Windshield replacement

My truck came from the factory with some scratches/gouges in the upper driver side corner of the windshield.

The dealer is going to take care of it and said they’ll replace the windshield , but they are trying to tell me they don’t ship the factory glass (w/ ram logo) outside of the factory and it would have to be replaced with aftermarket glass.

Does anyone know if this is true? I have a feeling they are full of it!

I had a Jeep and replaced the windshield and I was given the option if I wanted factory glass or not. Obviously factory was more expensive but with this being a brand new truck I feel like they should be replacing it with factory glass if available!

Just got my windshield replaced with my glass guy about a month ago. Got me a Mopar windshield with the Ram logo. The glass suppliers have all the versions in stock. And i think the dealership uses a subcontractor for the glass replacements and they don't want to pay that much for the genuine part. It's double the price of the Aftermarket one. Genuine glass runs about $450.

I figured that was the case! Thanks!!

Now I’m off to argue with these idiots that I’m not taking an aftermarket windshield on a brand new truck!

I’ve never heard of OEM glass not being available. What I have heard is some glass guys don’t want to lose their profit margins so they refuse to use OEM. Your dealer definitely needs to get the original glass for you.

At this point with your truck being brand new, most dealers will go out of their way to make sure you don’t give them any bad reviews. I had issues with my truck after I bought it and my sales guy wasn’t returning my calls, emails, or texts until I sent an email to the general manager. All of a sudden he called me back and resolved my issues and gave me money for my time and trouble.

The mopar glass is definitely more expensive for them. But should be readily available. If you have lane departure system make sure the recalibrate it. When they do this they need to use an inclinometer to make sure the camera bracket is set correctly.

Depending on how severe the damage is to the glass, it can be professionally removed and polished out without distortion. I have all the equipment and supplies, and have been doing this on my vehicles glass for years. There are glass contractors who limit their jobs to just this kind of work. If your interested, PM me, and I will get you the information.

I appreciate you reaching out in regards to this! I've been working directly with my sales rep (who has been great thus far) on this and he told me yesterday he is going to find out if they can get the Mopar glass and he would get back to me. I haven't heard anything yet, but I figured it might take a couple of days. Ill give them the opportunity to make it right, as they have promised they would, before I escalate the issue. If i don't have the (correct) answer within a few days I will reach back out to you for further assistance!

I know it’s impossible to tell for sure by just a picture but here’s the picture I sent my sales rep the night I picked it up

It almost looks like a form of vandalism. How deep would you estimate the scratches to be? I would think a fingernail could "catch" the scratches when moved across. If the scratches are within 1/32", they can be removed without distortion.

Go to the parts dept have them look up the part number for the windshield. It’s available. It takes a while possibly because it’s vendor shopped direct. mine took about 6 weeks unfortunately. You aren’t polishing that out nor would I want it.

This example might take the cake if this is due to a dealer "wash and wax" prior to handing over the keys. You may want to give your paint a good look over under a led flashlight to make sure there are no other scratches that you are missing. Some of these dealerships are criminal on how they "clean" their vehicles. It's why a lot of us impress upon service centers to not give a complimentary wash when we bring the truck in for service.

Just a heads up I live in Manitoba Canada and own a glass company. I can have a windshield for our trucks same day. Mopar or aftermarket. Any half decent sized city should have them.

Fingernail does catch! When I took it back to the dealer 2 days after I took it home, they didn’t even mention trying to have that glass fixed. They just said it would need replaced.

I don’t think it’s from a wash, they are way too deep. It almost looks like someone took a flat screw driver and used the corner of it to scratch the glass. I have no idea how it could happen other than that. It’s only in about a 2 or 3 sq inch area in the upper corner. I’ve had washed it twice and waxed it once already and I haven’t noticed any other scratches that are similar anywhere else on the truck. There is a small spot on the hood that looks like it was bumped with the edge of a polishing wheel, and the passenger side door jam has a spot that was completely missed with the body color paint... pretty frustrating that a $62,000 truck seems to have little to no quality control coming out of the factory.

Thankfully the spot on the hood looks like it’ll buff out with a little rubbing/polishing compound, and the door jamb paint issue isn’t noticeable unless you’re really looking in there for some reason..... I absolutely love this truck, but again, for the price it’s absurd these are even issues at all!
