What engine oil are you using?

"FREE"? You believe that? Just like the "FREE" tank of gas? LOL You paid for it somewhere in the price of the truck!
Nothing is free, but as of right now, I go get my oil changed at the dealership and pay zero for it. As long as that's the case, I will continue to use those "free" oil changes.

Kinda like "prepaid oil changes" in a way, eh?

I look at it like this. It does not show up anywhere on the bill of sale. I could have had the exact same bill of sale, with zero oil changes included and would have been fine with it. That's as free as things get these days.

Great video to watch why it's not good to use heavier oil than what is recommended.

Part of my experiment will be monitoring mpg and oil temp. Until recently the manual listed 5w 30 for heavy duty use and was the recommended oil when the 5.7 (non mds version) was in the 2500

I run the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w20. I purchase a couple of jugs when it goes on sale at Canadian Tire. I typically buy the stock filter from the RAM dealership before I do the oil change. I also keep the receipts for the oil/filter in a folder at home for warranty purposes.

I have purchased the Fumoto oil drain valve which is quite awesome. The only issue is the location of the oil filter. I much prefer the location of the cartridge oil filter on my wife Kia Sorento. Access it from the top.
Do you recall the part number for the Fumoto for our 5.7's?

Currently on Redline HP 5w20. Engine ran okay on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, but with Redline it's noticeably more smooth and quiet. Eventually making a switch to the spun micro glass Royal Purple filter as well. I liked Wix XP but their synthetic media isn't efficient as spun glass

I'm new to RAMs and 5.7s - why is no one using 0W20 that manual recommends ?

That only started with the new trucks. Before that it was 5w-20.

There have been no changes to the engine to require a different oil. Some think it’s to please emissions by using a thinner oil

Before the 5w20 norm, they recommended 5w30 under heavy duty use

The 2022 owners manual states 0w-20. Thus his question

I used the F106N on mine. Less complex with no moving parts other than the valve, and the nipple clears the sway bar. Also accepts the hose if you want to really be mess free.

Also, my engine will never see 0W20 for as long as I own it.

I noticed also for the 2022 it said " full synthetic " 0-20. On my daughters 21 Grand Cherokee and also on my 21 Ram at the first oil change the dealer put in " synthetic mix ". When I asked, they said that is what comes in all of vehicles from the factory. I don't know if that is true or not.
