Uconnect 5 is much better but…

So I’ve been playing around with my new ‘22 Limited with the 12” Uconnect 5 system. Overall it’s much better but does have a few issues as expected.
1. Noticed you can’t have 2 phones connected IF you are using CarPlay. (Don’t have an android to test that). You can have 2 phones connected without CarPlay. I believe you can still stream from one of the phones. Ram connect support confirms that you’re supposed to be able to have 2 phones connected while using CarPlay(obviously only 1 connected through carplay and 1 through Bluetooth). Supposedly elevated this to a lvl 2 tech and they’re going to call me. We shall see. (Not fixed yet with the 22.S23.13-Prod release)

2. At times the pages will freeze and you can’t scroll between them. Soft reset (holding/pressing the power button for 10-15 seconds) sometimes fixes this and not sure exactly what’s causing it yet. Edit: So tonight on my drive to work I found a possible culprit. Waze (not sure of other nav apps yet) seems to freeze it up when displayed as the image. What I did was select any other CarPlay app to minimize waze app. The screens should then scroll left and right. (Seems to be fixed with latest updates)



3. This is a big one that I spent 30 min+ on the phone with SiriusXM. If you try to sign in to your Sirius account on the radio to have your favorites(not presets) sync across platforms, you HAVE to go into your Sirius account and change your username for that radio(we have 2 radios/packages) to an email address type username. Say you have a username of your favorite pet set - Roscoe. Well that won’t work because the truck setup page for Sirius asks you for an email address, not a username. Once I changed my username to an email address I was able to log in in the truck. Now the email(username) can’t be your account email address but what you can do is add a 1 or other number before the @ sign and it will work. It doesn’t have to be a real email address. Remember it’s just a username but has to look like a real email address with the @ and .com. I guess you could just add @gmail.com or one of the others to the end of your current user name and it would work. I.e . Roscoe@g ma il .com

4. We now can set the number of presets we want to have from 5 to 30. If you have more than 5 you can only scroll through them from lower to higher numbers but it does roll back to 1-5 when you get to the last set. You also can pull up the presets and see 15 per page if you have that many. Not really an issue just listing it here.

5. Under Sirius profiles you can’t add/edit an avatar or name it. Right now it just shows a gray icon with no way to distinguish which profile belongs to who. Pictures below.



6. CarPlay(can’t confirm AA) will not connect at times (will just show connecting) either wireless or wired. Soft reset of the radio should fix it each time. Update: Seems to have been fixed with 21c.6 software update.

7. From another member on another thread: When they get phone calls nothing rings. No sound when they answer it. No one can hear them. They have to shut off carplay and switch to Bluetooth. When they do this they get a terrible echo. (Not sure if this has been fixed or just a one off)

8. Through Ram connect support found that Alexa skills and google assistant are not activated yet on the trucks. Keeps saying internet connection required. Unbelievable they’d require another purchase to use this feature.

9. No Android Auto full screen. Seems to be an AA software limitation not a UC5 limitation. (Anyone with AA able to update this?)

10. Weather and Traffic doesn’t seem to display. Update: Fixed with ver 22.S23.13-Prod. Most members have to do a factory reset under settings and then weather/traffic will function as intended. May also require a soft reset afterwards also. This sucks but I can confirm the reset fixes it after the update.

11. Found; through diesel owners, you can’t have the system display diesel fuel prices. Seems odd developers would overlook this.

I’m adding @RamCares hoping they’ll see these issues on this thread and push them up to the engineers/programmers.

How to get to to version number under settings

I believe this is the version number for our radios. Haven’t figured out if there’s a dealers page like on the 4c’s

For surround view cameras there’s now a left and right mirror view


They added the seat controls on the climate page finally.

You can connect to a home Wi-Fi for OTA’s. Don’t remember this setting on the 4c.

To find your SiriusXM favorites(not presets) you have to go to the SiriusXM profiles/settings page.

At the top of the screen you’ll see a double bar. If you hit that it’ll drop down this screen and I believe you can edit it. Just haven’t messed with it yet.

Full-screen CarPlay. That's all I'd need. Would be totally happy to stay on UC4 if I could enable that. Might even pay to upgrade to UC5 for it.

Thanks for sharing the information and all of the images! Certainly some features that I didn't even know were available with the UC5. I agree with SpeedyV, that full screen CarPlay is sweet. I'm personally a bigger fan of the theme and visual presentation on the UC4 version. Not sure how much of that is adjustable on UC5, if any. It is probably because I am so used to UC4 and somewhat resistant to change haha.

Certainly looks like they overhauled it a bit. Hopefully they support it, push updates and fix whatever bugs it currently has and don't blatantly forget about it like they did with us trashy UC4 people...

Honestly i would upgrade to UC5 in a heartbeat if it would be available, i remmeber reading somewhere its not compatible or something with 2019-2021 models

There’s a couple guys on here that will be attempting it. They’re waiting on the UC5 modules to be available. They’re not sure if just the radio module behind the screen and/or screen plus more will need to be swapped out. let me find the thread.

The unknown part(to me) to the upgrade will be if maps and other radio updates can be installed manually as you’ll lose the ability for OTA updates. One of the members that is going to try this has the 12” system in his 2017 Ram and all he lost was OTA updates and XM Guardian features(stolen vehicle and security stuff) as the radio can’t be tied to the vin of a model year that didn’t have that system type. So that would be another thing lost; the ability to use the Uconnect app(which most wouldn’t care about that want to do this swap).

Wireless and its awesome quick. As soon as I’m in my truck and the radio boots up(just like the uc4 but quicker) CarPlay is connected.

1. I believe there’s a bug that will freeze the main screen pages where you can’t scroll left or right tied to CarPlay/AA. It doesn’t however freeze up the CarPlay screen or stop playing(if streaming) or navigating. Just not sure as I haven’t played with it enough to know for sure if that’s it. A soft reset normally can fix this. See #2 in first post for update.

2. You can’t have 2 phones connected at the same time if using CarPlay (not sure about AA as I don’t have any Samsung phones). I’m not sure if this is a restriction due to software or hardware, or if it’s a bug right now.

Good afternoon. Thanks for starting this thread. I picked up my 2022 rebel a couple weeks ago, I have having an issue with the 12" display goes black with a reddish color, randomly. It is very similar to when you have a warning trigger but in this case its completely random. When it comes back a couple seconds later, it often goes back to the home screen like it did a soft reset. Music or whatever is streaming, persists while it does this. Have not taken it in as it is so new and uconnect 5 is so new too. Any thoughts?

I agree with mhb1638 about taking it in to the dealer. They might be able to download an error code. Definitely keep us updated please.

Haven’t been in the truck today so haven’t seen the update. Most likely it’s bug fixes/tweaks.

Just got off the phone with Ram Connect as I was trying to setup the Alexa skill and on the radio app screen I tried to “activate services” and it kept failing on the radio screen ( they say I’m all good there because I did it through the “Ram” app.) Anyways. They said that Alexa skills are not available/activated yet. Same with google assistant And you won’t even see that on on the radio app screen.

Has anyone else noticed that it takes a longer amount of time to switch between radio stations with UC5 vs UC4?

If anything UC5 seems to be more responsive to 1st touches When switching channels/presets. With UC4 most of the time I’d have to touch the presets 2 or 3 times for it to react. Will pay attention more for the tuning to new station to see if it takes longer.
