wind noise from the sunroof

I have wind noise from my Pano roof. Also when I was driving last week in a very strong crosswind I got a very load continuous whistle from the driver side window. If I just barely crack the window, not even enough to have it come out of the stripping, the whistle will stop.

I have an appointment tomorrow to address these...along with the suspension being stuck in Aeromode, the Sirius channels not changing, 2 recalls. I haven't owned a Ram truck for about 20years...I'm beginning to know why now!

Update: Dealer said that they couldn't duplicate the whistle so they did nothing (I got the sound again about a week later when it was windy). They didn't even try to fix the sunroof noise, said it was probably normal because the pano roof is noisier that a normal one?!?!?? So I don't know what to do now, take it to another dealer I guess. Still waiting (2 weeks now) to have my headlight replaced because of moisture in it...said they didn't have any lights in stock. I can get a headlight from anywhere in the US shipped in under 2 weeks! Ridiculous.

Hello forum, New Ram 1500 Limited owner here. I wish I was posting just to celebrate. I am experiencing the same. Test drove panoramic roof model and was literally stunned by how quiet the ride was. Found the specific build out we wanted at a different dealership and picked it up this past Saturday. As soon as we left the dealership and got on the highway we realized there was wind noise from the front of the sunroof which is intolerable. Made the 3 hours drive home truly miserable. All smells from outside in, couldn't hear each other to talk. Like having a window open on the highway. Nuts. Dealership was then closed for the weekend and we were stuck driving the factory defect model several hundred miles home. Definitely disappointed with that aspect of the purchase thus far. We love this truck other than that. The dealer picked up the vehicle today and is assessing. Truly concerned if there is a fix. Is that fix going to be permanent? Will the quiet cab I fell in love with ever happen if they try to fix it? Along with the sunroof noise, there is a quiet electrical whine from rear speakers at idle, and some intermittent clicking from the small microphone looking ports on the roof in the rear. Back seat passengers on a 20 min drive said it was intolerable to ride back there. We are really nervous about this decision.

The truck drives amazing and we really hoped this to be our favorite vehicle ever to tow our new travel trailer. Is there a reliable fix? If so, what is that fix (new weather strip, slide glass forward)? Is the speaker whine bad ground to amp? Is my active noise canceling faulty (speaker/microphone clicking)? The dealer has offered us two choices: (1) They will cancel the purchase and drive our trade in back to us (3 hour drive) or (2) they will fix it (they say it can be fixed but also claim they have never ever heard of a sunroof issue with a Ram 1500 which I find unbelievable, in which case how do they know they can fix it if true?). They refuse to order a new one for us saying "Well if we order a new one for you it could just happen again so let's just fix this one". I feel like for a very expensive luxury truck we should get a non-defective unit to go home with, not one that they surely knew was defective (greasy fingerprints and hand prints all over the fabric around the sunroof and on the sunroof where someone clearly tried to mess with it (but with travel plans that would cancel a bunch of plans so not first choice from a timing/logistics standpoint but worth it if the alternative is to be stuck with a permanently defective unit). Our challenge is that this particular color/interior/build out is EXACTLY what we want and apparently the only one in the country. They offered to get us one off another lot but say it doesn't exist. So, we could get our car back and order one just as we want it new from a different dealer or keep this one and hope they actually fix it which makes us very nervous that we'll be stuck with an ongoing, never ending saga. Please, Ram/community help? We have to let the dealer know what we want to do tomorrow, Tuesday 03/19/19. Thanks so much in advance!

My opinion - ever since I had a wonderful honda accord sunroof drainage clog with tree debris dump about 2 cups of water in my lap after a rain storm I swore off sunroofs. They are great but me personally, I don't open them enough to make them worth the trouble (and the extra weight they subtract from your trailer towing capability).

IMO trade back and order the exact truck you want and delete the sunroof.

Sorry to see all these folks having trouble with sunroofs (I hope you get them resolved - the pano roofs are really cool for sure). This is not Ram specific - Ford, Honda, Toyota, Germans, everyone's got sunroof trouble.

I had a wind noise issue with my panoramic sunroof and got it fixed. You can read the the thread for details on water and air leak through the seal.
Try pushing it closed with your hand at final closing, if works than minor recalibration or adjustment may work.
The front glass is not set up to be adjusted but dealer was able the loosen the 6 bolts and move the glass just enough to fix it.
It should not be noisy if adjusted correctly.
I really like the panoramic roof and would buy it again.

Well thank you for the replies. We have cancelled the deal and are no longer owners of a Ram :( The dealer pushed back, and said this is what warranties are for. The dealer also refused to order a new truck because and i quote "a new one would have the same problem and we are right back where we started". Sheesh have a little faith in your product. So the deal was cancelled and we are shopping for a new dealer as I write this. We still love the ride and ability of the truck, we are just going to find one as advertised, that I do not have to file warranty claim day 1. Thank you again for the suggestions we just have the ability to start fresh so we are. Buyer beware... Still have faith in the product.

LB Limited. As you can see in the corresponding comments, as well as my own, there doesn't seem to be much they can do. I had the seal replaced and glass adjusted twice and the issue still persist. I also still have the occasional loud whistle when in strong head wind or at high (above 75) speeds. I did try to help push the glass when I closed it hoping it might not have the torque in the motor to create a tight seal when closing but this only lasted about a day. More I drove it the worst it got. I've relegated myself to the fact it will never be any better than it is. Not sure what my plan forward will be. Been a Dodge man since my first one in 2002 so it's kind of depressing to deal with this considering I have NEVER had anything remotely close to this happen before.

Update: Dealer has my truck 12 days and counting now. So far, they removed the pano, which required removal of the headliner and windshield. They said the front corners of the seal were crushed and were certain this was the problem. They ordered new parts and reinstalled pano, windshield and headliner. Then they test drove and STILL GETTING WIND NOISE!!!! So they're still working to fix it! I'm afraid that installation must be tricky without damaging seals. I don't think they want to take out the pano again so I suspect the next step might be a shade tree patch job. I'm very concerned now. Going on 2 weeks since I dropped it off.
Update 2: After 16 days at dealer they told me it was fixed and ready to pick up. On my way home I could tell it was better but not fixed. When I got home, I cycled the pano once and got back on highway and it's as loud as it's ever been. Made another appointment with dealer next week.
Whomever manufactures this sunroof must have inconsistencies in their production tolerances, or is just a bad design.
I really would like to talk with someone from Ram or FCA to see if/how they could work with my dealer to get this fixed or replaced with new pano. I don't think the dealer is capable of fixing it as it is.

16 days?!?! That's ridiculous!!

Dear Lydia at Ram Social Care Specialist,
As you can see from the many post on this subject that there is a definite issue with this pano design. Why hasn't Ram acknowledged this? I have personally been to the dealer (3) times with no luck. It seems Ram should have noticed this is an issue by now but seem to be silent on the issue!!

The dealer seemed to have fixed the loud whistle at highway speeds, but still said the excessive wind noise from the sunroof is "normal", they won't even try any kind of adjustment!

Others have posted various ‘fixes’ to address this issue - including adjusting the front panel held by six torx screws. I decided to give a try this weekend an it truly did the trick. I loosened the front four and as soon as the rear two were loosened the panel dropped nearly 1/8”. Tightened them up and now not only does the glass sit flush, it eliminated the wind noise I’ve had since day one. Pure bliss.

Wind noise from a closed Pano roof is not normal. Mine was noisy starting at about 40 mph and increased as my speed increased. I actually took a video on my phone as I was driving holding my phone down by my chest where there was some noise but when I moved it up by the sunroof the noise increased greatly - moved the phone back and forth as could hear a huge difference in the noise. I did this so if I had an argument with the dealer I would have proof of the increased noise.
As I previously posted, when I pushed the sunroof forward at final closing, it closed completely and the noise stopped, but when it closed by itself it did not close completely and it made excessive noise at highway speeds.
The dealer was able to adjust the front glass panel with the 6 torx bolts and now there is no more noise.
Also importantly, there is no more gap between the front glass and the seal to allow water in. If the glass is adjusted properly when closed you can pour water on the joint and it will not disappear between the glass and seal. This is a good final check.
If yours allows water to flow in between the glass and the seal when closed show the service manager and don't accept it if they say it is normal.
The only time there is noise (or water infiltration) from a properly adjusted sunroof is when it is open.
I would also have the dealer try all other noninvasive options before they go ahead and remove the headliner that may also require removing the windshield to adjust the sunroof.

Update 3: After the dealer's first failed attempt, I contacted a Chrysler Care Specialist and explained the issue and opened a case. I was told that they would work with the dealer to find the best way to fix the pano properly on the 2nd attempt and that they had field techs that could help. The dealer had my truck this time for another 7 days. During this time, I received no updates or communication with either the dealer or the Chrysler Specialist until I received a text from the dealer stating that my vehicle is ready for pick up. When I arrived I was handed my keys by the service dept. receptionist and saw on the ticket the actions taken was simply "Adjusted sunroof seal. Noise no longer present." On my way home it was obvious there was no discernible difference and was obviously not fixed. I spoke to the Chrysler Specialist this morning and asked what they did to help the dealer and the answer was "nothing" other than they called the dealer to verify that I had dropped off the vehicle and that a rental was provided. That's it! Nothing! When I asked what Chrysler recommends I should do now, I got a lot of hem hawing, and proposed that I could take it back again, or maybe to a different dealer. So I am to understand that Chrysler Care is only there for emotional support? They can't or won't actually do anything besides a false promise that they would send a tech specialist and work with the dealer to help fix my truck; they certainly did not!
The bottom line is I purchased this vehicle prior to it's delivery from the factory. From day 1 the pano screams with noise even after more than 3 weeks at the dealer and 2 failed attempts to fix it. Now it's obvious that the Chrysler reps are completely impotent. I'm running out of options. I suppose I'll make a 3rd attempt to get it fixed with a different dealer, but I'm convinced that the pano itself is defective and needs replaced, but for some reason they won't do that. They'd rather bet that I'll just give up and learn to live with it.

Pretty much where I', at at well, except my dealer didn't even attempt to fix the problem either time I have been in. I had opened a case with Ram Cares before I took it in the first time as well, but they haven't really been any help. Other than "checking in"
Please continue to update with any progress you have concerning this, I'm also going to try another dealer.

Ist time in for my pano roof noise the dealer had the truck all day and when I picked it up the service repr. said all fixed, all done. I asked if they drove it to verify and they said yes.
When driving home when I hit 40 mph or so the noise started getting loud from the sunroof - too late to return to the dealer. I took a video/audio of the noise while driving home.
I have an Allstate Drivewise monitor and checked online to see that they did not bring the truck into the shop till afternoon and I dropped it off at 8am. They started it again and moved it a short distance a little while later but no test drive.
I was pissed but got over it, scheduled another appointment, got it adjusted and fixed the second time - verified that it did not leak any more before I left the dealer this time.
I got lucky working with the same dealer the second time around but I was ready to got to another dealer if that didn't work.

Update 4: I took the truck in to a different dealer. They had it for a week. Again, they removed the windshield and dropped the headliner. They reported that several of the sunroof fasteners literally fell out. Clearly this is from the other dealer's previous "work". They said they replaced the seal and fasteners, and now the noise is gone. This is what I was told was done by the previous dealer but clearly didn't work the first time.
I don't know what this dealer did that the first dealer didn't do (maybe there was some repositioning involved?) but the result is FINALLY after 3 attempts and a total of 30 days in the shop, the PANO IS QUIET! After all this, I'm suspicious about how long it'll last but at this point it seems to be fixed! No more screaming sunroof! HOORAY (spelling?)!!

Nice - maybe you should let us know who the dealer was.
