don't think too many people are "out of warranty" on them to do it themselves yet.

Mine were squeaking and my dealership changed the pads. Right after they changed the pads I took the truck to the back roads and bedded the brakes. Not the perfect condition (still had the original rotors with 9K miles on them) but at least I had new pads. It's a lot better but there's a little squeaking here and there.

Don't quote me but I think the brakes are only covered for the first year (and 12K miles maybe?). I'm under the year but over the miles so the next time I go in it will be on my list to see if they will revisit the squeak.

Hi mikect,
I certainly understand why this experience has been frustrating for you. Have you considered getting a second opinion at another dealer? If so, please feel free to send our team a private message. We would be happy to ensure this is documented and get you connected with a Case Specialist.

Hi brian42,
As mentioned to your fellow forum member, when you return to the dealer, feel free to loop us in! We'd be happy to add assistance throughout this process.

Just print out the TSB and hand it to them. That's what I did. I told them, "I don't care if you can replicate the problem or not. My issue is verbatim to what's on this sheet" They ordered the kit and problem solved.

There a three versions of the TSB
1: 05-001-19 which was to replace the caliper adapter, pads, pins and bolts.
2: 05-001-19 Rev A was to replace the caliper adapter, pads and bolts.
3: 05-002-19 is to add the rear brake moan kit, which is the brackets and u-bolt.

The problem is the calipers not the pads. That's why the second version of the TSB is to add brackets that tie the caliper bolts to the axle tube. This prevents the caliper from vibrating which is ultimately causing the noise. I had mine done when TSB 05-001-19 Rev A was the current fix and it worked but was obviously a much more expensive fix than the current TSB which is just the brackets.

Attached is the current TSB under diagnosis it clearly says "If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure." give this to service manager and tell him to fix it or contact Ram Cares.

It may be coincidence but when I replaced the stock wheels and tires off my Bighorn with some Black Rhino wheels the squeaking disappeared forever. About 10k miles since the switch and still no more squeaking.

I'm working with FCA Customer Care now on this very issue. The dealership had my vehicle for a week this time (this was squealing brake visit #3) but gave it back to me with the same squeal while claiming it had been repaired. I had previously provided them with the TSBs which they completely ignored, so this time I merely suggested that they investigate what TSBs may be out there that might address the problem and used the exact symptom description from the TSBs on my appointment request. Some of these techs get offended when the customer tries telling them how to do the job they were trained to do (hey, I get it but you could at least check the TSB database out). The work order for this latest visit says they resurfaced the rotors and applied anti-squeal grease, but the service adviser verbally told me they were also ordering new rotors and I'd have to bring it back. However, I cannot get a confirmation on what other parts they ordered and they did not tell my customer care adviser they were ordering anything. So we agreed to schedule an appointment with another dealership in the area to see if they would do more to try and resolve my issues. My hope is to have the TSB conversation with them up front to be sure they have parts available when I drop my vehicle off.

I'd really like to hear more success stories with these TSBs to address early build 5th Gen 1500 brake issues. On these forums it doesn't sound like it's been a sure-fire solution, but the dealerships may not be applying the TSB kits to the vehicles either.

I just dropped mine off at the dealership this morning to have the brakes and a radio issue addressed. I gave him the newest tsb last week when making the appointment so hopefully it gets fixed. I'll give an update when I pick it up.

They ordered the parts to do TSB 1 and 2. The brackets for TSB 3 aren't available until January they said. They are doing what they can for now. Seems silly to me to do unnecessary fixes while waiting for the fix that actually works, but not my dime and i have a loaner so I'll play along...
Has anyone confirmed that TSB 3 actually solves the problem?

Looks like the bracket is really a damper to squelch the harmonic/vibration on the caliper. Mine started doing this (less than 1000 miles on a new 2020)

wtf @RamCares? Where's the QC on these trucks?

Do you have the bracket on yours? I've ignored the noise and figured I'd go get my pads changed out then realized it's the bracket! Not sure I'll waste my time...

SERIOUSLY. when we find the QC folks, I suggest we wake them up, give them vision and hearing tests, and consider replacing them with toddlers who pay more attention.

FFS, my truck left the factory with Squeal, rough shift, and a faulty cooling system.
then my truck left the dealership where those defects were known, and sold to me as a new pristine truck.
then my truck went in for first warranty because of the overheat from the failed cooling system at 3500 miles.
when I picked my "fixed" truck up from the dealership, I never left their lot because the AC was broken when I got it back from them.
After going rounds with the dealership I took my ram back, only for them to say that the truck could overheat still.
in the parking lot of the selling dealership I took it back to.... it overheated.

QC. I'm 7 days into Florida's 15 days of lemon law counter and I haven't made my third payment.

I do not at this point. I may ask them if they'd get them for me and I'll put them on.

Did you already get the revised pads with the longitudinal deep groove between the two sides?

Negative. After having an F150 with the freezing door locks fiasco, I'm not in a hurry to head to the dealer over much of anything. Much rather a tech not mess with my truck if possible.
I’m with you. I’m going to try aftermarket pads with a different compound and see if that helps.
I understand that the problem is the harmonic vibration, but maybe a different compound will react a little different and not transfer the sound the same.
