Since I bought my truck back in March 2020 I have been tracking the real-world MPG. I know this has been talked about before but I wanted to throw out my 2 cents Fwiw, Some comments below:
  • When I bought the truck I was hoping to average 18 mpg.
    • Currently Averaging 15.90 mpg after 5750 miles, I believe I am past engine break-in period, just need to get a first Oil change done
    • This was considering the gearing and additional weight for my truck
  • I opted the extra $$ for the E-Torque (yes I know it's unproven, but as an engineer, it had my attention and curiosity)
    • As people have stated on this forum before there is the belief the E-Torque actually decreases Mpg, I am beginning to think this may be true as potentially the Electric motor is not disengaging as it should, requiring the Hemi to work harder leading to less mpg
    • The Auto start/stop isn't that bad honestly
  • "Don't expect to get good mpg in that big truck, you idiot!"
    • I drive like a grandpa, never accelerate fast and if I can use cruise control I will
      • I have read the Hemi gets better Mpg when you accelerate hard so I have been considering giving it a try.
    • I would hope to be somewhat close to the sticker...
    • My father averages better than the sticker on his F150 (16',23.4mpg, 2.7EB, 2wd,45k miles)
  • I understand Mpg will vary truck to truck spec to spec and most sticker mpg rating systems are flawed
    • If this is true then give me a more realistic estimate of what I will achieve, just be honest up front.
  • "Bro! I average 23mpg in my rebel lifted blah blah blah"
    • Track the numbers as I have and prove it to me.
  • The game of premium fuel, technically the engine is optimized for 89 but can run 87
    • I am still testing out different fuels to see if the price difference is worth the extra mpg.
Overall I love my truck, I just wish Ram was more upfront about the Mpg values because at the end of the day we all pay at the pump.
  • Some key things about my truck

I generally see 19 to 20 mpg with mostly highway and a bit of city mixed in. Just came back from a 3 hour "all highway" run, and hit 9.4 l/100 km = 25 mpg. (computer calculated, but still)

Biggest differences in our truck; yours is friggin heavy lol. Look at your payload, 1172, mine is 1750, so your truck is constantly carrying an additional 600 pounds everywhere you go. ORG, etorque, and 3.92 are biggest offendors, mostly they add weight and of course the 3.92 makes you rev a couple hundred rpm higher for hours on end (on a highway run like mine).

I shared this yesterday on a thread about eTorque, but it gives some "real-world" perspective on fuel economy (for V8-equipped trucks only).

There are currently 90 2020 Ram 1500s with HEMI engines being tracked on Fuelly. Of those, 46 have eTorque, and they are averaging 16.2 mpg. The remaining 44 do not have eTorque and are averaging 14.5 mpg. This tells us that (1) 2020 Ram 1500s with HEMI engines are averaging 15.4 mpg across the board, and those with eTorque are averaging 12% better fuel economy.

You can see my lifetime average fuel economy in my signature (with a little over 12K miles on my truck). But it's a heavy one (1,069 lb payload), and I'm either in stop-and-go traffic or running above 70 mph on the highway...so I guess my truck is performing as expected. My old GMC with a 6.0L V8 and 4.10 gears averaged around 11 mpg under the same conditions despite weighing at least 200 lb less and making less power.

Wow! You have the Worst setup for gas mileage. Crew cab with full size bed, 4WD, 3.92 gears AND off road package. Without the Etorque you'd probably get more like 14 mpg on highway.

EXACTLY what is your setup then? A regular cab 4x2 with a V6 and a 3.21 gear ratio?????????????????????

Mine is one of the ones on Fuelly with eTorque, and my average (90% city driving) is 11.4 MPG.

Hehe. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD Etorque with the 3.21 ratio. But I'd gladly give it up for a Rebel or TRX :giggle:

I’ve been getting about 13.5 mpg on 89 octane and about 14.2 when I use 92 octane. Habits are split evenly between county / backroads at 45-65mph and highway speeds between 70 and a bit higher. Several bits higher.

Hard to believe these 13-14 mpg numbers. Mine isn't the best, but my truck has settled about 18.8 since I've had it.
1/2 highway 1/2 county roads @ 55mph.

I disagree, I think that some trucks just simply get better mileage than others. I have damn near the same truck he does except no Etorque and I even installed heavier taller tires than stock and I get quite a bit better fuel mileage than he does. I towed a 5000 lb travel trailer 200 miles over several mountain passes higher than 10,000 ft and averaged 12 mpg. I can get 18 on the highway everyday of the week if I keep it around 70 Mph. I also am actually getting better than the lie o meter reads because of the taller tires but haven’t even calculated the difference my speedo is off.

Because you’re running at 55mph Once over 70 the fuel economy gets decimated.

20 Laramie, 5.7 no e torque, 4x4, 3.21 rear, 5,7 bed, crew cab.

I took delivery back in February and was honestly expecting around 15 mpg. I have been pleasantly surprised with what I am getting.

That would mean that there's something wrong with the truck if some of the trucks with exact same setup are getting better than others. Although elevation, etc can play a part in it. But if all of that is equal both trucks should be getting very close to if not the same gas mileage. Your statement was used for vehicles 20 years ago...at that point it was acceptable. Not in the year 2020

I wish that were true but each individual truck has its own components, and no two trucks perform identically. My buddy traded in a 2019 Limited ORG with 3.92 full length box and no etorque and his mileage was really bad, he struggled to get 16 on the highway. The first highway trip in my new truck (similar to his) I did 180 miles and screen shot the lieometer and sent him a text of the pic and I got like 18.9 mpg he just replied I never got that kind of mileage. Thinking that just because two trucks are similarly equipped they will perform exactly the same is a pipe dream, I’ve always believed you either get a good one or an ok or bad one, it is what it is.

I think this will have to be a circumstance where we have to agree to disagree respectfully. Each component is identical to the next one as they're made on an assembly line by machine. This isn't 20/30 years ago where components are made slightly different by each facility worker. But I do understand what you're saying though and your point does have some merit.

Because you’re running at 55mph Once over 70 the fuel economy gets decimated.

This is exactly the answer. 40 mile round trip to drop my kids off at daycare where most of my driving is 50-55 mph I see 18-19 in my Rebel. Interstate doing 75 on cruise control I see 16.5. Admittedly, this thing LOVES mountains. MDS going downhill pulls my mileage up to roughly 19 even doing 65+ going uphill.

I keep track of mine on a spreadsheet. The last fill I had 12661 miles with an overall combined highway/city (but guessing 60/40 Highway/city) my average is 19.51

I have 2 19's - both crew cab 3.21, 5.7, 4X4 and they are damn near identical
summer:
17 - 50/50 city highway
20.5 - 100% highway @ 75 mph (no wind)

winter
16.5 - 50/50 city highway
18 - 100% highway @ 75 mph (no wind)

I'd bet for those of you with 65 mph speed limits you could get north of 23 in the summer
