What did you do to your Ram today???

Man I’ve been trying to talk my wife into one of these for her but she loves her van (Chrysler Pacifica limited.)
You won't be disappointed, this thing rides like a dream and the HO Hurricane moves this beast like a race car!

Kicked it out of the garage for a couple days so I can get the engine and transmission out back in my Dakota R/T

Wow, Is that the 318 that came in it or did you upsize?

Actually did not realize the 360 was the only engine put in the R/T. I did test drive a low mileage one but thought it was the 318

Yep, that's mostly what made it the R/T. This was back when the R/T badge actually meant higher performance, and wasn't just an appearance package as it has been used for since 2005.

I guess if you wanna call the stock 360 high performance.😆
Had one in 1999 in a RAM and it left a lot to be desired. Weren’t they only like 230 hp?

I think I saw today the 360 in the RT was 250. In a light Dakota I imagine it would push it pretty good. But my 318 in my 78 d100 was only rated for 130. I put a small cam, 4bbl, and duals on it but I doubt it got over 200 or so with the stock bottom end and heads. My Dad's 92 was a whole lot stouter. Back in 1970 the 340 would get you 275 in a Demon or Duster

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram SLT and I believe you are correct or maybe 235. Thought about getting a 6 cylinder in 2018 when I ordered my Ram because I was use to the 2001 and still serves me well, somewhat.

Decided on the 5.7 with 395 hp. The 2001 is tagged as 16 mpg vs the 5.7 at 21 mpg highway.

Compared to the 318, it was more performance. Notice I said "higher" performance. And it was 250hp 345tq

It was the fastest production truck in 98, until Ford released the supercharged Lightnings. It was even faster, stock for stock, than the 5.slow Mustangs atthe time. It was also lowered 2" with 255/55/17 tires. Performed better on the skid pad than the Camaro and Mustang.

I know. I just find it funny in those days sub 250 hp was considered a performance vehicle. Now we reached the pinnacle with a 1025 hp factory Demon. We truly lived in the good ole’ days. Sad to see the HP days gone for now. Maybe they’ll come back again.

We will still have high horsepower vehicles, they just won't be the traditional V8 muscle cars we are used to. The Hurricane supposedly has a 1000+ HP variant in testing.

More like day before yesterday.
My Ram and I crossed left BC behind and went into Yukon.

No, I did not wash my truck. The rainstorms I drove through cleaned up the caked mud.

Then drove on the Alcan with sections that are just gravel.
Spent the night in Whitehorse.

Loving the gradient dirt brown on Hydro Blue lol

Had my second paid meal in Canada in Whitehorse: Ramen at a joint owned by Chinese. Ordered my food in Chinese and I think I got hooked up because the bowl was overfilled with ingredients.

As usual, more in my build thread.

Yesterday - Big Day!
Yesterday was a big day for both my Ram and I.
WE MADE IT TO ALASKA! Couldn't stop to take proper picture because I was trying to get to camp... today's leg of Alcan was rough. IMG_6806.jpg
Before doing so, we passed by Kluane Lake.
IMG_6732.jpg
Biggest lake in Yukon. Unfortunately didn't spend a lot of time there to explore because it was 40s outside with wind chill, and rainstorm was passing.

IMG_6821.jpg
Border crossing for the truck and I took 30 seconds.
At the end when the agent said "welcome home" that gave me goosebumps and almost brought tears to my eyes.

Camped at Tok for the night.

As usual, more in my build thread.

I had a 99 R/T Dakota in high school. Regular cab red and a little rough around the edges but I miss it every day.

250 HP sounds meh these days but it ran 14.60s and did truck stuff and handled well. Only area very lacking was brakes. It had a shaker hood which weighs more and has a more restrictive air cleaner setup than stock so maybe it has another 10th left in it. Pretty fast for a truck in 1998.

Would have laid the smack down on an SS454 and a first gen Lightning.

250hp in a 4x4 half ton with a mushy auto is going to feel pretty bad vs todays 400+ and modern drivelines but it was spunky in a light mid size.

Always thought Chrysler messed up the 2003 send off for the RT. They should have made it a one year only truck and dumped the 345 horse 5.7 in it. Probably would have been shooting for the supercharged lighting with that driveline.

It didn't take much to put the 5.9 into the 2nd Gen Lightning territory. Shoot, there was a Lightning running at my local track last weekend that was running slower times than the 99 Dakota R/T I just bought. Has headers, M1 intake manifold, ported throttle body and a tune.
