I purchased the tank and what I believe are all the proper parts. I haven’t had a chance to install it yet though. As soon as I do, I’ll do a thorough write up
That would be amazing!

It will be a little while before I have time to install the parts I have. I need to get some time to mess with it. I’ll post as soon as I can.

I have the 26 gallon, and Alphaobd does have a setting to change the capacity. I changed from 98liters to 125 liters, and my range increased from 251 miles to 321 miles. So, looks like a software change should be done, to get accurate range.

Oddly, the fuel gauge also changed, but it went from ~7/16 to 9/16. This could have been unrelated, seems backwards, and I wouldn’t think the gauge would be affected.

I can confirm here looking at my truck and my dads (who has the 33gal tank), the only setting you would need to change is the fuel tank from 98 liters to 125 liters. The cluster1 (fuel full and empty) are identical settings, so that means the fuel gauge portion doesnt get affected for the cluster side. So really all we need to do is change it to 125liters. Now without a bypass cable or plug you cant do it, so i need to order that now which is about $50. Then need to get on the tank side of things.

Can you confirm that the parts I listed above will need changed and nothing is missing. I really want to get this done, but don’t have much free time at this point.

FYI, my dealer claimed that the two grey plugs on the left side of the bed in this picture are to allow access to the fuel tank brackets in some way. (If you have a spray-in bed liner they are probably sprayed over).

That’s interesting. My truck does have the spray in liner. I’ll check it out. I’m still waiting for a free weekend to try this.

Just following up here, after getting the security bypass module to let me program via AlfaOBD, I simply changed the fuel capacity from 98 liters to 125 liters and saved it and saw my range increase about 25miles, so that is really all that needs to be done. Nothing else.

And no I still havent got around to ordering the tank and parts, wanted to confirm this piece first. Not just gotta get off my butt and order it whoever has it the cheapest or find it at a junkyard.

27 liters (7.1 gallons) only gave you a 25 mile range increase?

Wouldn’t put a lot of importance on that honestly as it was done in the garage and didn’t move or even start the truck.

But key here is that it did change meaning I’m sure after a tank of full to empty it should reflect accurately. I validated it by checking my dads truck which is identical except bas the 33gal tank. Went down the entire list of body control variables and that was the only one that stood out that needed to be changed.

Any updates to this? Would be nice if a dealer would flash it. The alfaob, obdkey and bypass plugs ends up costing close to $300 which seems like more than a truck flash. Just ordered the tank parts so looking into the software stuff now.

I’m not anywhere near that. The bypass cost me $55 shipped. Then the AlfaOBD off play store is $49. I already had an OBDII Wi-Fi based reader anyways so that wasn’t any cost to me but even then those are only $15 on Amazon. You don’t need the MX OBDLink ones that cost $79. My $15 no name works just fine. Never been an issue. That puts you at $120 or so.

Thanks I’ll look more into it. I was just going off the Alfa site and since I didn’t have android I was looking at setups for pc. For $120 or so I’ll definitely go that route

So just to chime in. Finally ordered the damn tank. That should be here tomorrow. Coming with the straps. Coming off junked car. They didn’t include any hoses. So will have to order those soon.

Now here’s the other rub. From what folks mentioned on what parts are needed I’m seeing some conflicting or missing info. Originally going off the invoice a fellow member posted and what’s not needed here is what I can also confirm is not needed when looking at the Ram parts catalog.

Strap-Fuel Tank
Product ID: 52029891AB (same on 26gal tank)

Harness-Vapor Purge
Product ID: 68267057AB (same on 26gal tank)

Now here are additional parts I didn’t see listed that come up as different on 26 vs 33gal

Seeing extra parts of
Hose. Vent. - 68312139AB
Hose. Fuel Return. - 68312140AC

So I feel like I’m going to order parts that may not be needed and sitting with $50-100 in parts or they will be needed. Won’t know until we maybe pull it and see what’s really needed.

I just recently went through all the parts diagrams and cross referenced the part numbers from my current 23 gallon tank and the new 33 gal. I have now ordered
68312139AB and 68312140AC. I also have found out the fuel pump is different from the 23 gallon to the 33 (the 26 gallon tank uses the same pump as the 33). As a result I ordered the new pump which is pn 68409160AD.
I am going to attempt the install within the next couple weeks. I’m glad I waited now, since it appears my initial purchase missed some parts. I really wish I would of just ordered the truck with this option in the first place.

Yea I got the 26gal so most of it was similar like the fuel pump. So my 33gal should be here in 2hrs (driver just called me) so will see what it looks like what Im seeing I need from under the car without removing the old tank just yet. Then I will need to start ordering these hoses and vent tubes, etc.

Just odd that one member (@bcpsw) who had the dealer do it and screenshot their invoice doesnt even show those two extra hose parts we just discovered in parts diagram cross referencing unless it truly isnt needed or they just pulled the house to make it fit or something.

I've been following your posts on this.

Please keep us updated and hopefully, you can give a final summary of parts and all that's needed for the coding. I know I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.
