Transmission abruptly stops and disengages

This is the second time in the last 2 months the truck abruptly disengaged the transmission. Needless to say a trip to the dealer is coming. In the interim, if anyone has any insights into the problem, I appreciate a note.

It's a 2019 Bighorn - 5.7 Hemi (no e-torque) with about 3.5K miles. The transmission just disengages with a little jerking motion and I have to park it and return it to drive to engage once again. Pretty concerning that without any warning it would do this. The first time (Dec 12th) it occurred while crossing a busy intersection and luckily it didn't involve an accident (but I did create a scene briefly). I called the dealer and spoke with the service advisor that day who said to wait till the 1st service interval to check it since it's probably a one time bug/issue.

Yesterday's it happened just around the corner. On both instances i'm accelerating from a stop and didn't get beyond 20 mph before the flashing started and the car just went into neutral until I followed the process above.

I recorded a video during the second incident to show it to the dealer. Basically the 'D' light on the shifter blinks and i get the message on the picture below (shift to P and then the desired gear).

I like this truck, but i'm starting to worry that this but could lead to an incident. I appreciate any guidance and will report back once the dealer tells me something.

Looks like something is triggering the AutoPark feature for some reason. Here's how it works (from the manual):

"If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver exits the
vehicle with the engine running, the vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions are met:

• Vehicle is equipped with a rotary shifter and an 8-speed
transmission
• Vehicle is not in PARK
• Vehicle speed is 1.2 MPH (1.9 km/h) or less
• Driver’s seat belt is unbuckled
• Driver’s door is ajar
• Brake Pedal is not depressed

The MESSAGE “ AutoPark Engaged Shift to P then Shift
to Gear” will display in the instrument cluster."

That could be it. Although i'm always buckled and it has happened after driving the car for a few minutes. I'll share with the tech in case it's related to this feature.

Yep. Maybe some faulty sensor makes the truck "think" you're not behind the wheel or something like that.

Update - after two instances of this, the dealer's response was that it was an anomaly and at this time there is nothing recorded on the vehicle to help them troubleshoot it.

To bring the car in the future if it happens again the same day without turning it off. I passed on the video I took during the last instance and they were going to forward to FCA/Specialist to see if they can get any more information on this problem.. They did check to ensure all updates were current on the vehicle.

I enjoy the truck and will follow the dealer's advice. I've documented everything and hopefully it won't happen again. If it does, then I'll have to take additional measures since this could potentially cause an incident. It almost did the first time and I made it clear to the dealer that it was not a good situation to be in.

Was anyone ever able to solve this? My truck is doing the same thing and I've almost been rear-ended about 5 times. My truck is in the dealership for the 3rd time right now trying to fix it, but they have no idea what it is. They say they drive it to try and repeat it but they never can, and without fail it happens to me on my way home from the dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That sounds like a bs answer. I hate it when the dealers blow people off and dont take a significant problem seriously. Really....an anomaly? I guess if you get rear ended by someone when the truck disengages as you pull onto a busy street that will be an anomaly too. I would take it back and tell them to keep it and give me a rental until its fixed!
