Water leak and wet carpet (solved)

Nope. As stated in the thread, you just reach your hand up from below (between cab and bed) and push it back in until it seats properly. It’s a bit of a reach, but totally doable with no tear-down required.

Oh, I missed that part. That would be awesome if I am able to get at it like that. I will give it a try later. Thanks!

Take it into the dealer and have them put iy up the rack. It it a whole lot easier to attack it from that position and to ensure that it is seated properly. I originally did mine while on a creeper and resulted in pushing the seal all the way in but going to far so that it wasn't seated correctly. Also it is on file in case the leak causes additional issues down the road.....

Update: Was able to get underneath the truck, reach my hand up and work the grommet back into the slot. Lucky I have long arms. I was careful to not push it all the way through and is now seated well. Could have taken it to the dealership but this took me about 10 minutes vs. a whole lot of hassle with the dealer. Hopefully it stays in place, I think it will. Check that off the list.

Update to my leak: Dealer had the truck for a week, couldn't find a leak, until I forwarded the post from Lablvr2. They removed the back seat and rear panel, just as Lablvr2 did. Said they saw brown water marks coming from the rubber grommet area (sunroof drain tube). They performed the same repair by sealing the rubber grommets with silicone sealant. When I asked if they had taken any photos the service advisor said he thought of that after it was too late. So unfortunately I don't have any photos to share. I now have my truck back, and after a day of rain a few days ago, no water inside. I'm waiting for a torrential down pour for the big test though. Hoping it is all fixed. Monitoring very closely!

I had the same issue where just pushing the grommets into place did not seal against 100% of the leaking. I removed the rear seats and siliconed them and have been bone dry since. The grommets used on my truck were a bit too wide on the flange for my rear sheet metal so they were not sealing as intended.

Thanks to the denizens on this forum - I have tracked it to a sunroof drain in the rear drivers side.

One would figure, since this vehicle has THOUSANDS OF PRODUCTION TRUCKS SOLD - the factory would have figured out by 6/7/19 - how to seat/seal a GROMMET.

I'm going to try and get by my selling dealer tomorrow AM - my service writer is a PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH. I just have to get there early enough so I don't make a day of it...

That was the 1st thing I looked at when picking up my rig after it was delivered .. Sales Manager was like, "what do you mean" .. I walked over to his new Limited and showed him why his rig was going to leak .. his rear tubes were wrong .. I would never have seen that myself if not for browsing these forums for months while waiting for mine to be built ..

After having the rig for 2 weeks, I decided to pull the carpet up after a really heavy rain .. took photos of the 2 inches of water and then we dug into the TSB's, Star Cases, etc. Mine stopped leaking for a bit, and we thought we had it .. but it started again. (Mine is in the front - so either the windshield comes out and gets sealed, or the fender comes off and gets sealed along the body seam).

Glad you caught yours and got it fixed!

Don't forget to also look at the 3rd Brake light just in case ..

Don't forget to also look at the 3rd Brake light just in case ..

I've had the 3rd brake out myself to replace the bulbs with SuperBright LED's - made sure the seal was intact and lens seated correctly.

Dealer actually replaced the grommet - and ordered the tie-downs on the rear floor compartment that were rested from the moisture. It wasn't a whole lot - almost mistook for condensate, were it not for seeing the grommet out.

So I went out to my drive way and checked my truck, pulled the side trim off and checked the back seat carpets first (dry thank God). Then I checked the passenger front carpet (dry thank God). AND THEN I checked the driver side.... absolutely soaked... So I pulled off the weather stripping from the door and found a small hole in the ?wielding?. Anyway I poured water down my windshield and low and behold water was coming from said hole. It's been raining all week here in Virginia and is expected to continue until Sunday so I dryed the carpet with my wifes hair dryer and some towels, now it's only slightly damp and I used gorilla tape to seal the hole as a temporary fix until I can get it into the dealer. I'll check back tomorrow if it's soaked again and if it's not then my nightmare may be over... knock on wood. I will attach pictures of the problematic area.

Went to the dealership, service department said they don't do leaks and that they outsource to another company, they said they'll give me a call to setup an appointment. Don't deal with leaks? Give me a damn break!

Thanks posting these photos. 5 months later mine still isn’t fixed. Dealer said their leak pro checked this area, but I pulled my seal off today and I have the same hole in the same location as yours. So now I’m wondering how well it was checked. I found another dealer who now does their own in house water testing instead of using the leak pro the others still use. I’m going to take it there and show them this, and hope to god they find something!
