Wind noise

I’m having the exact same issue as described above. Taking my car to the dealer on Wednesday

Checked that at the dealer. Mine is definitely something with the windshield. Drove it and had a noise taped the bottom of the windshield and no noise. Third windshield and fourth installation and second installation company. Dunno

Never underestimate the power of 3M 2" blue tape. I had wind noise from the sunroof and it was worse with the sun shade open. I blue taped the joints on the entire sunroof and the noise was gone. Removed the tape from the rear portion and noise was still gone. Took of the rest of the tape and the noise returned.

Scheduled an appointment with the dealer, told him about my results and took the truck in. Got it back the next day with the service dept. verifying the noise, had a star case number and no noise when I got it back. They did order some parts and the sun roof looks like it fits better in the front but it's fixed.

I like to try to find where the issue is as it makes it easier for the tech to locate. My guess is if they need to spend a couple hours locating the issue then frustration sets in and they start throwing parts or adjustments at it.

Anyone got a legitimate solution for this problem yet? I’ve narrowed my noise down to the A pillar. It did this the entire 6 hour road trip to San Diego...mostly on the passenger side, but I heard it on the driver side too. I had it at the dealership for 10 days and they replaced the roof molding and AC resurc and I thought it was gone. As soon as I got outside of town and on the open road it came back with a vengeance. Unbelievable.

Nothing yet. I have had the dash out twice for repairs. Tomorrow I have my pre-ride inspection for my Lemon Law case. Interesting to see how the FCA representives will act.

I have the exact same problem and have been working with a very good advisor at York Dodge in Prescott, AZ. I cannot get the truck to 80 MPH legally or near legally, to demonstrate the issue to their service managers. They have attempted to tape holes on the front of the truck per an advisory from Mopar /Ram Truck. My concern is replication of the noise. This seems to only happen when the truck is going 75 MPH or faster and a wind is involved. I have had NO luck on tracing the source of the whistle, but I tend to agree that this is a very expensive and annoying tea pot when it starts. I have gotten headaches from the horrible whistle. I have not noticed any relief with the radio. If anyone out there would like to help me and my great dealership that has been working on this mess for the last year, I would appreciate it and welcome them to the table! On another note, looks like our local car wash has found a weak spot on the roof of the cab. It appears that my truck likes to drain water from the exterior through the microphone opening onto my lap. My little blue baby is down visiting the dealership again for a spa retreat! My dealership is great and they try so hard to get a resolution, but what does it take Ram Trucks? All of these people complaining and you cannot take a 2019 Lariat Longhorn 4x4 for a sprint around a racetrack somewhere? Somewhere legal and controlled to prove this will or will not happen! I feel like my options to be loyal to my local dealer and advisor are lessening because there are no roads local that I can do 80 MPH on by only breaking the speed limit by 5 MPH. Maybe Ram Truck could test this in Utah on the I70 where the speed limit is 80 MPH on a windy day?

Why is this my and other owners responsibility to prove that the truck is defective? I would think that Ram Trucks would want to prove the opposite and prove that it does not do this. Maybe me and these other owners have the misfortune of buying duds. These are not cheap duds, and honestly when a person goes through this... What do they say when asked what their next truck purchase will be? I wonder how many of these truck owners that have a tea pot that costed them 10's of thousands of dollars are going to say the words Mopar, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Chrysler, or Ram Truck? I know one that is seriously being challenged and the sad part is that I love my truck when it doesn't sound like an expensive whistle! Please help Ram Trucks!

I will post more information later this week, however my suggestion is begin a lemon law case. If you need to demo it, plan to drive over a bridge into a headwind, if possible.

I hope that it will not take court action to get a whistle to disappear, I don't know if it is worth it. I did buy the lifetime warranty, so I guess that we can continue taking to RAM for the rest of our lives. lol! I really hope that RAM steps up and owns their defect! It would make a good many of us more likely to continue buying their brand. If this doesn't get fixed I will never own another vehicle that is any of their brands.

Thank you for the suggestion I will try to find something like that nearby. In little Prescott, AZ it is just too darn hard to find a place legal to drive like you do on a long haul.

JCC, where exactly was the air leak in the plenum. Do you think adding some additional sealer in this area would help without removing the factory foam sealer?

Yes it probably would work to just add seam sealer. If you look at my pics, you can see a small hole in between the two layers of metal. We covered that whole seam and the driver side area with masking tape and were able to make the noise go away. I just shaved the original off just to make dang SURE it was sealed.

I thought for sure it was the windshield making the noise! With the plastic cowl panel off, I could tape over the channel on the bottom of the glass and make the noise change/go away. What I found out is that the plastic cowl panel changes the direction of air flow inside the plenum and that's why sometimes it sounds like the noise is on either side pillar/corners or coing from the dash area. The recirc button changes the sound because of the change in air pressure.

We were actually able to have one person take a blow gun and blow air around in the plenum towards the driver side and the other person could feel very very faint air movement inside the vehicle in the bottom corner of the drivers side dash area. We sealed up the plenum seams and never had a noise again!!!! AMEN

I had the same exact "howl" noise.
The cause was a very small air leak inside the cowl panel plenum.
The fix is to Seam seal it and noise was GONE!!!!!

Was your noise coming from the passenger side A pillar?

I am having the exact same issue when driving around 70 to 80mph. I went to the dealer and they were saying they want to replace the door seal. I do not think that will fix it, nor do I want them to replace a perfectly fine door seal and potentially cause other issues. I am wondering has there been any resolution to this issue?

Take some 2" 3M blue tape and seal the door to body gaps. If the noise goes away then it's either gasket or adjustment, if not - keep looking with the tape until it goes away. One could argue that the dealer should do all this but it's how I found my noisy sun roof and I figured I cared more about finding it than the dealer would.

The window specialist said he adjust the right rear door and it quieted the noise a bit. If you crack either front window at higher speeds the noise turns into a louder whistling noise. Very frustrating. Now (11,000 mi) I also have a noise right next to my ear from the driver door window. It sounds almost like the window is flexing due to air getting into the weather stripping. Love the truck but the wind noise is horrible compared to the 2015 Ram 1500 I trade in for this 19 Laramie Sport.

Wind noise FIXED!!!!!

If your experiencing a "tea kettle" type of whistle that usually starts around that 40 to 45 mph and doesn't go away. It usually changes with the recirc button, but doesn't really go away. The sound seems to be coming from the dash windshield area.

Before we found the actual problem here's the things we tried with no success: Replaced windshield, Replaced recirc actuator & door, Replaced Cowl vent panel, Tried caulking & sealing around windshield.

If this sounds like your truck it sounds crazy, but try this:
Inside the cowl panel on the drivers side, there is a seam where the two layers of metal meet. We trimmed off the "spray foam" around the plastic plug and used seam sealer to re-caulk the seam and around the plastic plug. Once it dried, we put the cowl vent panel back on, went for a drive, and NO NOISE!!!!

Hope this helps at least one person out there struggling with the same annoying wind noise that has been driving us nuts for months!

Took mine in today and the dealer was well aware of the wind noise. Now we’ll see if they have a fix for it.
