Well, it’s looking like my f150 XLT will be traded in tomorrow! The one thing I’ll give Ford is they have never questioned covering anything under warranty in the 2 f150s I’ve owned. How good or bad do you find service/warranty experiences with Ram? Will I have to fight if there are issues?

Also, extended warranty or buy it towards the end of the standard expiring?

Thanks!

Man will you get answers all over the map!

First, congrats on your new RAM purchase to be, give us all the details.
Next, before Patsy chimes in (ha ha), theres a $250 Allstate sponsored (but no requirement for their insurance) rebate check which hundreds if not thousands of us have gotten, me included. Very little in the way of hoops to jump through.
to learn about it, google “Bonus Drive” and it will come up, or wait and Patsy may wake up and send you a link.

Finally to answer your warranty experience, put me on the “minimal contact plus side” of the equation, only 1 issue (harsh bump shift down from 2 to 1) and it was promptly resolved. Others are going through a lemon law procedure so... there’s a lot of disparity.

Oh, mine is a 19’ with 7600 miles so not a tremendous amount of wear.

Welcome!

I have not had to cash in on my warranty yet thankfully but I imagine some things are easily covered under warranty and some might be more of a fight. There are people on here with premature seat and leather steering wheel wear who had to fight a bit to get it covered under warranty. In any case, do not buy from the dealer, they will try to screw you every time. Make sure you get one that is a mopar direct warranty. I recommend buying from Ziegler at chryslerfactoryplans.com and use the coupon code "payinfull". Hard to beat their price on factory direct plans. I purchased mine this way and it is added to my mopar account very smoothly.

I have owned multiple Ram trucks (and 1 Chrysler/MB mash up)since 05 and my experience having moved to multiple states is that warranty service is heavily dealership dependent. Some dealerships are great, some are completely worthless. Not many seen to fall in between.

Yup! as he said. I've been lucky with both of my Ram's, not many issues and the dealer of my 19 Laramie took care of the couple I had with it quickly.
I stayed local when I bought my 19 because he had an excellent price and I'd rather buy locally as I assume they care more if you are a customer than just bringing it in after you bought it elsewhere. That's not worth a serious amount of money however.

As a note, price of the extended warranty goes up after 12 months or 12,000 miles. I found the best price from clay @ Nichols Motors in Kansas. Over 800 miles from here so you don't need to buy the Mopar warranty locally.

my experience through 15 years of Chrysler product ownership with my dealer has been spot on 2005 magnum r/t 2009 chrysler 300 walter p edition 2010 dodge ram 1500 no problems 2012 charger slt plus 200 Chrysler 200c was very impressive had the final check before the 3/60 was up replaced all 4 struts and did four wheel alignment 2014 ram 1500 and 2016 ram and now 2019 ram so far come in with a problem solved 2014 ram with air suspension they tried but the fixes didn't work basically bought back the truck by giving me way over value trade in and 18percent off a factory order 2016 came in for the brake groan ordered parts no questions asked. very impressed.

Thats a good dealer experience right there!

Ford guy from 1986 to 2018, owned several different vehicles. Had a sticky valve body in my 1990 Bronco, under warranty, repaired in no time.
No other warranty work ever required on any other of my FoMoCo products.

What I hear is things have changed with blue oval... not sure how true that is.

Now, to my current ride. Had some recalls, dealer took care of them.
The only warranty work has been the cracked rear window frame. Went in, they confirmed, FCA approved and had a new part installed a week later.
Happy so far, things can change on a moments notice tho.

The warranty is okay if something on your truck is obviously broken, hanging off, and if there is a recall or TSB. My experience has been they're not good at chasing down gremlins, it's not cost-effective for them. "Operating as designed" is one of my personal favorites

My favorite is "we can't replicate the problem"

Welcome and congrats on the new addition. As mentioned above, go grab this extra rebate. Free money.

Make sure you go file for this additional rebate. Do it within 60 days of purchase.

The only qualification is that “someone in your household” must have a non-FCA vehicle or that you traded in a non-FCA vehicle.

Of course they can't lol. Also, "we tried another vehicle on the lot and it does the same thing". Do these dealerships all take the same class? How do they all have same response?

With my Chrysler products I've never had any issues with obtaining a repair under the terms of the warranty, in fact twice my dealer offered to cover parts and labor on an item that was clearly out of warranty.

My GMs, even though I worked for that company, gave me a hassle on an engine replacement even though the failure was well within the warranty period.

I've only owned a few Ford products, but based on friends and on my one experience, Ford needed a sworn avadavat from God in order to get a covered repair. There was a publicized finding a few years ago that rated Ford poorly in this area.

Keep in mind that often the overall fortunes of a company can dictate how tough they want to be on honoring warranty and that this often changes over time. It's doubtful that any auto manufacturer will deny a warranty claim on a repair that clearly meets the terms of the warranty. Some of the complaints I usually hear are denials when just 'slightly' out of the warranty period. My sister's Buick a case in point: at just over 20,000 miles she had two window regulator failures and a climate control module failure. The dealer denied a warranty claim because the vehicle was four years old and well past the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.

Dealership 3 minutes down the road is horrid (service and sales). I wouldn't trust them to watch my dog.

I drive 20 miles down the road to a family-owned dealership and they've been great (my truck is in this week for its 5th visit since I bought it). I didn't buy it from them but they are more than happy to work on it since FCA re-imburses them for it.

Unfortunately, the dealership has a lot to do with warranty satisfaction. At peak times when dealer's service departments are seeing a lot of warranty work, or plagued with recall work, the service department may try to push work away in order to do more cash work. Or, sometimes they are just overwhelmed and can't keep up. Sometimes they've hit their warranty limit.

It's unfortunately true that some dealership service departments make business decisions that disfavor the customer.

I've had new vehicles of some kind for 40+ years and I have never had warranty repair issues ever. I've had plenty of warranty claims in all the manufacturers. Chrysler, Ford and General Motors. No brand has had significantly more warranty issues for me.
I have been a "regular" at the dealerships for normal maintenence so I have always had a history before hitting them up "free" (non-customer pay) work. Whether that makes a difference..... Couldn't say....

It almost usually does. Service customer loyalty is often directly related to service department loyalty, and vice-versa.

I would tend to agree. 9 years as an insurance adjuster for a major company. Insured “A” is a 20-30 yr customer. Insured “B” is with us less than 1 year. Within the policy guidelines (in other words we had to follow procedures) there was always some ”grey”. Guess which customer got the benefit?

Yikes, Allstate's $250 rebate sounds like no holds barred data mining.

I'm debating about buying an extended warranty but not sure how long I will keep this truck. I think there's only been one minor issue aside from the "it's functioning as expected" crap a/c. and the hack is working fine for me.

List of common dealer responses:
1) can't duplicate issue,
2) it's functioning as expected,
3) we don't have that in stock,
4) did you buy that policy at this dealership?
5)

Well there's already so much out there already available (including motor vehicle registration data that seems to be rented or sold all the time) that it doesn't bother me. I did accept the $250.

Extended warranties (from RAM only):
Pro's -
relative peace of mind for a period of time
these are expensive, hi tech trucks so you could save a big repair bill
if you don't have a couple K in reserve it could sideline you w/o the warranty

Cons -
Big dealer/FCA money maker so its basically just gambling - you are betting you will have a covered problem
3 years factory warranty should/could shake out most issues and some things go 8 years out (emissions, ET system)
FCA denies some claims anyway (like all makers do) so not everything is covered (and you must be able to prove you met the maintenance requirements for some things)
Doesn't really give you that much of an extra coverage period unless you ponied up and got the unlimited (which is gone)
People like me run out of time wayyyy before they are out of miles. For others its the other way around.

I go back and forth, I've never had an extended warranty pay off for me, my Ferd's is up in March and I've had 0 claims. That was $2K flushed down the toilet basically.
