Uconnect 5 is much better but…

I’ve had my 22 rebel with the 12” screen for 3 weeks and it has been extremely buggy and seems to be getting worse by the day. My volume knob and steering wheel volume will randomly stop working, lots of crashes, sometimes one after the other, shortcuts will disappear-heated seats and wheel, screen will suddenly turn to light mode even though its set to dark mode, screen will just turn solid white for a few minutes then crash, volume will suddenly go pretty much full blast and emit a horrible screeching noise until it crashes or I pull over and jump out. For the last few days everytime I start the truck it is rebooting. Went to the dealer today to talk to them and then scheduled an appointment for next week so they can have a look. I would expect a few bugs here and there with new hardware and software but this is waaay beyond a few bugs.

That’s the price of being a first adopter….

My first bug, the second screen I had setup disappeared. Everything else working, well, still can't get Google Assistant setup but its been fine otherwise. Only a week in, but promising.

The system to me is much better than UC4 but is glitchy as you’ll find but it’s to be expected being early adopters.

As for google assistant see the first post.

Me personally, I don't consider this type of item to be in the "early adaptor" category. This type of tech has been a round for a while, its a touchscreen that controls the radio, nav and some vehicle features, nothing ground breaking there. The only thing that sets it apart is that's a bit bigger than usual. And honestly, after the UC4 I would have thought they learned some things and ironed out the kinks. But the fact they they went from UC4 12" to UC5 12" so fast is worrisome.
The E-torque now (specific to the Ram 1500), that I would consider early adaptor and expect some glitches.

My 12” UC5 continues to get worse, now has show 2 different errors. Last weekend displaying something like “uconnect box needs service, contact dealer” and now this morning “battery of uconnect box requires service. SOS call and related functions may be unavailable. Please visit and authorized dealer”

Talked with Ram(Chrysler support) tech support today, they called me back from initial support call. In talking with them about a few issues they mentioned the following.
1. The Ram app has been updated and needs to be deleted then re-downloaded. Not 100% sure why but has to do with connections of some sort.
2. iOS 15.2 is supposed to fix some apple carplay issues like connecting 2 phones at same time while maintaining CarPlay connection on one. Don’t think 15.2 is out yet except under beta.
3. The radio has an update (s21b.6) available or should be available but has to be done by the dealer. I don’t know if it’ll be s21b but the .6 is the version that’s available she said. If you’re not on .5 yet the dealer has to do that update also.
Build Number: FCA-MY22.S21B.5-PROD

This new version is supposed to correct some of the issues we‘re having. Freezing media screens, SiriusXM profiles and fix CarPlay issues in conjunction with the iOS update. There were more listed but I can’t remember them all sorry.
I asked about softkey combination to get into the dealer pages and she said that that’s a bug they’re working on. Even the dealers and higher techs can’t get into these pages right now. 😂😂 yeah that’s funny.

Full-screen CarPlay. That's all I'd need. Would be totally happy to stay on UC4 if I could enable that. Might even pay to upgrade to UC5 for it.
SAME. But for Android auto...don't care about anything else really. Is there a dealership upgrade available?

This is a radio software update. It’s not about which phone you have.

If you’re talking about upgrading to UC5, then no, there will not be a software upgrade from UC4 to UC5. The hardware is not compatible in pre MY22 trucks.

I know it won't be a software update I'm talking about an entire radio replacement upgrade from the dealership to get UC5. I read somewhere on these forums it's doable aftermarket but was hoping the dealership would support a swap.

Upgrade 2019-21 to Uconnect 5

I added the -21 because most likely it’ll be the same for all. The dealers won’t do it until FCA approves it and that’ll be a long time down the road.

Mine is going back to the dealer tomorrow. I’m on version .5 now so hopefully they can update to .6 Made 4 short trips today and the system crashed each time and twice on one. Also a new thing today, the damn radio/screen wouldn’t shut off! I didn’t push any buttons or restart the truck to try and fix it, i wanted to see how long it would stay on for but gave up watching after about 8 minutes so I just left it. After work several hours later it was off.

I’ve had the screen staying on before on the UC4 also, also had this one on the 1st day I got it where the screen never came on when I started it up all the way home from work, but it played music still although I couldn’t change the channel. Hopefully the rep was correct in saying there is a .6 and hopefully it can fix most of your issues. I hate to say it but you could be one of the unlucky ones and have a bad egg 🥚 just like those that had the rotten tomatoes 🍅 with the UC4 radios.

Newest software version is S21C.6-

Hopefully .6 is the ticket! 2 more trips tonight, music/screen just doesn’t turn off anymore…

Dealer checked it out today and determined that the ‘global telematics module’ is faulty and needs to be replaced. Part is not available with no timeline on when it will be. They also said the software is up to date (version .5). I don’t have a lot of confidence at all in them to be honest. I also asked them to enable the mopar power steps in uconnect so I can deploy them from the screen (for cleaning etc) and they said only the factory can do that when the truck is built. Today after work the screen crashed as usual and lost all my settings except for the xm satellite presets. First time that has happened.

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear that, just like a new computer there’s always some bad ones out there.
I‘s say your dealer needs to check his system. 😂

Put it in park tonight after driving home from work and the radio popped up an update available. Left the truck running, locked it up and went inside to change. Went back out maybe 5-10 min later and it was already installing. You can see the new version is 21c.6. Guess I don’t have to go to the dealer now to get it.

I see your climate controls are missing too. 🙄

I was interested as to what this type off error meant and I found this on the Durango forum.

"The code can take up to 40 ignition cycles to clear and this stored fault may show up at a dealership before it has an opportunity to clear."
