My Nav 8.4 system has been updating constantly the past 10days or so, multiple times a day. I keep resetting my presents and home screen set up, but next time I drive its back to factory. Now my android auto doesn't work anymore either. Says "device not recognized". It did this a few months ago and the dealer did something to reset it and it went away. Now I'm back to square 1 it seems. is this just my unit, or is this happening to others as well?

Side note, my bluetooth connection is still absolute garbage and unusable for more than 2 or 3 minutes before it starts skipping and breaking up. I love this unit when it is workin, but these problems are driving me absolutely crazy. Almost to the point of trading this thing in even though I love the truck otherwise. I just can't deal with having to bring it in every few weeks to have them reset it for it to happen all over again.

Sorry for the ranting

Do you happen to have the music app set to go to sleep when not in use? I was having that problem on my bluetooth speaker at home shortly after the screen would go to sleep...disabled it on my music apps and it went away.

To test it, does it clear up when you unlock/wake up the screen?

Tried that, also tried multiple streaming services and even just songs on my memory card in the phone. It's something with the truck, not my phone. Happens with other phones as well. I talked to my service manager, he is making me an appointment to look at it again, a month after they looked at it last time. Hopefully they can get the unit replaced. This has been an issue since day 1 with the truck.

Update: My truck is now in the shop, I told them I want the radio replaced. We will see what happens I guess. In the mean time, they gave me a new wrangler 4 door that I will be giving to my wife to drive and she does about 500 miles a week so that is some incentive to get my radio fixed asap.
On a side note, the wrangler drives like absolute garbage, not sure why anyone would want one of those.

Update: Finally got the truck back after almost 2 weeks in the shop. There is no fix for this issue per FCA. They did every test they could think of and escalated the case, but they just said that I have to wait for an update which is what they have been saying since I bought the truck. I'm not very happy with this outcome, but unless I go lemon law there isn't a thing I can do about it. I can't justify this $52k truck that can't even play music from my phone without jamming up. I love this truck, but It's hard to be happy with it in this state...

What did they try and what did they replace? Did they try replacing the head unit? Media hub? The fact that both your wired and wireless connections are bad should be a clue for them.

They did not replace anything at this time. There is a software issue with this unit and my specific phone as per what they say. It is B.S. because it did the same thing with my old phone and my phone works just fine in my wifes Jeep and in the many loaners they have given me over the last year. It's just my truck, but FCA will not authorize to replace the unit because they say it just needs the new update which is "coming soon". My next call will be to FCA corporate myself. I lemoned my wifes previous car over a faulty speaker, I will certainly do the same thing here if it comes to that.

I would guess it is either your Media Hub or Head Unit. If it were software more of us would be experiencing it. I wonder what would happen if your media hub and/or your head unit suddenly and mysteriously and completely “shorted out” and didn’t work at all. I guess then FCA would have to replace it

Not sure this is going to be helpful or even pertinent, but at some point I was going to open a thread anyways, so maybe now's the time.

After about six months of owning my DT, I started to get random radio resets that resembled the unit loosing power then booting right up. I had a few instances where I'd hear a chime, but when I looked at the instrument cluster there was no message. Some months ago I went through a couple of weeks where the memory seat function would not move the seat to my selected driver's position at start-up.

Now the seat issue really annoyed me. Remembering the service bulletin addressing the under hood battery ground terminal that would cause temporary loss of power steering, I realized that there were five other frame mounted grounding locations under the hood that are designed the same way and possibly susceptibly to poor or intermittent connection because of paint. (Three on the left side forward of the battery; two on the right side.)

So I disassembled each ground point and cleaned the stud threads and terminals with a small wire brush. I also cleaned the bottom of the attaching nut by running it over some 5000 wet-or-dry paper on a flat surface. I reassembled each connection using a generous amount of electrical anti-oxidant.

All problems mentioned above have disappeared and have not returned.

Best regards,
Dusty

First call to FCA corporate today, They will look into it and discuss what was done with the dealer and get back to me. I also started looking into CT lemon law. I have used that in the past, I don't want to go there, but I will if FCA refuses to fix the problem. I'm not messing around with this anymore. Truck has been in the shop for over 15 days just for this issue alone. I love it so much, but I need to get this fixed before I just trade it in and loose my shorts on the deal. fingers crossed they replace the unit and I can move on.

@rlc2020 Not sure if you have tried this but I noticed my presets were gone each time I started the vehicle because they are tied to the driver configuration 1 or 2. If I change a preset radio station or the orientation of my apps, I must then save it to the driver profile on the door.
Again, sorry if this doesn't help, just hoping this helps. I know how annoying this must be for you.

I finally heard back from Uconnect/FCA customer service. Exact wording was "Unfortunately, at this time, our only option is to wait for a software update for your radio." They are acknowledging the issue, but admit that there is no fix for it at this time. I have been waiting since JANUARY 2019, nearly 11 months, for this "update" to arrive and it never does. The case manager informed me that compensation can be made to me for my troubles, but that will only come once the issue has been resolved. I'm sorry, but I'm 1/3 of the way through my lease already, what if a fix never arrives?

This is extremely frustrating. There are several systems that work just fine, They could replace the unit with one that works, but they refuse to do that probably due to the expense. She informed me that replacing the unit would not fix the problem since it's the software that is not compatible with certain phones, so any unit would have the same issue. I call B.S. on that since my phone works just fine in my other FCA uconnect vehicles and multiple phones have had the same issue with my specific unit.

Has anyone else with the Alpine/Nav 8.4 combo been having bluetooth compatibility and android auto issues? If i'm the only one, then obviously my unit is defective, not the entire software system across every vehicle.

I'm absolutly at a loss here. I refuse to pay for a vehicle that does not work as advertised, especially when this is such a basic thing. If my seatbelts didn't work I'm sure they would be all over it, but since it's not a "safety" issue, FCA does not seem to give a damn.

I am having the same issues right now. I was really wanting this fixed before a 6 hour trip to my inlaws on Wed. My Sirius ended and I need the Android Auto to work since I'm paying for the subscription. I thought it was an Android 10 update that caused it, but I drove a 2018 Expedition the last few days and it worked in there.
3 times I've taken it to get the squeaky brakes fixed. Passenger side power mirror went haywire. They already replaced the amplifier, which somehow was the cause of the audio not working while the radio was on intermittently or the loud beep that goes non-stop.
I'm with you, I don't want to trade this in or go the lemon law route. The interior is way nicer than the competition and after having driven the F150 and Expedition the ride is so much smoother and seat more comfortable and the mpg's are much closer than what the window stickers suggest.
But man, I have never had so many problems with a new car.
1 year old now 15k miles problems since 6k. Laramie crew cab.

I have a 2019 Laramie with 8.4 no nav and alpine. I haven't had any issues with Android auto or phone bluetooth. I use Sirius mostly, but haven't had any issues with radio presets being lost. I may not be the best example, I've only had truck for a week. Took it on a 2 hour trip today used Android auto for GPS both ways no issues.

It's only the 8.4 Nav units that are having the issue. My wife has the older 8.4 unit in her cherokee and my phone works fine in there. The results so far are that I'm still having the problem and the Uconnect case manager calls me every week to tell me that they still do not have a fix and I need to continue to wait for FCA to invent a solution to my problem. Nice of them to keep calling me to tell me that they aren't doing anything for me. I love this truck, but FCA has some serious issues that they need to resolve. If this was a brake issue or something safety related you bet they would have this fixed, even if they had to replace the truck entirely. But, since it's just a bluetooth issue they don't seem to give a damn...
