Saturday morning when I started my truck the Uconnect acted like it had received an update. It booted up slowly and then eventually displayed the default home screen layout. I.e. it came up with a 3-pane arrangement. Top half had the factory Nav displayed, bottom left showing Music, bottom right showing Phone shortcuts or something.

My normal arrangement is top half is CarPlay (for Maps), and bottom half is Music.

I tried to change it and when it presents the choices for what widget to display in the top half of the screen, CarPlay is not a choice. It shows Music, Nav, Phone - Shortcuts, Phone - Recents, and some other options, but no CarPlay. There IS a CarPlay button down at the very bottom of the screen (when my phone is connected).

CarPlay works. But, even with my phone connected (wirelessly) and CarPlay running full screen to show me Maps, if I go to Home and try to add CarPlay as a widget (to the top or bottom - it doesn't matter), CarPlay is not one of the choices.

So, I can have CarPlay running full screen, but I can no longer have it running in just the top half and have Music (or something else) in the bottom half.

Also, after the Uconnect reset on Sat morning, it went back to displaying the turn-by-turn nav directions in the instrument cluster. More evidence that CarPlay is working fine. I turned that back off. But, still no way to have CarPlay just in the top half of the UC screen.

Anybody else seeing this?

It has been over 48 hours now since my UC booted up after an apparent update.

Okay.... *sigh*.... apparently, somebody slipped a BIG ole dose of Stupid Pills in my drink this week. I am SO dumb sometimes....

I finally realized last night that the problem is not that there is no CarPlay widget. The issue is when you tap Edit Pages and then Create a new Page (or whatever the words are), you don't pick the screen template that is a widget on top and a widget on bottom.

You look just a couple of rows down on the screen and you pick the template that says CarPlay for the top and a widget for the bottom. DUUUUUUHHHHHH....!!!!!!

I am all good now. Got my UC home screen back to what it was before it reset on Saturday morning.

Argh.

How can I get CarPlay to work without having to plug it in (wireless connection) for the 12in screen 2019 Laramie Longhorn

To get CarPlay wirelessly on your ‘19, you need to buy a dongle such as Car2Play or another brand. It works well as I had a 2018 Ram 2500 with the 8.4 screen. The dongle plugs in to the USB and after an easy set up, your iPhone will automatically connect.
I don’t need it for my ‘22 Ram 1500 as it is built in to work already. But I still use the dongle from my ‘18 with my ‘23 Dodge Challenger.
