Is anyone else having this issue:
I have noticed that when I use remote start on my truck, the USB ports, for whatever reason, do not pick up my cable, which sucks because I love using Apple CarPlay. It's happened several times on me now and I don't know what's causing this. I have tried several cables and have the same result.

I've also tried turning the truck off, then starting it up again, and it will still not pick it up. Only after like 15-20 minutes after I turn my truck off, then come back and try again does the USB port pick up my cable.

Any ideas?

Im having the exact same issue and I believe other people are as well. I took mine to the dealer on Tuesday and they claimed there some codes causing the problem and they claimed to fix it, but it did not. Mine will work when I get in the the truck, but once I pull the cord out and plug it back in, neither usb port works.

Did they say how they plan to fix it?

I just sent a private message over to you guys. Thanks for looking into this for me.

Quality customer service seems to be going by the wayside these days. Nice to see representatives from Ram being this helpful.

Using USB-A port 1 for an iPhone X in my Limited, I haven't had any issues with XM Guardian or fob remote starts which I frequently use due to the heat.

I have a thumb drive in USB 1 and whenever I get in the truck and start it the music starts on the exact same song, and usually starts the song over a few seconds into playing it. Every once and a while it starts with the song I was listening to when I got out earlier. Very frustrating as my last couple Rams didn't do this. Maybe it is linked to the same issues you guys are seeing with the CarPlay functions.

I seem to have a similar issue. I leave my iPod plugged in all the time but when I have had the truck off for more than a few minutes seems like I have to unplug and replug the USB back in so it will reconnect. It won't reconnect until I have unplugged it completely.

I have the exact same issue. I restarted my iphone and it seemed to fix it when it would happen. It happened again tonight and restarting the iphone did not work. At this point, I went to step 2, I went into settings, general and then carplay and reset the carplay and was able to get the usb plugs to connect again and charge as well as bring up carplay. This is my first attempt and I am not sure if this is the work around that will fix it or not. I also removed another car in my carplay settings, which might have helped. Hopefully RAM figures out the root cause with Apples help as this apears to be an iphone issue from my perspective.

I discovered that lint was in my iphone and once I removed it, the phone connects regularly with no issues. Works like a charm all of the time.

What cable are you using? I had the same issue when I first bought my truck and it turned out to be the cable.

Not all cables are made the same. I had an El Cheapo I'd been using in my old truck just for charging and the RAM wouldn't recognize it.

I still have some El Cheapo cables for charging (my wife and kids only want to charge their phone) but for my phone (charging and data) I use "the good stuff".

I have not had any problems with Apple or Anker lightning MFi certified cables with Apple CarPlay.

I have now discovered that the issue causing problems related to USB for me has everything to do with the temperature outside. I live in Arizona and have gone through two summers with my truck and never have any issues during the winter months. I have found that my issues always occur when getting into my truck around 5pm in the afternoon when my truck has been sitting in 100 plus degree temperatures all day. after driving the truck for 15 to 30 minutes, after the interior temperatures have cooled down in the truck, my USB begins working again and will charge my phone and CarPlay will begin working again. This is intermittent still but only occurs with very hot temperatures with no clouds blocking the sun. Hope this helps.
