USB media hub ports charge intermittently/no car play; 2019 Ram 1500 with 12" display.

I had the same “fix” for mine, if I didn’t have the 1/8” jack plugged into aux my screen would jump constantly from input to input. Since taking the console out I have no issues with power to usbs and the media hub is working as it should. Thing is, I didn’t actually do anything, I just took the console out, did a mod (took the cd player out), put the console back in after cleaning the connectors and it all works now. Well, maybe not all, the light under my console lid stopped working. That’s fine, I’d rather have power and CarPlay again. Edit: Do you have a cd player? It’s curious to me that things work now without it.
How easy was it taking the console out?

4 plastic covers to pry off at the base of the console, then 1 piece on either side of it where it meets the dash. After that it’s 6 10mm bolts to loosen. Pull back, detach 2 connectors and it’s done. There’s enough room in the cab to stand it up and then turn to lay it down and get it out.

the first time I have ever had a truck that is so dependent on the radio controlling everything making the truck useless half the time, the glitchy POS is making me decide to never get another RAM along with all the other crap rear window leaking, exhaust manifold cracking whats next? As soon as interest rates come down if they ever do I will go to a pre 2019 model F250

Thanks for the info!

Its the connector on the back of the USH port panelports....I reached behind the panel (hard to do) and reseated them. I haven't had an issue since.
I was getting constant charging not changing and dropping of apple car play.

Did the same yesterday. Radio comes out with 2 screws and some careful pulling. Then I just moved the connector a bit and now I’m working again. Thanks @Ultra-Harley

For anybody that is still experiencing this issue, I ordered a new media hub… And installed it, and still had the same issue… Constant power cycling off and on, and no CarPlay connectivity. After troubleshooting, the media harnesses back-and-forth between the two media hubs I have, I noticed that unplugging the right connector sent constant power to the USB, as before it was installed, I could see the lights constantly on. So what I did is continue to troubleshoot, and just before giving up, I went underneath the console, lifted it up, and unplugged a harness underneath. Instantaneously CarPlay turned on, I had my phone plugged into USB at the time. I was in disbelief, didn’t know if I wanted to try to plug back in that harness underneath, so what I did is I tested the USB in the back and they all worked. The 110 power in the back also worked. So, with some hesitation, I plugged in that harness underneath the console back in, and everything continued to work. I reinstalled the center console, and as of right now I have CarPlay. hopefully this helps somebody out

Btw, anyone know what that harness underneath the center console does? It didn’t seem to be related to the console power in the back seats. Might have been the wireless charger - I forgot to check that before I reinstalled everything back.

Hey there, I guess I got a similar issue with my truck, even if I think it might be a bit more tricky in the detail.

I recently bought a 2019 Sport from a German dealer that is specialized on importing and converting RAMs and other FCA cars. They told me it has Android Auto/Car play (as I didn't have a cable at hand, I couldn't check it, but as far as I know the Sport with 8.4 has it as standard).

As it was a 5 seater and I needed a 6 seater, they converted it for me. As they were lacking a proper harness (or wanted to save some time), the front USBs (1 & 2) aren't connected at all and the rear USB (3) is connected (and recognized) as USB 1. When I plug in an USB stick it's playing music without problem, plugging in my android phone, it's being charged and the radio tells me, that USB 1 is being read but Android Auto isn't starting.

From a good guess, I would like to connect the front USBs as they are supposed to, hoping this will fix the issue. So, my question is, does anyone got a part number for the wiring harness going from the front USBs to the respective module?

Thanks and best regards from Frisia, Germany

Simon

Edit: I tried several USB cables and both ports on USB 3 (A and C)

Sure, it’s part number 68397098ae,

Media Hub USB Port, Center Console

Thanks for your help, but I actually got the media hub installed and was looking for the cable, that connects the hub to the Uconnect module.

After some deeper search, I found out, that this cable is part of the huge instrument wiring harness and so (as far as I understand) impossible to get it as single cable.
Then I realized, that there was a media hub before the 5 to 6 seater conversion, just on a different position, so I guess, the cable is just to short, to reach the new installed hub. So my plan is getting the center stack out, look for the cable, cut it, and get some longer wires in.

If this topic is of interest for anybody, I'll keep you updated.

I just fixed this on my 2019. It impacted both the front USB and the rear USB hub. I did drop the battery without success and factory reset the Uconnect settings and uninstall/reinstall android auto. Yes, confirmed it wasn't the USB cables.
I found a replacement USB hub on ebay for $50 and tore apart the console on a 100 degree Colorado summer day while on PTO. It is easy to remove and follow this thread: 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn Media Hub Replacement IF you have the bench seat set up and not the bucket seats with front console.
Prior to removing the USB hub from the chassis, I unplugged it and plugged in the new hub to make sure it works.. At first it didn't.. Then I unplugged/replugged the cables into the hub a second time and it started to work.
I then unplugged the new USB and plugged in the old USB and that started to work also!
I went around to the back seat and that USB hub started to work also!
So I can only think there was some build up of energy in a resistor which wasn't able to dissipate when I dropped the battery. Removing the entire USB hub looked to do the trick.

Forwhat it's worth, I have the eTorque Hemi, so I don't know if I needed to drop that battery in anyway or not.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 with the big 12 inch screen. The USBs started doing this on us this summer. Some times it works sometimes the charging is intermittent with no CarPlay just as others report. Every time I take it to the dealer it works fine (naturally). Such a pain to have an awesome truck with a simple annoying problem. It sounds like most people have unplugged the USB harness from the back and reseated it? I’ll give that a try. Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping the 5th Gen community with your troubleshooting! That’s what community is about!

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue, other than hammering the usb hub? (I tried that too!)
I started having the same charging cycle every few seconds after getting an over the air uconnect update a couple weeks ago. Tried all things in this post. Resetting uconnect, different cables, etc.
2019 Ram 5th Gen Bighorn. It worked flawlessly for almost 2 years.
iPhone 7+. Oddly enough my wife's iPhone 12 Mini doesn't have a problem charging with the same cable, although I wasn't able to get carplay to work.

Thoughts?
So I have been having a similar issue in my Ram just solved it but might not be a 100% done deal.it would charge but kept popping up as a USB error on port 1 so after some digging I saw the module may be bad. After watching a video of the guy replace it I saw that his was lose at the beginning. So before I spent more money then I needed I took apart my center console and realized my connection came lose and was oh so slightly ajar from the back. After I unplugged it and plugged it back in it started to work.

Something I don't get is why USB connections don't have any kind of cable lock in their standard connectors. Think of a RJ45 connection. It has a small clip that engages and holds it in there. Maybe it's because that would defeat the convenience of a USB device. Unless you build your own cables and both the male and female sides custom with some sort of clasp. No way auto companies are going to spend that money. I bet rocket companies do though. Or some other mission critical applications where someone could die if the USB connection were to come apart.
