I look forward to hearing how it goes. I ordered my Right On brackets this morning to replace the factory brackets and to see how they fit. If the X4 can be installed with the Right On brackets then I will be ordering my X4 as soon as we return from our trip.
right on brackets?

In the process of getting the gator recoil to work with the right on brackets. It will not fit with the original bolt heads sticking out , so I am going to chamfer the holes and run a socket head flat Allen cap bolt on the bracket. I will post back tomorrow.

this will be the most affordable retractable option for us at 849. Seems like a great value compared to the retrax, but who knows...could suck!

That's what I had to do. I still needed to force it between the brackets but in retrospect, if you countersync and use flatheads for the two screws on each side that attach the rails to the plastic canister ends, I think it will fit without needing a mallet. I also had to take a little off the end of the rear cross piece to get it installed, but it's installed and works fine.

Mine is 2015 vintage. One MX

Thanks good to know I’m on the right track. I test fitted it yesterday, and it fit well without any bolts in the sides (I left the cab side bolts in) and I slid the gator cover in between no issues. So I’m assuming if I can get the bolts flush I should be A ok.

the gator trax is the same as the one MX right? I’ll be installing the cheaper gator recoil.

My idea worked perfectly. This should also help the guys with the rails not have to take chunks out of the rails to get them to fit. Thread size is
M8x1.25 x 80mm you won’t be able to find them in store (even fastenal and grainger did not have them.

Most any will fit with the MFT and ramboxes, the silver rails may have to come out/off since most flush mount covers use a clamp style.

A few photos of the installed gator recoil with the right on brackets . Install wasn’t too bad. Lining these things up always sucks a bit.

Any pictures of it all opened up? Anything funky needed for the install outside of brackets and patience on lining things up?

I'll snap some photos in a bit here. One thing i would recommend is that if you have the track rail system, is to reverse it so the openings for the tie downs are at the tailgate. Not sure why mopar did that crap but if you install a canister style cover it will prevent you from getting the tie downs out!! It does require some drilling of new holes (they are asymmetrical, but thats pretty easy).

Thank you. How much room did you lose up front? That looks great honestly.
About a foot.

maybe 11-12 inches? I was not too concerned as I usually just need to fit 4-8 tires. My biggest comcern was with the depth of the canister. I have a pop up tent I needed to fit under it, which it fits fine. You lose about 10” worth of depth. I would order on amazon, if you don’t like it...send the sucker back! Lol

Does anyone know what torque setting you need to apply to attach the Right On brackets? Or just tighten until tight?

You could look up the torque for the bolt size but I'll guess that because the original brackets are composite that the threads in the box are possibly not designed for seriously high torque.
IIWM, I'd add a little blue locktite to the bolts and just tighten them to a comfortable level. It's better to start low and work up in this case.
