Hi Folks, greetings from Chile.
Add me to the list. 4 weeks ago, I got my brand new 1500 Laramie Sport 2021, HEMI 5.7.
It´s 800 miles and from day 1: same clanking issues. I did a LOT of research and so far here´s what i have:
- Mostly, there are three different annoying sounds on the RAM´s.
a) The classic and truly hated HEMI "tick". This is not generally mentioned for brand new RAM´s but with a very high level of confidence, this issue will arise once you hit something around 30K or so. According the research, this is a HEMI design issue, totally degenerative, related with the lifters / camshaft., due to poor lubrication. Fingers crossed to see this solved in the last generations of Hemi engines...
b) Some secuencial ticks or clanks right after the start up process. This is usually with a fixed pattern so probably, there is nothing to be worried about as these unpleasant ticking noises are related to actuators or relays in a on-off-on self checking sequence. I have this sounds in my truck all the time. Pretty normal
c) The random clank on start-up which is a single and noisy hit. Very concerning for a high value truck. So far, this clank seems to be random, 30-40% of the times and seems to be related to the brake / parking interaction. Unfortunately, my truck it´s not the exception and i have this strong "clank" in a 3/10 starts rate. After reading some threads, i tested making the start up only using remote.... surprise, no more clank. Not a single one in more than 30 starts. However, if i use the brake again, the clank is back in the same proportion. No answer from two different dealers. They have just said, It´s normal.... we cannot replicate the sound.... It´s important to mention that by not using remote start but activating the auto parking brake system, the proportion of "clanks" comes down. Still a mystery.
Regards!
