Who else is disappointed in the New 2022 1500 build quality?

I’ve had my new 2022 Ram 1500 GT for almost 3 weeks now and so far I’m not impressed with the quality that Ram‘s putting out. I’ve owned at least 6 new Rams since 2011 ( all white ) and the paint quality on this one is the worst, orange peel on every panel. Last week I noticed one of the rubber strips between the cab and bed was missing on the passenger side, had to be during assembly. The new 12in Uconnect system is far more glitchy than the previous system on my 2019, It didn’t even come on yesterday till I stopped and restart the truck. You have to be easy on switching between different pages and media sources or it just freezes up. Lastly, I had my son wash it this weekend and he noticed damage inside the front passenger side door jamb. Looks like the door was pushed in hard where it dented the jamb, also looks like body side hinge bolts had to be taken off or tightened as the paint has been chipped off. Not impressed with this truck. We can’t use the excuse of the new body style anymore because it’s in its 4th year, also It can’t be because it’s a GT. This truck is just a mix of parts from existing models. The only thing it can be is poor quality and workmanship.

And you didn't notice any of this before you signed the papers? Have you gone back to the dealer at all about these issues or findings?

As previously stated sounds like your truck had a mishap and both you and the dealer didn't notice or overlooked it when you took delivery. Accidents happen but dont' think the overall 2022 quality is any different than 2021 models.

Exactly what I was going to say, @I1tech. My father bought a new Chevy truck years ago, and noticed some odd underspray when he was doing its first oil change. After doing some sleuthing with his selling dealer (whom he had a good relationship with), they found out that somewhere in transit the bed had been damaged, and was repaired/repainted. Apparently the manufacturer was not required to disclose that information since the vehicle had not been retailed yet

To add onto that, there are conditions that allow dealers to repair without reporting on brand new vehicles. It’s a common practice. Is it right? Not in my opinion.

Yea I would say this truck was damaged and repaired poorly. I don't know all the stipulations for dealers being able to sell repaired vehicles as new but I personally would not accept it when you paid for a brand new truck.

how many people really overlook a brand new truck? I didn't and most people don't. Used truck yes but not brand new truck.

But it's also a possibility that the PDI tech noticed an issue with the door gap and adjusted it during the PDI. there are some good PDI techs out there. don't just assume there was damage to the truck. personally if the truck is fine other then that, leave it alone. get some touch up paint and paint over the bolts. dealer is gonna do nothing more then that if you complain. But the quality is not just 2022. my 21 ram has alot of gap issues. rear door gaps at the top are horrible, tailgate gap on the left is worse then the right. I leave it alone though because playing with the adjustments only make issues worse.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a 2021 Laramie and at the bottom below the passenger door, there are some serious paint runs. Never noticed it until I was underneath. It's bright white so you can't see it but it is a little frustrating.

why did you accept the truck
you should have never accepted it with a repair
you might be able to get them to repaint it

I understand these trucks are not perfect, like I said I’ve had several. I think there was something with the door that made them adjust it but the dent with the crack in the paint is a mystery. I did inspect the truck when I bought it but never looked at the hinges. The paint quality I did bring up but knew there’s nothing they can do about it. The rubber piece was noticed later while looking under the truck.

In regards to screen issues, I'm not trying to make excuses but this is a brand new software system and like any new system (Windows, iOS etc) it's bound to have issues as it seems to be a full rewrite of Uconnect 4. Again, not making excuses for them but I went into my new truck fully expecting to have issues with the new software until the update it with fixes. Thankfully, from what I've read a lot of the issues can be fixed, even temporarily by doing a quick reset with the screen buttons.

I am going to agree that your truck has been repaired after it left the factory. No mass-produced vehicle is perfect, but it should not look like that.

Hopefully you can get the dealer get this fixed for ya.

I do, I look at everything.
I looked at it at the lot, opened all the doors, hood, tailgate and sunroof. Looked under the truck as well. When they delivered it to me (covid) I repeated the process and only then did I sign anything

Thanks, I did send the salesman a email with pic of the missing rubber piece. He never replied. I’m going there next week to have my rear wheel liners installed ( they were left out of my original order ) and I will be showing them what i found on this truck.

I'll say on my 2021...and in the 13,000 miles ive put on it since new... yes, im disappointed. So many squeaks and creaks from what is a new vehicle. Driver door seals slightly poor that when its cold, it rattles (not the panel, the door). Brake pedal has squeaked since new..and upon inspection there is a cracked plastic sleeve on the pivot (why plastic was employed there...no idea). Armrest squeaks. Truck shifts hard when cold. Cab strip seals on top - one is misaligning. It is just not put together well IMHO. The minimal of component quality is used. Its a "recyclable" truck...and trucks need to be able to take a beating. The motor (5.7 Hemi) is the gem in the jewelbox for me...but yeah otherwise looking my truck over in detail for the components...could have been better. Anything for Stellantis to make a larger profit margin.

Sometimes things are easy to miss, especially with the blur of buying and taking delivery. Sometimes you won't notice the little defects until you hand wash it yourself and actually have a chance to calming look everything over.

I was still finding little variances months later, little nib in the paint here, something slightly off-alignment there. But this is something I typically find on any new vehicle I've owned, nothing is perfect, even premiums cars, which technically a full size truck isn't. Our $60,000 trucks are essentially $28,000 trucks with upgrades and options, the paint and built is of that base level.

That being said, I agree that it looks like the truck has had damage and repair prior to delivery and hopefully will get taken care of or some other alternative to make a OP, who expected a new undamaged truck happy.
