I know the wifi hotspot is ATT. I signed up for the unlimited since I work from the truck all day.
Good to hear. Sprint coverage was spotty at best. I'd have to find a good signal and sit 20 minutes while my Uconnect updated. Otherwise it would never finish.

Are you notified when an update is available or can you “check for updates”?

Can't say on the new trucks yet. On the prior Gen Uconnect, the radio checks on it's own and prompts to update. You can answer yes or no. If you answer no, you'll get the prompt again within a day or two.

Yeah it would be great if we could also use home WIFI when available like the Sync 3 system.
External WiFi would allow my phone's hotspot to server up Verizon 4g to UConnect. Fast reliable updates. But no, there is no WiFi client in Uconnect that I am aware of.

That’s odd. It would be like your computer turning on by itself to run an update from windows, but that doesn’t happen.

Actually they can. If you have automatic updating on, you can pick a time and it will wake and update.

We used to call it always on, always connected. Most computers these days don’t really turn completely off, they just go to sleep. Before you ask, yes I used to design computers

As do I and in 20 years mine has never turned on by itself, lol! Perhaps if you use “sleep mode” and enable “remote on”, but I’m just tin-foil hat paranoid enough that I always completely shut down my pc when not in use. Yeah, I’m a tech geek, lol! I won’t for a second claim to be all knowing, and I’d like to think I’m always learning new things. That said, I don’t dis-believe yours updates all by itself, just saying mine never has. I'm sure the trucks update by themselves, as they can be remotely started with the app. Just seems risky since, as others have stated, if the update hangs your battery can get drained over time.

This actually happened to me this morning. I have a 2019 Limited and everything was ok yesterday. I parked the truck in the garage around 1 pm and when I got in this morning nothing. The battery was sitting at around 8 volts. Jumped it off and everything eventually worked fine. Its at the dealer now getting the battery checked. I am sure they everything will check out ok but it would be nice to know what drained the battery.

I'm currently stuck on at my friends house right now - the truck started fine this morning, went to my friends for about 3 hours and now have to find a booster pack that will be strong enough to jump start it. Fun, fun, fun... Something definitely drained the battery.

Well, after getting it boosted the other day, the battery recharged and they couldn't find anything. Yesterday it happened again, so I got it towed.

They replaced the battery yesterday, and it worked fine on my short trip last night.

Tried starting it this morning and the battery is completely dead again.

Just called the towing again - hopefully they'll figure it out.

Ouch that sucks! Luckily I haven't had an issue since.

Just throwing it out there as you both have Limited’s. I had a Limited as well and the dead battery was one of the finals straws to prompt me to get rid of that particular truck. I saw on another thread that someone also was having battery issues and determined that if they put the truck in Jack Mode I believe they didn’t have a problem. They thought it was the pump on the Air Suspension draining the battery. I can confirm that I would often hear my Air Suspension kick in for no apparent reason and the time lapse videos from my Nest Camera in my driveway confirmed that the truck would sometimes raise up and down in the middle of the night.

I honestly have no idea if that was indeed the problem and I purchased a new 1500 without Air Ride but just throwing it out there for you to consider.

Sounds like something similar that I had with my 2014 Outdoorsman. Was traced to the wiring harness on the firewall. The windshield drains got plugged and water would overflow and drain onto the wiring harness and corroded some of the terminals. They had it for a couple of days while they extended(rewired) the harness. Have never had it happen since they did it.

Maybe get them to check that area.

Well, add mine to the list. :cautious:We've had a few odd behaviors from the U-connect system, like sometimes not displaying the time. And, then, on the morning after the "big snow" in Seattle, I awoke to a dead battery. Dead! Didn't leave the lights on. After finding a friendly van to help jump the truck, the check engine light was on for a while, then went off. No other apparent problems.

I sure hope that this isn't the start of a recurrent problem.

Sounds like you got one of the bad batteries from the factory.

I'd like to add what I found on this issue on my Bighorn with the 8.4" uconnect

I parked my truck on Tuesday night, used my company car for work on Wednesday and Thursday and Thursday evening went start my truck and dead. No lights, no remote unlock, nothing! I checked my security cameras to see if I left lights on or if anyone messed with the truck. Since I back my truck in the drive you can see through the back window to the dash when it's dark. After I parked the truck you can see the lights flash showing that I locked it, 10 seconds later, lights go off, about 30 seconds later the dash lights go off. About 20 minutes later, I can't remember if I locked the doors or not so I hit the lock button from inside the house. In my security camera you can see the lights flash and instrument cluster lights up but never goes off. When I leave for work Wednesday morning you can see the instrument cluster still on. When I get home that night after dark no more instrument cluster lighting up.
After getting my battery charged back up I decided to try a few things. If you lock the doors with the remote when they are already locked, the instrument lights up and stays on. If you unlock the door, open the door, close the door then lock them with the remote, sometimes the instrument shuts off after 30 seconds and sometimes it stays on. If you unlock the door, start the truck, then turn it off get out and lock the doors, the instrument cluster always turns off after 30 seconds.

Seems to be a weird glitch in the software but I'm keeping an eye on it and will be letting the dealer know when I take it in for the power steering ground recall.

So I've had my 2019 limited for a little over a month now with just over 2k miles. This morning I tried to remote start it and all it did was give me one horn honk. Turns out the truck was dead. So I had to jump start it and the check engine light stayed on while I drove around. The check engine light turned off after I let the truck sit for about 30 minutes. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm concerned because the battery died for no apparent reason.
My 2019, RAM Limited has 2300 miles is at the dealership service department with the same issue. It’s been there for 2 days. So far they think it’s caused by an electrical glitch in the ABS. I hope this isn’t the first of many problems to come. One thing I can say positive regarding the service department is that they gave me a 2019, RAM loaner until they complete the work on mine.
