Absolutely. The reliability concerns are just a lingering reputation from years past. I see tons of Rams on the road from a variety of model years. If they were that bad, people wouldn’t keep buying them. Additionally, that’s what warranties are for. If something does happen, it’s covered. If in 3 years you feel like you got a dud, you should have enough equity on your loan to get out of it before hitting the warranty expiration. That being said, it’s been mentioned before. All car companies (even Honda and a Toyota) produce a few duds from the factory, and it’s always the one guy who got a dud that’s on all the review sites and forums screaming about how vehicle A or manufacturer B is so terrible and makes junk cars and never buy from them!!! In reality, reliability concerns are largely based on other people’s experiences. If your friends and family drive Rams and are happy with them, they’re gonna tell you Rams are the most reliable truck, hands down. If they all drive Fords? They’re all gonna says Ford. And so on and so forth.
Bottom line, I looked into all of this considerably before pulling the trigger, and was surprised and happy with what I found as far as the reliability piece goes. So much so, I traded in a Tacoma (longest lasting pickup truck on the road, highest resale value of any vehicle on the market) to get in my Ram. And I’d do it again. This truck is refined and a pure gem to drive. Blows my Tacoma out of the water from the second I open my door to walk to my truck, until I hit lock on my key fob, this truck is clearly and easily the best on the road today.
I agree Ram is better than years past. However, in my own personal experience, I don't think they are better by much. I have purchased two '19 duds in a row. Both with very poor build quality and several issues from rattles, to mechanical issues. I also did some recon work and went to local dealers to check their inventory, and was surprised to see many with the same defects that I have. I agree that anything man made can have issues, but I think the acceptable level of quality control at the plant level is the worst of anything I have seen in my long history of auto purchases. Respectfully, as a historical Toyota/Lexus guy, I have NEVER owned one that had quality issues like I have experienced with Ram. Just the horrible paint defects alone would have never made it past Toyota quality control. This is my humble opinion of course, and this is what I have experienced. I am not a guy that comes on to forums to scream about how vehicle A is better than B. Also, not a single person in my family drives Ram...I am the only one.
I purchased the Ram due to the best interior of any 1/2 ton, and good looks. The technology speaks for itself and without a doubt, the current Ram is a darn good truck...IF everything worked as advertised. I am happy to hear that some of you have had problem free trucks so far. And, I hope that you all have continued luck and problem free rigs. Ultimately, this will undoubtedly be my last FCA product as I simply can't ascertain why my trucks have been able to leave the plant with VERY obvious defects that a 5 year old could have seen. The level of "passing" at the plant level must have a very low tolerance, and if I am having these issues now, then I can only imagine what's to come.
Lastly, many truck buyers are VERY loyal and will continue to buy the same product and will swear by it, regardless of the quality. This is called brand loyalty and the truck market has it more than any other. Obviously, I am not brand loyal which is why I have purchased two Ram's in a row. While I have had darn good luck with my Toyotas, I realized the Ram has a lot to offer. I have also owned all of the other brands in my life time. Is my bad luck with two duds in a row an anomaly? Maybe, but it's happened and my personal experience with FCA has not been a good one. Again, IF the Ram had great build quality and appeared to have a quality control dept. that at the very least acted like they actually care, then maybe I would have a different opinion. However, due to my experience and the research I have done, IMHO Ram offers a very pretty package with class leading tech, but this is all in a very pretty dress with much to be desired under the dress.
