AC - does anyone have a truck that blows ice cold?

If you want to compare temperatures with other postings it would be helpful if you tested and recorded temps according to the attached document.

Thanks for the offer; but its not worth my time. I just thought I'd share my experience with Max A/C. It seems that tracking temps is pointless since many have already had theirs checked out and were told they were within specifications. No matter how much you measure temps, you are not going to magically beat the design specifications.

If it doesn't come with vent temperatures, it never happened. All kidding aside, with "feeling cool" or "blowing cold" being subjective to each individual, we wander what temps you consider as "blows cold"?

I'll have to test it. I have one of those instant read radar thermometers, I'll give it a go. FWIW, this is my 20 something vehicle I've owned....maybe 30 now and I don't have any complaints about the AC on this truck. I'd even say that it is better than my 4th gen ram.

I have just passed 13 months of ownership and 28k miles. No issue with the AC. Only issue that only came up recently is the tailgate is getting hung-up and won’t remote deploy. Other than that and a couple minor UConnect issues it has been fine. (Limited with ORP)

Also I've added a column for build date (can't believe I forgot it) - the two who've added their info, please add build dates.

Also; feel free to use your forum handle for now; VIN in my opinion is optional if some would prefer, though helps extensively when looking up build sheets.

I don’t know if anyone has ever previously mentioned this, but I have a BigHorn Level 1 with standard HVAC (no dual zone climate control), and I have the same issue.

Set to MAX/ Recirculate I am getting around 49-50 degrees out of the driver center vent and around 42 on the passenger. If it was the other way around I wouldn’t even care. Mostly, it’s just my wife sitting in the passenger seat and women are always cold anyways!

This issue is across the board. It doesn’t matter if you have 8” or 12” screens, climate control or standard. I had the dealer check it a while back and of course they said there’s nothing wrong with it. More specifically, they carefully worded that it “functions the same as all the other trucks we’ve tested”. Which, to me, means that they know it sucks.

I did a unscientific test on my short drive this morning by using a kitchen meat thermometer (have no idea how accurate it is) and I did get 46 degrees on passenger side and around 50 on driver side.
my true acid test is coming up next week in PHX when the temps will be 110 plus for the next 4 months!

I do not have any sort of scientific measuring tool but my skin-o-meter tells me mine is just fine, cools off the truck quickly even in 98 degree heat. Of course I do not expect it to be an arctic chiller 10 seconds after starting the truck, that is not how AC (or heat) works, but it keeps my very sensitive to hot cars wife happy so it is good enough for me.

my true acid test is coming up next week in PHX when the temps will be 110 plus for the next 4 months!

This will fix it for now....at your own risk if you modify your truck. Don't cut hoses so you can remove after Ram eventually offers fix.

I wouldn't say mine is " ice cold" but is very comfortable even at 99 degree temps so far last couple of weeks in Florida. I have factory front and rear tint and use a windshield sun shade.

Tested mine today and it showed 45 degrees. Feels nice and cold and I dont see any issue thus far. Mid February build.

Before the mod, the coldest ever temperature I recorded was 52 degrees out of my driver's side vent. This was after the truck was on and running for 45 minutes, the temp outside for this test was 91 degrees.

After the mod, I achieve temps in the 40s as the picture shows within 5 minutes of starting my truck. Today for instance. Outside temp was 96. Temp coming from the drivers vent was 44 degrees. The mod helps a significant increase in AC performance and confirms there is a bleed door or valve issue with trucks mostly built before September 2018. If you notice none of the people complaining have build dates after 9/18 they are all before.

If we can find out what RAM did in 09/18 to handle this with the newer built trucks. We would have our answer and a fix would be in order.

I’ve got a 5/14/2019 build date and get 51.8 (lowest I’ve seen) out of the drivers vent. So I don’t think they’ve changed anything.

Uh oh...a new airbag recall..... Now that a little back yard plumbing fixes AC, next duct tape 5 grandma size Kotex pads onto center of steering wheel just in case you get in accident and airbags choose to not deploy. We can McGyver anything Ram throws at us!!! PS still love my Rebel.......lol

It got into the mid 90s here finally, and my Ram takes longer to cool than my other three vehicles. At lower temps it didn’t matter, but I’m a bit worried about summer.

Outside temp now in 90’a and short trips require open windows, takes about 20 minutes to cool down. Felt fine when temps were in 80’s. Going in to be checked next week....

For what it is worth,
When I took my truck for the UConnect update and air bag recall, I complained about my AC blowing Diff. temp. from driver and passenger vents. The tech that was working on the updates was around when i complained about the AC to the service MGR. The tech jumped in and said the problems is due to a design flaw.
the service MGR told him to shut up! I told the service MGR to let the tech. talk!
I will try to explain the best I captured the info.
So, apparently the trap doors separating the left and right vents come together in the center of the dash top. He said he was tasked by FCA for the analysis of this issue. .the tech said when he removed the dash top on a truck with same complaints, the dash top sits on top of the channel/tunnel directing air to the vents on each side. Dash top has a foam seal on the bottom side that sits on top of the dash sealing the tunnel. the seal is supposed to seal. The seal does not work as designed (does not seal air tight), therefor that is why we get hotter reading on the driver side.
The service MGR gave the usual BS as to why the temps are different!
The tech said that he does not know anything about any changes to the design.
